Not waking up with prior state.

I have enabled hibernation through my control panel, and I have enough disk space. However when I resume from hibernation, or when GBPVR tries to wake it up, i get the following DOS screen prompt:

"The last attempt to restart the system from its previous location failed. Attempt to restart again?"

I am presented with 2 options:
-> Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu
-> Continue with system restart

I tried the continue option but the same screen comes up again. The system boot menu just restarts the machine.

Anyone have any ideas?

On a related issue, standby will work, but I dont know how to resume without the keyboard hotkey (set in BIOS). Mouse intreaction doesn't work, and neither does the power button. Any clues on that one?

[edit] - also the sleeper program says hibernate is supported. my equipment is listed below.

For me, hibernation works most of the time, but I do get the same error you do once in a while. I'm interested in learning what causes it too. Can't really help you much here, although perhaps disabling hibernation, defragmenting your hard drive, then re-enabling hibernation (to make sure the hibernation file is contiguous) may help?

for the record, i fixed my hibernate issues. my disk drive was in the Secondary IDE channel, as a Slave. This was because the cabling was simpler that way, and it booted OK. Putting it on the Primary IDE channel and finding a jumper to make it Master did the trick! Damn! ;-)

Good for you. Now, just for the heck of it, my computer has started refusing going into hibernate. It does sometimes, other times not, and I can't figure out why :-) Oh, well, I can still force it into hibernate at night so I can get some sleep ;-)

Stefan

What does your BIOS say its watching, in the Power Management section? try ignoring disk activity, etc. in turn.

Also, are you using Windows to hibernate after a certain time? Check your process listing to see whats causing activity. You may well have picked up a trojan/virus. Do a scan with the usual stuff, adaware/spybot/fave virus scanner.

good luck dude.
