I've just bought a MVP and recently installed GB-PVR. On my Windows XP Pro PC I can view DVDs using GB-PVR, but I do not get the DVD option when I use GB-PVR MediaMVP Server and view it on the TV. Is it possible to view DVD "on the fly" using the MVP? Thanks.

In theory it would be possible to implement something like you describe, but in practice I dont have the sort of hours that would be required to implement this. This single feature would be a large project by itself. It would also be illegal for me to implement without paying a large licensing fee.

The only option for playing a DVD on the MVP, is by ripping it to the hard drive and converting the audio into MPEG Layer II audio. This will allow you to view the movie, but will obviously wont give you the menus or extras.

From the FAQ:

How can I view a DVD on my MVP or PVR350?
These two devices really need a standard MPEG2 file, with two channel MPEG Layer II audio for playback. The biggest problem with DVDs is the audio tends to be 5.1 AC3 sound. Below is a set of steps you can use to rip your DVDs to the hard drive, and to convert to an appropriate audio track.
[b Wrote:Quote[/b] ]Step 1: I rip the DVD's with SmartRipper to my hard drive. I set SmartRipper to rip the movie to one big file.

Step 2: I then import that file into Womble MPEG Video Wizard and select Export. I only change the AC-3 audio to MPEG Layer II and hit Start. Only the audio is re-encoded.

The entire process is very fast and the resulting file is of excellent quality and plays just fine through the hardware decoder of the PVR-350

If a DVD has no copy protection I wont even use SmartRipper. I import into Womble direct from the DVD and proceed with Step 2.

Thanks for answering my question. I bet its time consuming to program such a feature. Would it be possible to stream the DVD using a program such as VLC Media Player (http://www.videolan.org) and stream it to GB-PVR?
