I have a large collection of movies and shows ripped to Divx avi files that I try to watch through the GBPVR front end. Ever since switching to the .91x versions I have had a huge problem. I can watch up to 4 of these movie files before GBPVR locks up. On the fifth one GBPVR locks up with a black screen forcing me to reboot to get through it. After the reboot I restart GBPVR but it continues to maintain the lock up and black screen when I try to play another avi file. The only thing that seems to break this problem is if I uninstall gbpvr and reinstall it. Then the cycle begins again.

I can try and provide the logs but I am hoping I'm not the only one with this problem and I hope there is already a workaround.

The system it's running on is an XP1800 with 1 gig of memory and a 120gb drive with a cd-rom running Windows XP SP1 and .Net 1.1 along with GBPVR .9109 on a wired network.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

UPDATE: It seems that it is not a factor of how many avi fiels I watch but the overall time. Just got done watching an hour and a half long movie and now it's locked up again. Please tell me we can figure this one out guys because it's beyond aggravating now.

Its the first I've heard of the problem. I'll put it on the list of things to investigate.

Do you have FFDShow installed?

I installed the codec pack, Defiler Pack, in order to take care of some codec problems and I think it installed FFDshow as well though I will check when I get home. I have found that smply stopping the service and reinstalling (doing the repair mode) GBPVR over the top of itself will clear whatever the issue is with playing avi files. It seems to have a cutoff somewhere around 1-1.5 hours worth of video feed before it will do it's lockup with the black screen and 99% CPU utilization. Rebooting still does nothing for it and I amstill using gbpvr .9109. Thanks again for any help you can give me sub.

For me this sounds like a heating problem. Can you try to do some really CPU heavy stuff (not movies) for some hours to see if the computer hangs?

It's not a hardware issue. I've attempted a shutdown and left the system down for several hours only to turn it back on and it continue to not work. This isn't hardware this is a software glitch that I am attempting to track down. I'm going to have to try a fresh uninstall includign the deletion of all folders and files and then reboot for a clean install next and see if that does anything though the last time it didn't.

Good idea. However dont install codec packs. They are bad news. Just install what you need. Less is more IMHO. Also try and stay away from FFDShow. Again IMHO.
You could try this:
Install your windows, remove what is not needed and patch it up. Install .net and gbpvr and just try it. Install what it needs.

I've never found a decent all-in-one codec pack to be a problem. Only when trying to do separate installs have I seen issues with my system. Thats the reason I love and use Defiler pack. I'll try pulling out FFDshow and see if that makes any difference. Thanks for all of the help guys.

Ever find the problem. I have a similar issue, except I never installed a codec pack.
