Firstly really like the look of nPVR, however I don't have any analogue cards in the devices list, I have attached my Filter Log from GBPVR (the Leadtek works here), also I dont have analoguedevices.xml in my nPVR directory...should I?
I was given this older PC and am able to successfully capture video
via MS Media Center into .dvr-ms files.
My question is - can I use GBPVR with this hardware? According to
the label on the PC case it has a "hardware encoder" but I can't figure
out what model this might be. I came across a reference to:
Television
TV tuner card (supports Media Center MS-DVR, NTSC format and stereo sound, does not support HDTV)(HAUPPAGE M922)
but no model M922 appears under the GBPVR configuration.
Apart from opening the case, is there a way to figure out the capture hardware model?
I have been poking around the new database structure to update guidePlus and vidImport.
One thing they both do is a query on the database to get a list of upcoming or previous recordings that are TV series - for renaming and adding extra EPG info etc.
This was a very simple query before - Just look at recordings joined with the epg where the unique_ID starts with EP (at least with schedules direct data)
Now already recorded shows save their data in a field embedded in XML and these recordings have lost their unique IDs and a host of other data, so I would have to pull the epg_ID out of the XML link it the EPG table and hope that it is still in the there, then check if it is a series.
So, I guess my wish for this task is to see the unique program ID saved as a field for scheduled_recordings (which would also allow easily allow not recording dups again as well).
But in general it begs the question why so stingy with fields. If you don't want a titles data in the EPG after its time has passed why not just another table (completed_events/scheduled_events?) with a full set of fields that the scheduled_recordings could link to. Just my two cents but it seems the stored XML offers little in the way of advantage and limits what the database can do.
I've been using GB-PVR for quite a few years and it has been working well. But I bave been longing to move to nPVR for some time now, it is nice and more modern. Also looking forward to the .ts comskip/skipping advantages.
BUT, and this is a big but. Something must be wrong with my setup since most of the time (yes, it was working yesterday) nPVR cannot acces my two tuners.
Setup:
Windows XP SP3
2xFloppyDTV DVB-C cards with CA-module
nPVR 1.5.31 (with patches installed with Martins installer)
One NMT server started
As I said I have had GB-PVR installed (and it is still installed but had the Recording Service set to manual) but I am running nPVR right now. GB-PVR has always been able to access my cards and yesterday nPVR also had access to them and successfully recorded a show we watched on our A-110. Then I had forgotten about a backup script that shuts down the Recordingservice, does a RAR-file of the entire devnz to another drive just in case and then starts the Recordingservice (have been doing this every sunday night for a year).
And after the GB-PVR Recordingservice started I could not access the TV-cards.
I have tried to reboot the PC, I de-actived and activated the cards in Computer Manager and also in nPVR. But no success.
I even shut the system down completely and powered it up but no success, I only get a Device failed to start...
Any guess to where I should look?
I attach the logs from my last try (just after i did a cold boot of the system with GB-PVR recording Service set to disable).
I'd like to report some problems with NPVR 1.5.31:
1. DVD playback - with some DVDs I can't access DVD menu with mouse or keyboard, the only functional key is Esc, so I can't play some DVD with NPVR ( for example initial menu with language selection )
2. TV aspect ratio - this problem is also in another thread.
Monitor: 1366x768 16:9

When I select FILL mode, black rectangles stays at the top and bottom of screen
When I select Remove Letterbox mode, whole picture is moved to the top of screen and at the bottom of screen is big green rectantle
3. FM tuner with Hauppauge hvr-2200
Time-to time ( for example once a 5-15 seconds ) playing stops for about 0,1 - 0,3 seconds and then continues . Something like when I listen to internet stream radio with slow internet.
Maybe it is related to signal quality, because of stations with worse signal do it more significantly, than stations with better signal. But the problem is present also on radio stations with very good signal.
tested computer: AMD Athlon X2 235e , 4GB ram, Windows XP SP3
4. Channel list
Is it functional ? ILive tv -> right click -> channels
Nothing is done ...
5. Live preview mode & TV buffer settings
Will be this functionality present also with NPVR ? It is very usefull when watching TV signal through external set-top-box and connection between STB and PC is only through Composite cable.
Timeshift causes, when user changes channel on STB , he can see it at screen of PVR soft several seconds later ...
Also some settings about TV buffer would be nice ( max and min size of TV buffer, LiveTV pre-delay time )
I am so lost. What I want to do is set up my remote to control my DirectTV set top box. I'm using GBPVR and a random MCE remote. There are no drivers for this remote, apparently.
From what I can tell, I should use HIP to accomplish what I want. So I'm using these instructions, and everything is going perfectly until I got to the part where I need to Add a Value. The box comes up, says to press a key to continue, I press a key on my remote, and the LEDs on both the remote and the reciever flash, but nothing actually happens inside HIP. If I press the up/down/right/left buttons on the remote, it toggles focus from the cancel button, as if the remote is trying to control HIP instead of HIP registering it as something to map.
Since my initial setup of HIP, I've also noticed that my remote now controls gbpvr just fine for basic commands: volume, switching channels (in GBPVR only, of course), etc, all work. Play, pause, other dvd type commands do not work. Do I even need to continue this? I was assuming that after HIP is working, I can use Girder and have it control my set top box. Do I not need HIP? Can someone maybe point me in the right direction so I know what in the world I should be trying to research? I've been reading the wiki and searching the forums, but I haven't been able to find anything yet that makes sense to me.
Recently our cable provider removed several channels from our lineup and assigned new networks to others. But when the EPG update occurs these changes aren't being recorded in GB-PVR. There are many channels listed which we don't get any more, and other channels like 55 are showing up under their old name (MAX) instead of their new one (MASN), and there are no programs listed for the channel in the TV Guide view. I'm using GB-PVR 1.3.11 with native Schedules Direct.
If I go into the Configure I can't delete any channels from the listing. I tried erasing and updating the EPG and while new programs are listed for the unchanged channels, I don't get any of the channel changes. Is there some way to erase all the channels and just load a new fresh channel listing into the EPG?
