Are there any commercial grade or lossless codecs available for the NPVR video decoder? What are the absolute best ones out there? Willing to pay for a good one.
The LAV decoder is not giving me the results I want and the MS DVD one doesn't work.

Using H.264 and eventually H.265

Thanks

NextPVR only uses the decoders specified in Settings when playing recordings made with NextPVR. It uses the Windows Media Player default decoders when playing files through the Videos menu item.

Is it recordings that you are playing?

The Ms decoder works for me.

Yes it is for recordings. Then I send them to MCEBuddy which randomly fails on the MS decoded file.

The stream received by NextPVR and recorded by NextPVR is a digital stream. NextPVR copies that stream unaltered into a recording file. Decoders decode the data in the recording file to a moving picture on screen. The decoder has no part in the MCEBuddy process. It is not a decoder issue if MCEBuddy is failing.

Yep, absolutely correct. It sounds like MCEBuddy just doesn't like the content that the broadcasters are sending.

So you are saying that the decoder does not create the 'ts' file. My assumption was the decoder takes the stream and decodes it into a ts file.
Then why do I get different results converting the TS file to MP4 depending on which video decoder I select in NPVR?

The ts file is always just a unmodified dump of whatever the broadcaster is sending. There is no decoder or encoders used during this process. "transport stream" is what the broadcaster is sending. The .ts file is just a copy of it.

That wont be the case. The video decoder is only used when you're watching live tv or a recording in NextPVR's own player. When watch content in NextPVR, it takes the ts stream, and decodes it into audio and video streams, then uses the audio/video renderers to show the pictures on the screen, or play the audio.

Recording (and the capture side of live tv) is always just a dump of whatever the broadcaster is sending. You may find you get slightly different behaviour from different channels, since different broadcasters can be doing slightly different things in their streams (like different resolutions or bitrates, or stuff like using different MPEG encoding options etc). You may also have slightly better reception of some channels.

Thanks for clearing that up. Since I do not watch any streams in NPVR then I can just disable all the decoders.
I guess I was experiencing random problems with the stream.

I disabled all the decoders and everything works normally. Guess I should have tried that and realized the decoder has no effect on the ts file.
