Lifehacker - Best Five Ways to Stream Live TV
Posted by: mvallevand - 2012-02-07, 04:16 AM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

Since it comes up here from time-to-time here is a link to the recent poll results on the best live tv streaming apps http://lifehacker.com/5882209/five-best-...am-live-tv For me the biggest surprises were that Slingplayer wasn't #1 and that WinTV Extend made the top 5. Maybe I will spend the $10. or hunt out an original CD, (I must have one around here somewhere)

  Yet Another MCE remote question
Posted by: big3b69 - 2012-02-06, 11:27 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (5)

I been searching on ebay for a MCE remote and I am finding many remotes that are Dell, HP emachine, wil these work on my home build system. I have a Harmony 88o, I just need something compatable with nPVR.

Thanks.

Random Photo pplug in selection grows
Posted by: Grampz - 2012-02-06, 09:52 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (1)

I found this odd in the prior release and would just go into the config file and delete the entries. This still remains with the current release and wonder why the Random Photo plug in selection keeps growing.

Just kind of weird... anyone else have this happening?

  NMT/NPVR Weirdness
Posted by: baj1 - 2012-02-06, 03:44 PM - Forum: MVPMCX2 and other NMT stuff - Replies (8)

I have an A-100 and an A-110 on my system. Both work great with my old GBPVR server. However, when I connect to my NPVR server, the A-100 works okay, but the A-110 does not. The response to remote button presses is preposterously slow (like 20-30 seconds), the skip back (Prev) actually goes forward, and it routinely locks up (black screen requiring reset button on PCH). Other than the video format different (GB-PVR is all SD/MPEG, N-PVR is HD/TS format), are there any differences in how NPVR and GBPVR handle the NMTs? Any suggested settings for NPVR for the NMTs?

Thanks,
-Brad

  Client loosing timing info
Posted by: jcjefferies - 2012-02-06, 12:31 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (5)

Once or twice a week I have a recording playing on the client which looses the timing info so “Skip” no longer works. Last night the timing info disappeared 47 minutes into a 65 minute recording and the numbers on the time bar all become zero. This morning the same recording played normally on the server so I could skip to the end but several retries on the client all loose timing at around 47 minutes. I mainly use Skip to bypass the adverts as usually it is more reliable than Comskip. This also happened on the previous version.

Enclosed is Client log of test on same file jumping forward normally until at 11:35:37 all the timing goes wrong. Enclosed is Server NRecord log covering the same period.

Need help with initial setup, EPG issues
Posted by: Remo - 2012-02-06, 08:49 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (11)

I just installed NPVR, and did a channel scan. It found all the channels ok but has them associated to "DVB/ATSC EPG". I want to use Schedules Direct (SD). I see how to change an individual channel to SD but how do I tell NPVR to use it for all the channels? Please don't tell me I have to do them all individually, there has to be a way to say use SD as the default EPG. I tried the "bulk map" but it did nothing (updated first channel, answered "Yes", nothing changed).

My next question is on channel mapping. I mapped one channel and did an EPG update, using SD. It did not display as I expected. In the initial scan KONG came up as channel 2 (left hand column in "Settings/Channels". When I changed the EPG to SD I also set the mapping to channel 6, the channel it uses on my cable providers guide. I expected to see the NPVR guide show channel 6, instead it shows 2.

Finally, in the channel list I see channel listings ending in things like _CL, _CLK, _HC, etc. What do those suffixes mean?

  Yet Another YouTube Video
Posted by: mvallevand - 2012-02-06, 04:21 AM - Forum: MVPMCX2 and other NMT stuff - Replies (3)

Here's another YouTube video on NextPVR http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xn_7KNp899g I really wanted to show off the genre highlighting and channel grouping to the NMT forum I think those are nice new features. Unfortunately I can't show the movie group playback because I used my HDPVR for making the video.

For the LiveTV playback, this video shows why I am so happy with HD video playback on my NMT. One of the things I show is the "Prev Channel" function between the rats and football, its only a couple of seconds. Some of the keystrokes are a bit odd because I moved my NMT and I was not pointing the remote where I am used to.

PLEASE READ: Reporting nDroid errors using Google Play
Posted by: bgowland - 2012-02-06, 02:21 AM - Forum: nDroid - Replies (1)

If the nDroid app crashes and you get an option to report the error using Google Play, please come to this support forum and create a post explaining that you've uploaded the report and what you were doing at the time of the crash.

The information uploaded during a crash report is a bit meagre to say the least. It's enough for me to identify the area of the software which failed but without knowing the full details, it's difficult to tell why the crash happened.

Cheers,
Brian

  Do I need additional hardware?
Posted by: Grapher - 2012-02-06, 01:45 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (10)

My trusty TiVo for nearly 7 years died on me yesterday, making me all sad-faced. Sad

Instead of paying an arm and a leg for a new one, I thought about looking for cheaper alternatives and stumbled upon this place. Open-source? Cheap as free? Sounds good!

Anyway, other PC-based alternatives that I found before coming here required additional hardware, like a box or a TV tuner card, but when I looked for installation instructions here, I couldn't find anything on this website.

I'm totally confused. Do I just install the software, or is there something I'm missing?

EDIT: I just noticed the System Requirements link, and it lists a tuner card as "optional." So, does that mean I can just install the software and be ready to go? That sounds a bit strange to me to be able to watch TV without needing something to send or receive a signal.

  MCE Remote Replacement
Posted by: Bathman - 2012-02-05, 04:57 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (2)

I've used MCE remotes for as long as I can remember. I like the feel. Anyway my second one is now on its last legs and I am looking for a replacement. The most important factors is that it has a good quality feel. It also must work with GBPVR/NPVR straight out of the box I can't be bothered with any of this HIP or Ghost buisness
