After years of watching shows via the Hauppauge Media MVP, an old PC is now the NPVR server and installed near the TV for direct HDMI connection. Does anyone have experience with the vast array of MCE remotes that are available? When looking on ebay I see generic ones, Microsoft ones, at least 2 different models from Lenovo, 3 or more models from HP and even some from Dell (which look exactly like the Lenovo-branded ones). The options are bewildering. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p...&_from=R40
I notice that some are missing the colored buttons. Are these important? We do use the blue button frequently in NPVR to pull up the OSD, but I'm not even sure what the other colored buttons do. A couple of channels are flagged copy-once so we're forced to use WMC for that. Will these remotes control WMC when NPVR isn't running? I've also looked briefly at XBMC but is it really useful for use as a DVR? It looks geared more towards playing movies, but perhaps I'm missing something!
Anyway, I just wanted to "ask the audience" about their experiences with MCE remotes and see if there are things to watch for before pulling the trigger. (Perhaps I don't even know enough about them to even ask the right questions).
One thought is that perhaps the Hauppauge 45-button remote could still be used with the IR receiver that comes with the MCE kits? But will it work with WMC and XBMC?
I have set up NPVR on a WHS 2011 box and, after breezing through the setup, have become frustrated at the remote web access portion. Here's what I've done so far:
1) Forwarded port 8866 on my router.
2) Opened up port 8866 on my firewall, and allowed exceptions the NRecord.exe and NPVR.exe.
3) Attempted to follow the wiki, but it seems it's outdated maybe? There are no options for VLC that I can find.
4) I can connect on the local lan, but when I click "Live TV", a browser window opens and I get nothing else.
5) Remote web access using my outside IP brings me to a login screen, but I get nothing after I click log in. Again, I tried following the wiki with no luck.
Is there are an easier way to do this? Perhaps somebody could share some screenshots? I'm fairly new to NPVR, all help is appreciated.
Since I upgraded to 3.1.1 on my PVR dedicated machine, when I update my epg while using a NovaT500 Tuner during Live TV or a recording.
I run XMTV Downloader to create a pay tv XML file, this program then runs "-updateepgonly" to get the Digital channels using the Nova T 500. The Nova T records 1 minuite from each of the 5 digital streams available then I get the database locked message. At this point I have to reboot the machine as NPVR will not respond.
Very impressed with how well your app works with my recently purchased TV reven - many thanks.
There is one thing causing a slight problem with watching recordings and one "nice to have" from npvr.
First is "is it possible to have subtitle displayed?" Going into a series directory, there is only the date to differentiate recordings. (see attached pics).
The "nice to have" feature is also in the same area to help navigate season directories. npvr has the ability to flag recordings with 1 to 4 RGBY colours for users to use as they wish to flag recordings (i.e. up to four people saying they have watched something).
So I can select ip address depending on whether I'm on wifi or 3g, but could you get ndroid to base transcoding quality on the network? When I'm on a mobile network I would prefer the lowest bandwidth, and on wifi the highest with out having to manually adjust the transcoding (twice; live and recordings).
https://github.com/MediaPortal/MediaPort...bosight.csI know Sub tried to get the TBS 5880 CI working with NPVR with some help from me (as a tester). We never got it to work though...
But I see that Mediaportal has it working fine since a while and I was thinking that maybe Sub could have a look at that source to see if they do something differently.
There seems also to be a newer SDK and a new CI dll. Perhaps that helps?
Is it possible we could have another go at this?
If not, is there another DVB-T2 tuner with CI that does work with NPVR? I would really like to not purchase another HW, but if that is the only way...
Hi, when trying to skip, the video freezes and it appears npvr .ts playback gets stuck in a loop.
Here is a log of opening npvr, starting playback, then after a few seconds attempting to skip forward, waiting at a frozen screen for a few seconds, then exiting.
You can see that's it's looping finding the length of the show endlessly. I've attached the comskip output files, too to help debug.
This does not appear to be decoder related, all 4 decoders that I've tried respond the same.
