4.2.2 STOP command wont work

when on live tv pushing the square box (stop) causes the npvr to go to a black screen and hang. if left about ten plus seconds it appears to return to live tv. escape does the same thing from what I have tried. tried right click and STOP menu item. no dice. No way to get off live tv so far except for ctrl alt delete and then end the app. On the plus side it does appear to be recording the currently scheduled program.

I tried to downgrade and overwrite 4.2.2 with 4.2.1 but that did not work. I still seem to have 4.2.2

any suggestions appreciated.

There is no changes in 4.2.2 that would account for any change of behavior around this.

If you press Ctrl-S on the keyboard, does it stop?

ctrl S does the same thing as stop. screen goes black/no sound and after 10-15 seconds it may or may not revert to LIVE TV. Hitting enter or another mouse click at this point may also cause a revert to live tv. EXIT from the menu on the right click takes you back to windows desktop.

I know you said no changes were made that might be causing this but if I may - there has always been an odd challenge with the STOP feature in previous releases. Sometimes it took 1 click on stop icon to get to main menu, other days it would take two clicks on stop icon. If it did not go after one click hitting enter took you back to live tv and then you would do 2 clicks on stop icon to get back. Neither approach works since updating to 4.2.2

Is the stop icon supposed to be clicked one time or twice according to the design spec? Its the only odd control of all that appear on the popup ribbon at the bottom in previous releases. The other icons seem to do their stuff after one click.

How does one downgradeif I don't come up with any good ideas? the overwrite did not work with 4.2.1

While I was doing some more investigating I got this unhandled error while clicking on the controls on the pop up ribbon like channel up/down pause etc... not sure if its relevant but thought I would pass it on.

another odd thing is the stop button actually worked for about 15 minutes today and then it went back to the usual of going to a black screen/no sound.

Have you got the LAV decoders on your machine? If you temporarily switch to these, does it stop cleanly?

Not using them to my knowledge. As you asked I looked up SAF in npvr forum and it led me to http://hobring.esero.net/saf/binary/

Following the instructions there I first downloaded and installed SAF Key.

Then I downloaded and installed SAF6.3.2 which is shown as the latest version on that page.

I admit I am puzzled as to why it downloads and installs Directx9 and Microsoft software from 2003 to 2010 on a windows 10 machine... but I set up my system recovery before I did this so I could wipe this out if I cant learn what the benefit is of putting 15 year old software on a clean W10 machine?

The MPC HC install box was not selected in the auto install so it did not install. I already have the current version 13 on my computer so maybe that is why as the SAF package only has the outdated v 10?

After it was finished I reboot the machine and ran npvr. Then I went to Live TV and watched a few minutes of TV. The STOP button worked fine every attempt I made. I went to settings screen on npvr and noted that only the Audio decoder had been changed by the SAF setup. screen shot attached. I also had the npvr files zipped and am attaching them too.

I have not made any further changes because I thought you should have a look at the log files first. How could not changing the video decoder fix this? Another issue that puzzles me is that this post https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...post414049 says the LAV settings will be changed automatically but only 1 of mine was. Should I be resetting them myself?

Also the STOP button seems to be working on 1 click every time I have tried it since installing this stuff. I think I should monitor it over the weekend and see if the problem comes back.. as it has every single time in the past. What is it the SAF stuff could have done to NPVR that would make the stop button work better?

Actually I said "LAV". I don't know anything about "SAF" - I've never used it, and don't know what it installs. I've never recommended SAF to anyone.

LAV is just a small set of standalone decoders. They popular, up to date decoders. They can be downloaded from:

Good to hear to stop button was working though. When it comes to click on video, the mouse click event is routed to the application via the video renderer, which means video decoder/renderer combination can have an effect on whether the application sees the click event.

That said maybe I will let this run a few days then do a system recovery to wipe them out as you don't recommend the aoproach of saf6 for LAVand go with your link. No need to make new problems for you.

Oh, I've heard of SAF - I just don't know the details of all the shit it installs, so I wouldn't have recommended it myself. (it might be fine, just never used it myself, and don't know much about it).

Personally I'd just get LAV directly from it's official download location:

...that way you're just getting the decoders. (it's also a newer version of the decoders, going by that screenshot above)
