I heard that there was someway to get GB-PVR to playback avi files by decoding them on the fly with a codec or plugin anyone have the name of this?

I have the PVR-350 connected to my TV.
Also music playback does not play on the tv but rather on my computers sound...any idea how i can get the music to play on my tv sound.

I too am wanting the AVI on the FLY solution. But here is what I did to get music out of the PVR-350 (and also would be needed for the XVID) audio too when we get it working. SO...

...on that "dongle" that came with the PVR-350, there are RCA Jacks (1 left, 1 right). I got an adpater that connects to those RCAs and then converts to a headphone jack which goes to the LINE IN of the sound card (Make sure LINE IN is turned up and not muted in the volume control panel). Then for output I am coming out of the sound card (like where the speakers would normally be) with an adapter that goes from headphone jack to rca (Left and right) output (which is fed into my tv).

Does any of that make sense? Maybe I am doing things the hard way, but it does seem to take a lot of cabling to get this all working properly!!

Isn't contro trying to get music from his sound card (rather than from the 350) to the tv?

I think that if you use this solution for video, the audio will be slightly out of sync with the video due to the exta A/D/A processing required. I'm pretty sure that i tried this.

Sub is no longer actively developing for the PVR-350. I think that lack of avi support (not gbpvrs fault) is a bit of a showstopper for the mpeg output on this card.

I just use the svideo output from an ATI 9600pro instead. Still looks good to me.

....ok, so NOT going through GB-PVR, What if there was a media player (that would play AVI/XVID/DIVX/etc) and it could push the content out of the PVR-350 to the TV?

I would not mind exiting the GB-PVR, starting another application and viewing the AVI's that way. I have TightVNC setup on the PVR box so I can control it from my laptop (all wirelessly).

As far as audio synchronization - not sure yet, have only had the box setup for a few days. The test recordings I made looked ok, but true "field testing" is required.

Thanks in advance for the input!!

i just got one for the onboard decoder since my system specs arent that great, wanted to take a load of the processor. and it adds another tuner. also wanted to use the hauppauge remote with the built in support for it thru gb-pvr.

and for sound - i have a pvr 500 right now. all i have is an adapter like cabel has ( left and right rca to headphone jack adapter) OUT from the sound card and rca to my tv. when i get my 350 in (soon hopefully, sloooow shipping) i wasnt planning to run any cables for sound from it, thought it would just use the sound card like the 500 does...

I thought all the hauppauge tuners could use the system sound card for sound output. Not so for the 350?

So you have two Hauppauge cards (or some variation of TV OUT cards?) So one is used to record and one is used for playback? Seems like it should not have to be this complicated. I record some things from regular cable-TV and other AVI files I want to play our primarily IPTV type stuff. Man I am bummed. Anyone out there know about this "AVI on the fly" theory? or another work around to output those avi's to my PVR-350?? I am open to pretty much all options. Thanks Again.

no, the 350 has dedicated output for Audio I guess (output on an RCA "dongle"), which then has to be looped back through the sound card as described in my prev. posts.

yea know i can loop back but i guess i have to use the loop, huh?

i run a pvr 500 right now (dual tuner card) and svideo out from my video card, and sound out from the sound card. I thought (still think, i dunno - will let ya know when i get it) I could do it with the 350. so in the end i will have 3 tuners... so i could record 2 shows and watch one at the same time or record 3 shows at the same time...

Remote: Use the fix "n" button remote in gbpvr config and restart the ir.exe supplied with the card (or updated version downloaded from web). Don;t bother with the native support option in gb-pvr. leave this de-selected.

The 350 will definately take a big load from the cpu when decoding mpeg files (BUT does not work with avi/divx.xvid). To use the onboard mpreg decoder (which is what seperates the 350 from the other cards and adds the $$) in gbpvr, you need to select hardware decoding. Now, I think (but i cannot remember clearly and so I am not 100% sure about this) that this means that the audio will also be output via the 350 only and not via your sound card. Therefore you would need to use the audio output connectors supplied with the card but this means that (any) music output (which goes via the soundcard) will require a seperate input into your amp / speakers.

Looping the 350 into and out from your soundcard will put the audio out of sync with the video.

The 350 is a great analogue card and it's hardware decoded output is supposedly way better than most outputs that you generally get from a pc. BUT (to re-iterate) this will only work for your exisiting mpeg recordings.

[edit]If you configure the 350 for software decoding, the audio exits via the soundard like with other cards and the video exits via the svideo on your grapics card (or via VGA if you have been clever and made a VGA to SCART cable)
