Freeview HD ( DVB-T2) tuners finally becoming available
Posted by: cosmocat - 2010-09-07, 01:31 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (44)

Hauppauge have just announced it at IFA.

The press release says...

The PCTV nanoStick T2 290e is on show at IFA and is exciting news for UK Media Center users in a Freeview HD area, who will be able to receive BBC HD, BBC1 HD (coming soon), ITV HD and Channel 4 HD via their PC. ... Available in the UK in October priced at £99.

More details are here....

Questions will be, what software will be needed and can it work with our favourite PVR system ?

Audio problems with NPVR while GBPVR is fine
Posted by: BigMoose - 2010-09-07, 01:02 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (11)

This is to try and summerise where I'm at with my audio issues in NPVR as I have comments and helpful responses in a number of threads.

My setup: win7 pro x64, ATI HD4650 (CCC10.8), Gigabyte 780G mb with onboard Realtek HD audio (using spdif out to receiver, latest Realtek drivers). DVB-S for UK FTA channels (hauppage HVR4000 and skystar2), DVB-T for Irish DTT channels (HVR4000).
NPVR 1.5.31, codecs - SAF (I installed the latest at the time last week, will check for a later one) - using ffdshow for audio (both mpeg1 and AC3 for live TV, plus others for video files/blurays), MS H264 decoder as none of the others play nicely since BBC HD went VBR. Either the MS or Cyberlink mpeg2 decoders as for a while ffdshow didn't work with npvr and I'm not sure it works now with DVD playback. I dont have issues with the video decoders though.

The problem: in nPVR the audio degrades over time. Watching an mpeg1 audio channel (e.g. BBC1) it starts fine but within an hour it is choppy (little drop outs very often, like every half second). I think the drop outs get longer over time and I notice after 45-60 mins. A pause/play cure (I think it gets worse again after another hour, but am not 100% sure). "crap" channels have noticeable drop outs from the very start of watching - although this has got better with later releases of npvr. So maybe these channels use a different bit rate to the "good" channels - I assume they use a worse bitrate. Note in GBPVR on the same box, same codecs has never had this problem.

Second problem (the same on GBVPR & NPVR): I do have sync issues on some channels but think that is down to the default bit rate option I choose in the audio driver (e.g. "CD quality 16 bits 44<whatever it is>, DVD quality at 16 bits 48....") - I can never remember which I should chose. Letting it code all PCM audio to DTS5.1 cures the sync issues, but I do get the odd drop out doing this.

Any advice/codec recommendations gratefully received!

NPVR-MULTIDEC: disabling recording of encrypted packets
Posted by: tmrt - 2010-09-07, 08:18 AM - Forum: Wishlist - No Replies

With NPVR MULTIDEC decryption works almost flawlessly except one thing. After tuning into a channel it takes up to 20 seconds to receive the decryption key. As a result I always get some tens of seconds of encrypted streams at the beginning of a recording, which interfere with MVP and post processing. It would be nice if there would be an option for disabling recording of encrypted packets into the recording file.

  DVB-C EPG update problem
Posted by: tmrt - 2010-09-07, 08:09 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - No Replies

I am trying to switch from GBPVR to NPVR, but I have some problems with EPG.

My provider transmits DVB-C EPG data for all channels on all transponders. However, EPG data for a longer period for a particular channel is transmitted only on a transponder which emits this particular channel. As a result I get (after EPG update) EPG data only for an hour for most of the channels, since succesive transponder scans obviously delete previously harvested data. Is it possible, as in GBPVR, to prevent complete emptying EPG during update?

Unexpected error trying to fix recurring recording timezone
Posted by: johnsonx42 - 2010-09-07, 06:40 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (7)

I'm getting a rather lot of these errors in my NRecord.log:

Code:
2010-09-06 23:00:02.606 [ERROR][6] Unexpected error trying to fix recurring recording timezone: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at NUtility.RecurringRecording.Load(Int32 recurrenceOID)
They show up in bunches after an EPG update, and one at a time when any recording starts. So far everything seems to be working otherwise.

  HD Homerun Scan
Posted by: ydekmekji - 2010-09-07, 02:22 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (14)

GBPVR seems to find about half the channels when it scans on the HD Homerun... i can't find but seem to recall that there is a way to add those channels.

for example, i'm trying to add 124.450, which shows up fine on the hd homerun viewer, but gbpvr can't find it.

  Season Recordings tab?
Posted by: b00sfuk - 2010-09-06, 05:40 PM - Forum: NextPVR Enhanced Web Admin (NEWA) - Replies (2)

Just update my GBPVR install to EWA v83 and there is no season recordings tab. Has this been removed now (can't find any mention on forums or wiki), I notice there are still entries for it in the themes directories? I know everything can be done from the recordings tab but I miss it. Thanks.

Scheduled recordings not showing up as pending
Posted by: pcostanza - 2010-09-06, 03:41 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (22)

I scheduled a few recordings using the TV Guide and set them to record weekly (season record). Usually, the guide turns that show red and it shows in pending recordings. For some reason, this does not happen for me in season record. It does show up in reccuring recordings only. If I forward to the time the show is set to record, the guide is not marked red.
However if I schedule a show as a quick record or 1 off recording, it does show up where it belongs and is highlighted in red as it should be.
I've not had this problem in earlier NPVR versions. Also, it appears that if I try to schedule a show on today or the next day, I don't have this problems. Only if I try to set a scheduled, weekly recording a few days out.
I'm not sure why this happens.
I should also mention that the System plugin also shows no pending recordings.

  Mygica USB HDTV stick A6808-W7
Posted by: tuckster - 2010-09-06, 02:34 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I am trying to add a second tuner to my legacy GBPVR configuration. Tuner is from meritline.com and appears to be from the Auvitek family. I am not able to get the bda drivers to work for this tuner. I am attaching my filtercheck log in hopes that someone can help me set this up.

Primary tuner is Hauppauge 1600 dual tuner pci card.
