  Computer Wizards help needed
Posted by: Jaggy - 2013-12-13, 12:30 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (14)

I am completely flam-dumb-zambled on this one.... so if any of you computer bright sparks can come up with an explanation I would be very very appreciative indeed.

As a little background I have an (old now) dedicated PC just as a PVR server & do all my watching/listening etc. via NMT's & I have had digital recording glitch problems ever since I setup for DVB-S around six odd years (the PC wasn't all that old in those days) ago but within the last fortnight I discovered something I almost completely missed for those six odd years....

I had an (almost new) splitter failure a couple of Wednesday's ago that caused all my recordings to fail that night, the next day (Thursday), being as I was flat out, I just hooked up my second dish direct to one card (this required lnb setting to be changed so I did a pc re-boot as well) & the reception/recording of the news was good with only two micro-glitchs (that you wouldn't have even seen if you weren't really looking for them) but the next night (Friday) having not changed anything it was almost totally unwatchable rubbish.... Saturday I hooked everything back into the first dish with a different splitter & changed the lnb settings again & did a quick warm re-boot of the PC & the news recording that evening was almost glitch free..... Sunday & again the news recording was glitchy (not un-watchable but bloody annoying) so Monday I was thinking about this & thought it couldn't be could it, nah no way, well maybe, but I can't think why it would, well it isn't all that hard to test.... so around 4:30pm I again did a PC warm boot & low & behold the news recording was actually 100% glitch free.... the next day I didn't re-boot it & there were glitchs again in the recording of the news... then next day a warm boot at around 4:45pm & 100% glitch free again.... yesterday I did a warm boot at around 7:50am & there were a small amount of glitchs in last nights recording... today I have done a warm boot at around 12:10pm & I will see the results tonight... but it appears I have been chasing the wrong end of these glitch problem all along & I have shelled of quite a few $ trying to fix the dish/lnb/cables which I thought were the culprits but they don't seem to have been it all along

Live TV - switching between windowed and full screen
Posted by: t^2 - 2013-12-12, 08:25 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (3)

I use a wireless keyboard with built in mouse buttons and track ball. I'd like the ability to easily return to windowed Live TV from full screen. I often jump out and cruise the internet or do other things on the computer during commercials etc.... It would be nice not to have to exit NPVR to get out of full screen and then have to bring NPVR back up again and select Live TV to get to windowed mode. If this can already be done, please let me know how. So far I haven't seen a way.

  Can't record
Posted by: jerrry32953 - 2013-12-12, 06:53 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (6)

NVPR 3.1.1
WIN7
AMD A8
Hauppage 2250

When I try any type or record, scheduled, manual, etc. I get entries in "pending recordings" but record never starts. I sure it's something i've overlooked. I've applied latest patches but no help. Live TV digital and analog works great. Logs attached.

Thanks for assistance.

  Can't Skip After v2.5.9->3.1.1 Upgrade
Posted by: Braklet - 2013-12-12, 03:09 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (58)

Migrated from v2.5.9 to 3.1.1 using the general MSI package, and then applied the NPVR 3.1.1 R1 rollup.

Most functions seem to work well, and I find the new OSD TV Guide super useful (thanks!).

However, a couple of basic play functions that I have come to rely on either don't work at all, or are very fragile. I'll focus on skip in particular since I see what appear to be identical errors in the npvr.exe front end.

I can initiate play on normal recordings, but any time I try to mess with skip functions, either short (via >> IR remote key) or long (via ->| IR remote key), NPVR pops up an unhandled exception with a "divide by zero" error. When this happens, the only recovery is to kill the npvr.exe process completely, I've found no other alternative.

This is really bad during chase play, where I simultaneously play a file that is currently recording. Popups are always unhandled exceptions with divide by zero errors.

Last night I captured npvr.exe log data from one such event where I played a normal, completed recording. I then attempted to skip 50 minutes ahead with my usual technique on the IR remote: 5, 0, ->| . This immediately brought forth the unhandled exception/div0 popup. I extracted the corresponding log entries and attached them to this posting.

I'm a little surprised I wasn't able to find similar reports in the forae... hope I'm not out here on my own with this one.

Let me know if I can extract any additional information. Thanks!

Windows Media Center 7 works well. NextPVR not so much.
Posted by: t^2 - 2013-12-12, 01:56 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (20)

My HTPC is an Acer Aspire X1200-U1520A (specs). The computer is connected to a Samsung (don't have the model number handy at the moment) 37" HDTV (720P native). Two tuners are installed. The first is an ATI 650 Combo PCIe and the other is an AverMedia M780. Operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium. My cable provider is Comcast (Baltimore - Essex, Maryland).

I've been using WMC for some time. WMC has always just worked on my system. No performance issues, artifacts, or anomalies in video or audio.

I'd like to get the same results with NextPVR, but so far I haven't been able to get there. I've installed SAF6 (unlocked). Tried all the Renderer options (but primarily EVR). I've tried all the the MPEG2 Video Decoders (but primarily Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder and PDVD13).

So the problems I'm seeing in NextPVR that I don't ever see with WMC are some artifacts or freezing/stuttering seen in live TV (HD/SD). It's especially noticeable when watching the news and they display their graphics in the background (to the side of the reporters head) our full screen (like say a traffic or weather report graphic). You can see the lines in the graphic (for example a road) flicker momentarily here and there. It happens every few seconds to many seconds apart. I don't know if it's an interlacing problem, some kind of sync problem, frame rate or what. You can also see it happen in regular video - say watching a persons head/face as they speak or watching a train move on the screen. The motion just seems to stutter ever so briefly for a second here and there. Rapidly panning video also seems to be an issue.

So what special sauce is WMC using that NextPVR isn't? There's got to be something different about how the two pieces of software go about their business because they produce different results. I've noted DirectShow vs. Media Foundation, but I'm not a software engineer/programmer so the significance in this application probably escapes me.

I'll also note that I have another desktop the I'm serving live TV to with NPVR Server to NPVR client (hardwired CAT5/Ethernet from Netgear router). I installed a NVidia GeForce 8500 GT in that computer a few years back (it's not using it's integrated). I don't recall off my head the rest of the computer specs (but note that it's a few years older then the Acer I mentioned above). It's connected to a Viewsonic 17" monitor. Anyway, served live TV plays beautifully on this desktop. I'm assuming that it's sent as MPEG2 to the client and is decoded on the client computer via the GeForce 8500 GT (DXVA hardware acceleration). Essentially, my assumption is that NextPVR is doing basically the same thing on both machines except the source is different for the MPEG2 (tuner card vs. Ethernet stream). So why is NPVR working so well on the other desktop vs. my HTPC connected to my HDTV?

HP USB Digital/Analog TV Tuner (Adding analog support) Windows 8.1
Posted by: Awol - 2013-12-11, 07:26 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

I've recently updated from windows 7 to windows 8.1 where i had NextPvr as a backend for xbmc.
Since I've updated I cant get NextPvr to recognize my HP analog tuner..

I have followed the instructions as best i can for adding a analog tuner, I have run the batch SoftPVR as administrator, all files extract successfully.
I have also created a AnalogDevices.xml and placed it in the root of the NPVR folder.

Under Devices i have currently listed.
ATSC HP ATSC tuner
QAM HP ATSC tuner

I am missing the Analog Devise and not sure what I'm missing or if its a windows 8.1 thing..
Thanks for any help in advance..

Live TV stream will not play
Posted by: bryan.hunt - 2013-12-11, 03:09 AM - Forum: Kodi / XBMC - Replies (2)

Hello,

I am using XBMC for android on a Galaxy S3 phone with a NextPVR server.

When on my local network, the client works perfectly.

When coming through my firewall from the Internet, the client attaches to the server fine (channel guide updates, next scheduled recording shows correctly). But, when I request to watch a live channel, the XBMC client shows "working" and hangs forever.

A sniff of the traffic between client and server shows this:
- Initial TCP handshake is fine
- Client makes this request: GET /live?channel=2&client=XBMC-43f82ab1acfb4b62b7a120488cca4dbc HTTP/1.0
- Server ACKs
- Client then sends: Connection: close
- Server responds: HTTP/1.1 403 ForbiddenServer: NextPVR Connection: Close
- About 3.5 minutes later the server RSTs the TCP connection
- About 50 seconds later, the client opens new TCP connection and sends: GET /service? method=recording.list&filter=pending&sid=43f82ab1acfb4b62b7a120488cca4dbc HTTP/1.1
Range: bytes=0-
User-Agent: XBMC/12.2 Git:20130502-32b1a5e (Linux; Android; 3.0.31-1152558 armv7l; http://www.xbmc.org)
Host: x.x.x.x:8866
Accept: */*
Connection: keep-alive
- Server reply: HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Server: WinTVExtender
Connection: Close
Content-Length: 110
Content-Type: application/xml
- Client: ACK
- Server: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<rsp stat="fail">
<err code="8" msg="Invalid Session" />
</rsp>
- Client: ACK
- Client: FIN
- Server: ACK

So, not sure what it is that either the client or the server is having an issue with. The firewall is a straight-through, one-to-one NAT.

Is there a setting either on the client or on the server that needs to be set saying "allow streaming to foreign IP addresses"?

Any help to debug this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

  stream settings?
Posted by: OTAjunkie - 2013-12-11, 01:06 AM - Forum: NextPVR Enhanced Web Admin (NEWA) - Replies (3)

I don't seem to have a "Stream" button only "play" and "download".

I found the transcode settings very useful as my up bandwidth is only 256k.

If the stream options have been ditched what are my options?

  Select "Find More"... Where?
Posted by: t^2 - 2013-12-11, 12:25 AM - Forum: TV Listings - Replies (1)

So... Following the instructions I get to the part below. I don't see the the "Find More" button anywhere. What am I missing?

Quote:TheTVDB integration

The plugin is able to automatically enhance the tv shows with information from TheTVDB.com, once a tv show's title has been linked to a TheTVDB series. In order to do so, the following simple steps are needed: In the listings, open the details for a programme of a series you wish to link. Select "Find More", and choose "TheTVDB" from the dropdown button.
