Like many of us the promise of a new release was exciting, although in my case v2.2.6 R1 was humming along quite nicely.
Initially when I saw the many snag reports that resulted from upgrading to the current version I became quite insecure.
But I figured, "What the hey, balls to the wall, Lets do this thing!"
So after stopping all NPVR things I put the upgrade through.
Everything is going as it should and I ran a few test recordings, no problems.
At 12:30pm I intitiated a transfer of funds to my PayPal acct. and come the 30th of this month I will be able to contribute to this awesome project (or at the very least it's fridge).
Since upgrade to 2.3.6, I have done multiple recordings with my DCR-2650 without the locking up problems I had previously, as described and fixed by these items from the change log.
Quote:- digital recording is now done 'out of process' to workaround an issue where digital devices could sometimes lockup when stopping recordings, requiring recording service to be restarted.
- fixed a problem that could cause a DCR-2650/Prime to indicate it was still in use even after it finishes with the tuner.
Now I get the occasional failed recording error message "No errors, but no data delivered. This is usually because the device failed to lock a signal". These recordings have a 0 byte .ts file.
I am also occasionally getting successful recordings, but that when played, do not have the full recording. The timeline shows the full recording time, but when played skips through to various spots in the timeline, and the file size is much smaller than it should be. It seems like it locks the signal and starts the recording properly, but then loses the signal off and on. I don't know if this is a similar issue to Sheik Yerbouti's post here today.
I've been having these problems with the DCR-2650, and prior to 2.3.6 they would lock up the recording service and/or tuner. Now that the locking up has been eliminated, how can I debug this problem?
Can nPVR tell when the tuner failed to lock a signal and try again?
Is my signal strength an issue? The tuner diagnostics show it is good.
I didn't gather the logs from when this occurred last night. Should I reproduce and provide logs?
Thanks for all the work on 2.3.6 for the DCR-2650.

I shouldn't have opened perfmon. When I start NMT the PC idles near 0 CPU and then I play a video it also runs very near 0. However when I return to the OSD menu it idles at unacceptable 36-40% CPU dropping to 0 if I play a video. The screen saver is not yet active and the only screen update is the time each minute. When the screen saver start it is about 30%.
When I play audio (before starting video) I only get 5% CPU and that include the 1 second update for the timeline in MusicBox4 and then it drops to 0 again when audio stop.
I've set up a few groups but seem to have come across a potential bug. After watching a channel in one of my new groups, it returns to the guide and shows the "all channels" group BUT it only shows the number of channels in my generated group. Its hard to explain so here's an example:
I have a News group which has 3 channels in it - BBC News, SKY News and BBC Parliment. So i select that group and the relevant guide is displayed. I then select BBC News and watch it for a bit. I then click exit and it returns to the Guide but shows me BBC One, BBC Two and BBC Three (the first 3 channels from the full guide).
I've tried it with a few others and it always does the same thing.
After making changes in my scheduledirect profile (in their site), I deleted all channels in NPVR. Then tried to update EPG. A message pops up very briefly, but no update is made and the channels list remains empty.
I run 2.3.6 release
edit: Ok... didn't remember: you have to re-import channels in capture device setup. But now : when I choose ScheduleDirect as my source, the list of channel to import is the old one and my new channels are note imported.
I have a dish with 3 LNB's and a diseqc switch. When scanning for channels in NPVR, I can usually only get channels from 19.2E. Unfortunately I don't know exactly how the dish and switch are set up, as this is at my office and they were installed many years ago on an inaccessible rooftop.
If I connect the dish up to a sky box, it immediately finds all the usual UK channels from 28.2E. If I then attach the cable back to the PC and scan 28.2E (using the single LNB setting), NPVR finds all the UK channels, and I can watch any of them. However, as soon as I tune into one of the channels on 19.2E I lose the ability to tune the 28.2E channels. I can only get this back by connecting the dish back up to the sky box again, and then to the PC.
It seems that the sky box is sending a signal which is operating the switch. Does anyone know, if/how I can get NPVR to do the same?
I'm using a hauppauge Nova S, Win 7 32, and the latest version of NPVR.
I've tried running the 28.2E scan using the 22khz switch settings, both using satellites A and B, and I've tried selecting 28.2E in each of the four slots with diseqc selected. I have not adjusted the LOF settings, as I can't seem to find any information on these that I can understand.
Any suggestions on how to get things working would be much appreciated.
