I have been a long time BeyondTV user but I am looking to migrate to a newer platform than supports the new and upcoming tuners. Found NPVR and would like to consider but had a few questions
1. Support for HD-PVR
2. SUpport for HDHomeRun
3. Support for Adaptec USB Dual Tuner AVS-3610 (not a important long term)
4. Support for USB-UIRT
5. Support HDHomeRun Prime
This is for a ystem that will be running 24/7 by a family of 4 so reliability is at a premium.
I am also looking at MediaPortal. I consider myself an expert user but getting the tuners I have to work with MePo was a bear. I am still not sure I ahve it configured correctly
GB-PVR (or N-PVR) are probably the only great freeware applications in the world which have the remarkable capability for users to utilize 04 TV cards simultaneously in a single desktop computer (as I am using myself; 04 Hauppauge PVR-150 PCI TV cards in my old Dell Optiplex GX270; a P4 machine with humble specs).
Now I am thinking of upgrading my desktop as its having too many processor speed and memory issues with heavy applications. However, many new desktops I have reviewed in the market and on the net have only 01 PCI slot (and probably one AGP slot).
Can you please provide any advice on how I can continue my multiple card usage through GB-PVR in a modern high end desktop computer?
I have had this happen twice. I let the system go to sleep,with a recording scheduled. When it goes to sleep, the DCR looses its connection to the PC. NPVR wakes the PC, and the DCR reconnects. BUT, it does not seem that npvr communicates with the tuners again. The recordings try to start and from the logs can tell there is a problem, but then think they have found the tuners and start recording. The problem is the tuners really are not active (their lights are not on at the DCR.) At that point, I can go in, kill the recording (zero byte files), and then to manually tune a channel. As soon as I hit WATCH, npvr locks up and I have to kill it from task manager. Logs are attached

This appears to be a DCR bug since it WMC can't find the tuner either. If I cycle power on the DCR it will then work.
My only concerns are that NPVR thinks it is recording when it is not, and it fully crashes when you try to manually tune under the "dead tuner" condition.
I will contact Hauppauge about the tuner resume issue

I found kind of a ticky tacky thing, but wanted to let you know. You have the feature where if a show (or channel) is not available you display a content encrypted message. Actually it is not always encrypted, it is just that you can't get it for some reason. If the cablecard is working, we should get the encrypted content we pay for. But I have a host of channels that are not available because of the switched digital stuff and get the same message. Just to reduce confusion of those that come along in the future, perhaps "Content Not Available" might be better.
I have been using ImageGrabLite for a while and have asked Martin if it is possible to also download fanart when the poster is downloaded. He's up for it only if NPVR has a subdirectory or two to contain them (perhap under media somewhere, one for movies and one to TV Series).
Therefore I'd like to see if something like that could be added to NextPVR sometime in the future. Thanks.
As mentioned in the other thread, it would be great to be able to use a dreambox as a network recorder.
My dreambox outputs .ts streams. These can be accessed via the box's web control page, where streams are kicked off via a stream.m3u file with content as follows:
This works fine in VLC, but to view streams on my NMT I'm currently using this Dreambox plugin: http://koti.mbnet.fi/devnull/suomipoeka/streamwebpage/ which generates another web page to be served from the dreambox with a direct link to stream each channel. These url's are exactly the same as the final line shown above, obviously with the /1:0:1:2871:800:2:11A0000:0:0:0 part replaced with a different identifier for each channel.
I would only want about 20 channels from my dreambox in my NPVR EPG, so I'd be happy to add the addresses manually, but I would have thought that some users would want to import many more channels. Would you be interested in coming up with a method of bulk-importing channels?
I'll be happy to do any testing, and please let me know if you need any other information.
I'm trying to set up Network Recorder (NR) to access the firewire tuner on Machine A to watch live TV on Machine B. I have the NR config file on B set to the IP and port of Machine A. When I try to watch on B, I get the ...please wait... and then a black screen. NRecord log snippet from B attached. It looks like B communicates with the tuner on A, but doesn't/can't write to the buffer directory on B. No file is created there. I have the buffer folder on B shared using the standard Win file sharing dialog, and everybody has read and write permission. I can see it from A and copy files to it using Explorer.
This is probably a sharing issue that I am too thick to understand. A "Peter Rabbit" explanation is needed, I think.
Installed Network Recorder on another machine today and had a similar problem as on my first machine (I didn't report it the first time as I missed saving the error message).
I use Schedules Direct and after importing the line-up on the Device Setup dialog for Network Recorder, I go to Channels and hit Update EPG. It gets the EPG data and saves it, then a pop-up appears saying "Checking for DVB/ATSC updates" followed by NPVR stopping with the attached error message. After closing NPVR from the error box, it restarts fine and everything is OK thereafter, including subsequent EPG updates.
I have a QAM tuner installed that also uses Schedules Direct which is working fine.
