I have a little list of outstanding issues I wanted to fix at home before I was super happy with my current Media Center setup with respect to NPVR so I figured I would list them out here to have what I view as bugs listed in one place. I hope this will be helpful to others or perhaps even me in the case that there are issues I am having which can potentially be fixed. A couple of these issues are absolute show-stoppers while others are just "nice to have".
If anyone else running the same setup as mentioned in the subject is having an issue not reported here please let me know so I can hopefully capture it. If you are having an issue which is not related to the specific setup mentioned here please do not use this thread.
NOTE: NOT ALL OF THESE ISSUES ARE ON THE NPVR SIDE, SOME ARE SIMPLY XBMC ISSUES ACROSS ALL BACKENDS
These issues are relevant for, but not limited to, the following setup:
Windows 7 64-Bit
XBMC 12.2 Frodo
NPVR 2.6.2
XBMC NPVR Addon 1.6.4 as packaged with XBMC 12.2
HDHomeRun Prime using CableCARD
NPVR Related Issues
Timeshift Files Stay in Place
Description of problem:
Upon changing channels the previous channel seems to continue recording.
Symptoms:
The issues with this are that 1) Eventually your hard drive will get full and they only way to delete the timeshift files is to stop all NPVR services, delete the files, and start the services back up and 2) After you change channels 3 times (in the case of a 3 tuner HDHomeRun Prime) you will run out of tuners and XBMC will freeze/crash/report there are no tuners left.
Current Fixes or Workarounds?
Apparently fixed in v1.6.5 of NPVR addon for XBMC however the relevant genre mappings may not be in place. Need documentation on how to create relevant mappings and/or customize EPG colors as are relevant to your source of EPG data.
Channel Changes Freeze
Description of problem:
When using XBMC 12.2 with NPVR Addon 1.6.5 changing channels causes XBMC to freeze and the only fix is to kill XBMC and restart it.
Symptoms
You can begin to watch one channel fine, upon switching to a second channel you will see it begin to record a timeshift file (which will quickly disappear) and the NPVR status will report the new channel is tuned and the tuner is in use but XBMC will sit there and behave as if it is playing the new channel although it is not. A frozen view of the previous channel will remain on the screen. At this point the only thing which can be done is to forcibly close XBMC, stop all NPVR processes, clean up timeshift files and restart everything. It is impossible to ever change channels for me when I am in this particular configuration.
Current Fixes or Workarounds?
Do not use version 1.6.5 of XBMC NPVR Addon
XBMC Live TV Issues
Unable to set up recurring recordings from within XBMC
Description of problem:
Recurring recordings set from within XBMC do not actually work.
Current Fixes or Workarounds?
This is apparently an issue on the XBMC side. Currently the only workaround is to use the NPVR web-gui to set up any recurring recordings.
Channel Changes are Slow
Description of problem:
This is not an NPVR issue but an XBMC issue where changing channels can take between 5-7 seconds.
Current Fixes or Workarounds?
The above thread is actually not a discussion surrounding NPVR however the fixes posted within that thread will apparently speed up channel changes from 5-7 seconds down to 1-2 seconds when using NPVR. I have not had success with using the 12.2 "Margro" build of XBMC because it comes packaged with NPVR addon 1.6.5 which makes me unable to change channels as mentioned above.
I have a setup with both an HDHomerun Dual tuner box and an HVR-1800 card. I have no audio issues with playback or recordings from the HdHomeRun, which currently tunes QAM HD broadcasts, AC3 audio. I also record HD via ATSC antenna, currently connected to the HVR card. Odd thing is that occasionally my audio receiver seems to select "PCM Stereo" and that sometimes results in odd audio behavior - background sound with no voiceover on sporting events, or no audio on some commercials. The HDHomerun playback seems to pass audio of various formats, and the receiver deals with it well.
I can generally fix the audio by left-clicking the screen and selecting audio track, the choosing the AC3 track 1 - but this doesn't seem to "stick" from recording to recording. Any setting I can make either within NPVR or elsewhere to solve? Thanks.
I have a Diamond ATI TV Wonder HD750 USB stick. I use both analog and digital channels but when an analog show is immediately followed by a digital show, I get "Device failed to start". I assume that this device actually has only 1 tuner but NPVR sees them as separate devices. How can I make this work? Log files attached.
I'm trying to fake the npvr.db3 for unit tests. I've inserted fake epg data, a fake digital recorder, channels, channel mapping, capture source.
when i try to schedule a recording (thats what im unit testing) it fails. when I open nextpvr gui and try to do a recording nextpvr says "No tuner is available to record the requested...."
What am I missing? The machine I'm trying to run these unit tests on is a blank build VM which has nextpvr installed, but no capture sources or anything (just a hyper-v image).
Have you seen over at the Plex Forums some guys that have hijacked the Apple Trailers App on an aTV3 (no jailbreaking required, obviously) that allows the aTV3 to connect to a Plex server? It's really quite amazing...They're using a web host and DNS forwarding with a few simple Python scripts...it really works well...
Would it be possible to do something similar to connect to NEWA?
Pretty please? Would be great to have a non-jailbroken Apple TV (2/3) work with Plex Server and connect to NextPVR...that would be the ultimate solution...
As anyone ever managed to program Ctrl+W for LMRemote and got it to work. This is the only key I've had this problem with but when programmed through the remote, nothing happens yet it works perfectly using the keyboard. I'm not sure why this would be, but wondered if it is to do with the way the code is programmed in somehow? I've tried all LMRemotes ways of sending keys (I think) and yet still have not managed to get the channels to swap.
I appreciate this may well be LMRemote but just wondered if I am the first to encounter this...
Hi I have everything working in NPVR, successful channel scan etc. But when I go into Settings, system info, PVR service it sees no channels. Live TV displays no channels also.
Win7 pro 32 bit, Hauppauge WinTV-PVR350, wintv 7 installed and working.
PVR Backend 127.0.0.1 shows connected but disksize = 0, channels =0 so that can't be right...
Okay, I'm finally trying the XBMC Frodo thing with NextPVR as the backend. I've been at this for about 6 hours straight... no luck yet, even after browsing the forums, etc.
1. I've got an HDHomeRun
2. I've set the three items to go through the firewall
3. I scanned for and found 30 OTA channels
4. I installed LAV and ffdshow and currently have it set up as follows:
Video Renderer - EVR
Audio Renderer - Default
Music Renderer - Default
MPEG2 Video - Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoded
H.264 Video - Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder
MPEG1 Audio - LAV
AC3 Audio - LAV
E-AC3 Audio - LAV
AAC Audio - LAV
HE-AAC Audio - LAV
5. I've also tried the ffdshow codecs with no success
6. I have HDHomerun set up to NextPVR, though I've also tried Other: ATSC/QAM
7. I have HDHomerun set up to Inject TVCT
8. I try to watch video via the application, but no workie... It still works fine in WMC and VLC
I'm at wits end. My logs are attached... any help would be appreciated!
