I have had a problem ever since I put my system together (See Signature) whereby Recordings are PERFECT. And Playback is Normally also Perfect, except often when I skip forward or back playback becomes jerky. Almost as if its skipping everyother track (except the overall speed is right), if I pause and then hit play again it usually comes right, sometimes I have to pause and play 2 or 3 times tho. I've been living with it as everything else is perfect but its becomming a little fustrating.

I have tried Cyberlink and Intervideo Codecs and they both do it - it happens with my TV out and my VGA out to projector. It doesn't happen playing back with WinDVD etc (although I haven't tried often).

I'm still using version 09211.

Any help GREATLY appreciated.

Which version of directx are you running? If its v9.0c, have you applied the quartz.dll from v9.0b as recommended?

I haven't - would that cause it intermittantly like this? Likewise playback is flawless elsewhere?

Is it still worth a crack you think?

Yes, it is worth a crack. This is similiar to the bug which people have described in the original v9.0c file.

I updated my dx to 9.0c, and checked quartz.dll in the /system folder.. its version 6.5.1.902. Is this not the 9.0b version ?? There was a file posted here (or somewhere ?) that I downloaded, apparently the 9.0b version, that has the same version info.

Did I mess something up, or did I swap this file while I was sleeping ? (lol)

What is the correct ver of the 9.0b quartz.dll ?

Well it appears thats fixed it - I've only had a quick play with one recording doing LOTS of skipping back and forth but prior to that I replaced it in REAL mode (non-safe mode) rebooted and tested it and it still was jitterey after only one or two skips but I then discovered windows had in its infinite wisdom put the original back. After doing it in safemode it has stuck and seems to have fixed the problem. The versions are:

quartz.dll from 9.0b - 6.5.1.902
quarts.dll from 9.0c - 6.5.2600.2180

Just so I don't throw in a red herring somewhere I'll make it clear I assume the quartz.dll is from 9.0b - I didn't personally get it from a 9.0b system, I got it from a forum where someone had posted it claiming its from 9.0b but the version number above is what it reports and it appears to have fixed the problem. I will repost after I watch the All Black / South Africa test and I'll then know for sure if its 100% fixed.

P.S - I haven't said this enough recently but SUB you are the man. This product is TOO GOOD - I'm seriously considering living one day behind now and watching Mondays TV on a Tuesday and so on as its soooo nice being able to skip the adds etc. XP Media centre is very polished looking but its too feature rich and clumsy to get from A) to B) in my opinion and also in NZ too fiddly to get a good media guide into. I find XMLTVNZ very reliable to get my listings into GBPVR and you can turn off all the menu options you don't want so its very quick to navigate and do what you want to do. All of the troubles I've ever had have been related to Codec's or Flaws from Directx! Someday soon hopefully someone will OEM your product with hardware and pay you very nicely for your hard work SUB!

Thanks for verifying the ver info, mobiusnz..

Dxdiag says I have the 9.0b ver with the 9.0c dx set. Good news.

I've been through this whole quartz thingy and I'd just like to alert folks that:

1. There appears to be THREE "old" quartz.dll's, ALL vers 6.05.01.0902's a 1.87MB one, a 1.78MB one and a 1.18 MB one, from dll-files.com.

2. The 6.05.2600.2508 version from my original DX9C install was 1.22MB.

3. The 6.05.2600.2180 from my 9C install appears to be 1.22MB.

4. I recently installed the DX9 SDK and I "think" Microsoft MAY have fiddled with it again. It reports a 6.05.2600.2578 version of 1.22MB in size.

All versions from right click properties.

Just be careful with all the versions. Which is the right one? Dunno, it'll be the one that works :-)

Cheers

k.

Where can I find a copy of quartz.dll from 9.0b - 6.5.1.902?
