Time to make Touch web Service less experimental
Posted by: fred250 - 2013-09-15, 11:12 AM - Forum: Developers - Replies (106)

In the last couple of days I've been tinkering with an experimental feature of NextPVR called Touch web Service.
Wiki - http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...WebService

Thanks Sub!
This is such a good idea and platform for building lightweight, yet fully spec clients.
I'm using it to get NextPVR directly on my LG Smart TV as an App.
I think this platform has the potential to become a worthy successor to the excellent NMT-client now as PopcornHours are getting hard to find.

The big advantage to this approach vs building a client using traditional web services is that you'll get all the skinning, most features, including some 3rd party plugins for free. How is that possible?
Well..it basically works by running a real NextPVR client on the server and sending a screenshot image to the client whenever it receives a kepress sent over http. It can't be any simpler really.

I actually in less than a day of coding got it up an running on my LG TV looking and working just like the real thing. Me and web design don't mix very well so just getting the TV guide on the screen would have taken me weeks building a traditional web client depending on webservices.

This is early days but I feel confident to say this definitely is worth building on and it's time to move away from experimental.

I've listed some things that I feel would need fixing before it can drop it's experimental status.
Some things will need work to be made on server side, some issues may just be a matter of information.

Requested features
* Allow for multiple simultaneous clients
* The ability to send ctrl-keys (such as ctrl-P for play)
* More info about the file about to play (recording name, and resume at position etc)
* Streaming of files with accented filenames doesn't work.

Bugs and quirks due to it's experimental
* It starts playback of the requested file in the NextPVR.exe running (hidden) on the server causing errors.
* Server must be run using NRecord RUN to avoid the errors caused by this playback issue.

Just a thought...
I don't know anything about the inner workings of NextPVR but what comes to my mind is to refactor the NMT-mode to allow for communication using Motion Jpeg and http requests mimicking the “modified version of VNC” I believe is what NMT uses.
To me these two clients seem to have much i common.

/Fred

New to Nextpvr, what TV tuner card to get
Posted by: Stoweskier - 2013-09-15, 10:57 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (4)

Two questions.

Should I get a Haupauge dual tuner card, or can nextpvr record multiple show simultaneously from a Haupauge single tuner card?

Should I get the a Haupauge card with a remote included? I already have a harmony remote and therefore should I get a Hauppauge without a remote and instead get an USB ir blaster and use the harmony?

Anyway, I guess I'm asking is it preferable to get the top of the line Hauppauge 2250 dual tuner card with remote or can I get by with something less. Recording/viewing more than one thing at a time is a requirement.

I will be using this card to record/view ota signals from an antenna, no cable box. Running vista os.

Thanks

  Copy to VHS with PVR150
Posted by: soccerdad - 2013-09-14, 09:16 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

Hi to all-

Been a long time since I last posted. Been lurking to keep up with the group, but have mostly stayed with WMC7 because of my cablecard stuff and copy flags Sad

Anyway, I am finally getting around to try to copy my family VHS recordings to digital format. I know this is not the best with NextPVR, but need some help. I put in my old PVR150 into my W7-32 bit machine. I then tried to install WinTV, but it won't let me. So I then DLd the WinTV6 software, but for some reason it won't install and says it wants my original CD, which I have, but it does not like.

So- what software would you use to capture from a PVR150? (composite input). Again, this is on a W7 machine?

Thanks!

cant view a channel because it cant get guide data
Posted by: xsirxx - 2013-09-14, 06:19 PM - Forum: nDroid - Replies (23)

I can't get android to download program data from the server. The server shows the full guide so I know its there yet when I try to view it on any of my android devices it just keeps circling over and over. Because of this I can't view a single channel. What should I do? Am I missing a port open for guide data or what? BTW we are making a connection to the server for channels.

Thanks!

stream live tv in x264 to xbmc?
Posted by: xsirxx - 2013-09-14, 01:57 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

I have tried a thousand different ways to get live TV streaming to xbmc in x264 but have been unsuccessful. I currently have a server that sends mpeg2 over to my android stick running xbmc but it can't decode it fast enough. I know h264 at 1080p in xbmc works perfectly.

So my question is, is there an exact way to stream live TV from npvr to xbmc in h264 transcoded?

Thanks much!

Colossus slight stutter with Composite SPDIF and does a splitter fix HDMI HDCP?
Posted by: jksmurf - 2013-09-14, 01:42 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (5)

Code:
If you don't have fixed rate from you STB, by default you could end up with HD recorded to SD spec if the channels goes from sd to hd. Martin
On another thread Martin wrote the above. With a recently installed Colossus I still get a discernible stutter. My Cable Box produces (I think) an SD signal, bit the multiple posts I read show the Colossus to record an H264 one. So, is it that (a) I am underpowered on playback (b) its decoders or © do I need to modify config.xml like I saw on some 2011//2012 posts IIRC to amend the bitrate? [on a separate note, I bought an HDMI splitter with HDCP as my cable box said HDCP protection when I connected directly HDMI Cable Box to HDMI Colossus, but when I connected HDMI Cable Box =>Splitter=> in the Device Setup, and setup the device as HDMO HDMI (Video / Audio) all I got was a black screen - does using a splitter do the HDCP handshake and should I this expect video? I really would like to get rid of the massively clunky composite cables. cheers k.

NMT & Web not in settings?
Posted by: SilverTiger - 2013-09-14, 01:41 PM - Forum: NextPVR Enhanced Web Admin (NEWA) - Replies (2)

I am successfully using NextPVR 2.6.2 (no patches) on Windows 8 64 bit. I read on the Wiki that NEWA is included with NextPVR. However, I have no "NMT and Web" in my settings. What am I missing? Should I just download and install it or should it be there?

Use Haali Media Splitter for .ts playback?
Posted by: mianpe - 2013-09-13, 07:14 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (8)

Hello,

Long time GB-PVR user here finally looking into making the switch to NEXTPVR. Got it all setup with new hardware and things are working, but I see laggy performance with Fast Forward and Rewind while watching recordings (ATSC OTA .ts from a Hauppage WinTV tuner). Generally after hitting FF, the audio immediately skips forward and plays (this is good), but the video takes 1-2 seconds to start playing. It's a bit annoying since my 5 year old HTPC setup with GP-PVR works so nicely.

So I got looking at my old setup and I was using Haali Media Splitter. Sure enough, after installing that and loading the .ts file in Graphedit, it works a treat. Snappy and fast. However, it looks like NEXTPVR will never select the Haali splitter, instead choosing "NPVR TS Reader2" and "MPEG-2 Demultiplexer".

So am I out of luck, or is there a way to get NEXTPVR to use the same filters as graphedit for .ts files?

Thanks!
-Mike

Is NextPVR best software best for my requirements?
Posted by: rajjesh - 2013-09-13, 11:47 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (25)

Hi,
I want to develop a web program to schedule recordings of multiple TV channels (in India) at a time (depending on request). In India, there is digitization of cable TV channels now.
So, my question is whether NextPVR is the perfect software for me. If yes, is there only ASP.NET version for web interface? Also tell me which TV tuner card will be best suitable for my requirements.
Thanks in advance.

No Live TV, but recording via guide works
Posted by: RichU - 2013-09-13, 12:06 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (10)

Not a major problem, but "significant." My real use of NPVR, great program!, is to record OTA TV. Tests of this work! After I got the "details" of stations mostly worked out per the User Guide. I've done a couple test recordings and they worked.

But, Live TV does not work - first a "please wait" box comes up for a few seconds, then when the LiveTV screen comes up, it is a black screen. At the top line of the box, I do see some call letters for channels("NPVR - KWGH" or so), and tapping the plus (+) key changes the channel to another recognizable call letter set for local stations. But the screen part stays black. The "n" in the system tray goes red as happens when "record" is triggered,

My log folder is zipped and attached.

Any ideas? Not a deal breaker, but an annoyance.

Thanks.
