  a few issues with NPVR
Posted by: asselin - 2011-01-17, 04:19 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

I upgraded my setup from GBPVR to NPVR this weekend, and generally it was painless. sub, I've been using GBPVR for about 8 months, and it's worked quite well; thanks for all your hard work on it.

I ran into a few issues with NPVR that I haven't been able to work out, and was hoping someone may be able to help.

1. I don't see how to do GBPVR's equivalent to "play all" in videos. This is absolutely crucial for kids videos Smile

2. I miss "shuffle" on videos from GBPVR.

3. The info button doesn't seem to work when playing back recorded programs or videos (this is on an MCE remote on Win 7). Other places in the GUI recognize Info fine, and CTRL-B works while playing back, but not the Info button.

4. Skipping forward/back doesn't display the timeline bar while you're pressing the skip button-- you let go, and it displays. Means you have to press & guess, and then let go to find out if you're right.

I ran into a couple of glitches too that I'm not sure I want to make a big deal of until I can come up with a reliable repro scenario. In case these may be known issues or they're of interest:

5. Recorded a 1 hr program that I added 90 mins to the end time. Started playing back while it was still recording, and the timeline was totally wrong (showed as several hours), and skipping around was way too short (i.e. 1 min skip was like 20 secs, although the timeline showed that it skipped 1 min). The timeline on the completed recording seems to be fine, except that the recording hangs at the 1 hr mark. Maybe the OTA recording recorded some garbage around 1 hr that messed things up?

6. I'm not sure recurring recordings are reliable. I used the searchlite plugin to make some recurring recordings, but even a forced EPG update, they didn't show up in the pending list. I noticed that the recurring recordings I scheduled with searchlite show up differently in the recurring list than ones I schedule from the Guide, so maybe this is a plugin problem. Need to investigate this some more...

Thanks again for all the work on this app, and thanks in advance for any help.

  nPVR + Touchscreen, any good?
Posted by: Elmo Putney - 2011-01-17, 03:15 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (10)

I have a sparkly new Kitchen extension that's just begging for a pc client to run npvr, iTunes and a browser.
At the moment I holding off for AMD fusion products to come to market for the box but I've also been looking at some of the multitouch monitors knocking around and I'm very tempted.
Currently 2 things are putting me off, firstly none of the monitors I've seen have HDMI (only DVI), this is not a deal breaker as it would be on a separate amp so I can live without audio coming out of the crappy built in speakers.
Secondly and more importantly I don't know what level of support nPVR + Win 7 has for touch screen input.....anyone tried it that would like to share their experience?

  Digiguide.tv UK - Bargain Price
Posted by: steeb - 2011-01-17, 02:32 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (50)

Dear all,

I just got an email from digiguide letting me know of bargain offer until the end of this month to subscribe for 1 or 2 years.

http://digiguide.tv/products/

I have been a user of digiguide for about 3 years now. They have very good listings and cover some channels that RT do not. If you like an XML EPG as opposed to an OTA EPG it makes for a very good source, and at this price it is a bargain Big Grin (and no I am not affiliated with them in any way, I just really like what they do Wink )

Used in conjunction with Alan Birtles most excellent XMLTVGUI and one extra file to enable importing into XMLTVGUI it is a very good choice for a UK based XML EPG source.

cheers

steeb

Failed capture device, device failed to start
Posted by: Engineer_Ted - 2011-01-16, 10:54 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (47)

When recording a show, I can't watch a second show (from analog or QAM). I have two Hauppauge 1950's plugged in, shouldn't have any issues watching a second channel...

But, when I try, I get "Unable find capture device" for a second analog channel (while recording a analog channel already) and when I try to watch a digital channel, I get "device failed to start".

I can watch recordings though.

AC3 Filter and poor skip performance
Posted by: Elmo Putney - 2011-01-16, 09:58 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - No Replies

I was about to post a support question...then I fixed my own problem so I thought I'd share if only to remind my future self.

The problem was watching recordings, the more skips I did the longer it took to carry out the skip (5 sec+) and would also eventually result in audio sync issues.

For some workaround that was reccomended way back on GBPVR I had "re-init sound card after skip/pause" enabled in the ac3 filter options.....nPVR don't like it much.

Over and out.

  PVRX2 oddities w/ component 1080p
Posted by: philly_phenom - 2011-01-16, 08:55 PM - Forum: MVPMCX2 and other NMT stuff - Replies (4)

I'm still kicking (semi) old school & running PVRX2, so I'll understand if you don't want to spend to much time looking into this, but hopefully something this is something that may have an answer off the top of your head:

We just replaced our bedroom set with an HD we had been using downstairs (which in turn was replaced with a newer set) set & thus switched the PCH from NTSC via composite to 1080p via component.

In a nutshell, the PCH A100 downstairs with the new set (1080p via HDMI) works fine, but the upstairs set (1080p via component) shows the menus in what looks like 720x480 in the upper left corner & neither the menus nor skipping work during playback. Unfortunately, due to the relocation, I had to switch to using a wireless bridge setup to connect the PCH, so that may also be in the mix (I can't really move it back to see if the wireless is the problem - if I find a really long patch cable, I'll give it a shot though if you think that may be the issue).

I've included my config.xml & starmeup, but I thought everything was correct. I never had issues with component hookup before when it was downstairs...

Again, if you can't spend much time on older software (w/ NPVR being out and all), I understand, but any ideas are welcome. I just upgraded to mvpmcx2 version o (was running m) but the problem persists.

  nPVR 1.5.36 with patches hung
Posted by: forzaKGB - 2011-01-16, 08:19 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (5)

Hi

I have had nPVR hang a couple of times, I run 1.5.36 with all current patches (have uised the ones in the sticky).

nPVR is installed on a PC with Windows XP sp3 (with all patches), two FloppyDTV (equivalent of FireDTV). No monitor connected to this PC, all viewing is done through a NMT A-110 with Martins mvpmcx2 (have installed the latest one and was running it during this event).

My son watched a movie about noon and when his friend got here he just pressed STOP on the remote and started playing. When we were about to start watching a movie just now the NMT had a black screen, I was not able to shut it down with the remote and was forced to close it down with the power-switch on the NMT.
Then I logged in to the recordings machine and tried a right-click in the status-icon. But I got no menu, after restarting the nPVR Recordingservice the right-click menu appeared. This has happened a few times lately but I did not have the latest patches installed and did not report it.

Another strange thing I noticed when checking the right-click menu. There are no programs shown under pending recordings under Status. But nPVR do record programs and the pending recordings do appear i NEWA, perhaps something is missing in my installation?

Using default PCH player to TS files is not working
Posted by: zaldwaik - 2011-01-16, 05:23 PM - Forum: MVPMCX2 and other NMT stuff - Replies (6)

I am trying to use PCH native player by default, but it does not appear to work. I am enabling

/etc/mvpmc/mvpmcx2 --mono-mpeg &

in startmeup file but it is still plays through NPVR. I recall this is working before. Using the USB button before play still works.

Thanks in advance

  NPVR Crash
Posted by: Elmo Putney - 2011-01-16, 04:30 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (5)

SUb,

Excellent work on nPVR, 1 week in after moving everyhting over to it and I'm still impressed. I am getting the odd black screen on nPVR (normally when my daughter presses random keyboard keys) ..and I was just ignoing it knowing that nPVR will get better as it ages with new releases, but then I thought I should probably report issues otherwise you'll never know they need fixing....

I was mid watching a recording and hit f1 to bring up the guide, found a new program hit enter to watch and it went black screen unresponsive. Looking at the logs what I didn't realise was that the wife was watching France 3 live on one of the NMT's.

Not sure if theres any clues in the logs attached, look around 16:04 today (16th)

ta and keep up the good work

  TV Listings 3.3 released
Posted by: alibert - 2011-01-16, 03:36 PM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (1)

Hi,

I've just uploaded a new version of the TVListings plugin at the wiki.

Changelog:

Quote:- added workaround for the buttonstrip always requesting render updates
- increased width for the timespan in the selected show details ui element
- added option to prefer descriptions from TheTVDB if available
- added quick jump navigation using the first letter of the title in recording lists
- added option to include existing recordings in 'Find More' search
- added alternative keymappings for paging up/down in recording lists
- implemented quick jumps in lists using the number keys to relative positions (0%, 10%, ..., 90%)

Please note the following when upgrading:
- NPVR 1.5.36 is necessary
- there's no need to overwrite an existing "TV Listings.db" database file during upgrade
- 'Find More' searches now automatically include existing recordings by default, this can be disabled in the configuration form
