  Live TV freezes on client
Posted by: nx01 - 2012-04-17, 06:29 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (10)

Ok, I still have this problem when live TV on my clients (all 3 of them) will randomly freeze, I have even now plugged in two of the clients directly into the back of the server with a cross over cable (all systems have gigabit cards) and the problem still occurs.

Playback of recorded programs does not suffer the same problem.

I am on Version 2.4.3

I would like to try to get this resolved, if someone can let me know how to switch on complete logging/debug etc I can post the logs when it next happends, many thanks

  Show Image Names?
Posted by: gonzo90017 - 2012-04-17, 04:17 AM - Forum: TV Listings - Replies (2)

The show's name is:
Peep and the Big Wide World/Pocoyo

However Windows doesn't allow me to name it that. The best I can do is:
Peep and the Big Wide World Pocoyo

Is there another symbol I can use to replace the / in the filename?

  Win8
Posted by: sub - 2012-04-17, 01:28 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (14)

I see Microsoft has now announced the versions of Win8. See http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/b/blo...tions.aspx

Basically three versions:
- Windows 8 RT (for ARM tablets etc)
- Windows 8 (for mainstream x86/x64 users)
- Windows 8 Pro (for business or enthusiasts, adding encryption/virtualization/domain-support etc)

Windows Media Center will not be included in any of those by default, but "will be available as an economical 'media pack' add-on to Windows 8 Pro". It sounds like it will not be available for 'Windows 8 RT' or regular 'Windows 8'.

I have PostUpdateEPG.bat in the scripts folder set to run xmltvextras but I still don't get any genre colors. Is there anything else I need to do?

NPVR unable to play GBPVR .mpg recordings
Posted by: chunkymonkey909 - 2012-04-16, 09:51 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (11)

I have been happly using GBPVR for quite some time but decided it was time to take the plunge and upgrade to NPVR.
All has gone well except I am unable to play the imported recordings. They are all listed under recordings but when I select play I get not sound or video. I can play them with Windows Media Player. They have a .mpg file format and were recorded with GBPVR from a DVB-T source. I think they would have normally had a .ts format but I enabled 'BDA Multiplex = Cyberlink" to save them as .mpg so I could access them from other PC's etc.
I'm using Windows Vista and have tried MS MPEG and FFDSHOW decoders.
A previous simular post on this forum suggested install Haali Media Splitter which I have done but it did not make any difference.

Thanks
Martin

Updating Guide Issues and Interface comments
Posted by: Jakesty - 2012-04-16, 07:52 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (9)

I've got a couple of problems, and not sure how to sync/fix them. I've set up MC2XML. I'm using Win 7 64bit

1. To set up the guide, each channel must be done individually. The bulk map import does nothing. It says it will take several minutes, but finishes in about 10 seconds give or take.
2. If I set up the Channels individually, the guide is only showing about 4 days guide data. I configured MCE thinking that might be it, but no. Then I updated the xmltv file manually from MC2XML.exe and Update EPG button. MCE problem or Sync with NPVR problem?

Because I'm still very new to NEXTPVR, I have a few questions. Sorry for my ignorance, but I'm trying to get up to speed
1. can I change the interface in the guide or upcoming recordings, what's new, etc. How many rows or columns to display, font size?
2. Because I've done some minor recordings, how is that displayed in the guide for a previously recorded show, compared to an old show needing to be recorded or a new show? Can the guide show that it is one of these types of shows from my desired recording queue? Does it show anything on the guide due to conflicts?
3. The Display shows info I don't need in the upcoming recordings left pane which is on two lines, so by limiting that I could then see more per screen. For example: the channel it is recording on is of less concern (aka WBBM) and is already displayed on the next screen if I select it. In fact as I scroll down the list, the name of the show is on the left and in the right pane too. I'd just get rid of the extra one on the right. When I look at the upcoming recordings it shows the date with the year ad nauseum. We know what year it is. Maybe just the title of the show and time? As in my mocked up example?
4. Something I do find very valuable is the original air date. Maybe something for the right pane at the bottom?
5. I would speculate that when a person is in What's New, that 95% of the time they want to find the show and play it. Is there a way to do that without opening, arrowing down to play and hitting play? If not, can't the first choice be PLAY instead of CLOSE? I don't know all of the short cut keys yet if I'm missing something here sorry.
6. When I look at Recurring Recordings, I see the title of the recording, But with "Record All Channels All Times" set, all I see is "Recurring All Channels". When I update it, it's letting modify the Time, but in fact it's set to record any time. So that is confusing. If I modify that time, will it make a difference?
7. Can the recurring recordings list be sorted? By Alpha?
8. How is priority assigned when there is a conflict? How can I adjust?

I've got a few (a lot) more ideas Sub. I hope you're up for this type of input as I only want to help make it better, and eventually replace my other PVR system. I'm sure you put in tons of work on this system and it shows, and you really have made some outstanding progress. Seems like you have a passion for this (Home theatre, PVR, etc) as I do too. In my previous life I designed the interface for my companies $100mm/month B2B and B2C website.

Thanks, Jake

Asking for Network Password on Windows 7?
Posted by: gonzo90017 - 2012-04-16, 01:51 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (7)

Server and Client both running Windows 7 and belong to the same HomeGroup.

I set up a client and a server and everything worked fine until the Server machine hibernated and then woke up from hibernation. I got an error on the client of not being able to access npvr.db3 from the server. I went to explorer and tried opening the Users folder from the client machine and it asked for a username and password (which I never set up in the first place). So I went back to the Server pc and clicked on Homegroup and noticed Documents were not being shared. So I started sharing Documents on the Server pc and all was well again....until I rebooted the machine. I got the error on the client again of not being able to access npvr.db3 from the server. So I went to explorer again to try to browse the Users folder from the client pc and it's asking for a password again.

  Double video image
Posted by: cher - 2012-04-15, 08:36 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

I'm making the leap from GBPVR to NPVR. Everything has gone fine, EXCEPT that half of my TV channels display a double image - both in Live viewing and recorded playback. The video image is only about half of what would normally be seen on the screen and is repeated, side by side. I reopened GBPVR and checked these channels (they're displaying correctly in GBPVR) then checked the video decoder settings, and set them up the same in NPVR. Changing the video decoders did not change the double image. Only digital "split" channels have the double image. i.e. channel 10.1 is fine, but 10.2 & 10.3 have double images, channel 21.1 is fine, but 21.2 & 21.3 are doubled. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  Listings update stops recordings.
Posted by: Bobbybear - 2012-04-15, 12:18 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (2)

Hi Support
Found an interesting bug in NextPVR v2.4.2 this weekend.'
If the program tries to update the EPG during the time a program is recording, the recording process stops even though the 'system plugin' says it is still recording, the 'NEWA desktop gadget' still says its recording as does the 'Devices status' panel. The funny thing is that although the actual recording is stopped the PC does not return to sleep mode until the time that it should if the recording had continued.

Example.
Today Sunday 15 April UK, BBC1 Chinese F1 Grand Prix, program start time 7:00 AM program finish time 10:15 AM.
I record my programs with 15 minutes padding both before and after the start and finish time. I also have the EPG update to run at 7:AM every day.
Today: PC woke from sleep a few seconds before 6:45 AM and started to record at 6:45, the PC went back to sleep after 10:30 AM as expected and all the time reported that the program was being recorded.
When I inspected the recorded .ts file it was only 17:41.19 minutes long which means that it stopped recording 2 minutes 41 seconds after the 7:00 AM EPG update time, presumably while the EPG update was processing.

This is not the only instance exactly the same thing happened the day before when I attempted to record the F1 Qualifying session which also covered the 7:00 AM time period.
OK so there is a short term simple solution, which is to update the EPG at 3:00 AM when hopefully nothing is recording and if there is change the update time again not elegant but will work until a fix is found.

For the EPG I use XMLTV (mc2xml) and for the few channels without an XMLTV listing DVB/ATSC.

I hope someone knows of a good solution or can fix the bug.

Regards Bob
