Migrate to networked storage from local + replace VideoArchive -input on howto needed
Posted by: nia - 2010-01-03, 01:28 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Hi.

Going into my 6th year with GBPVR, I'm now facing my most comprehensive reorganisation/rebuild so far.

Situation
Situation is, that I have early made myself depending on Jeffs excellent Video Archive, that has unfortunately grown more and more inompatible, as it has sadly been undeveloped for years.

VA was necessary to support two things for me:

  • Move recordings to other local drives due to space issues. So I have recording directores on D: (Main); C: E: F: ...
  • Rename of recorded series, e.g. "104-Series Name-Episode name.mpg" located in folders like ".\Series Name\" or ".\1KidsSeries\Series Name" under the recordings directory.
Both of the above done completely manually, editing and moving files outside of GBPVR, and leaving it to VideoArchive to track the changes (which it does quite nicely).

Change
So - now I am in the process of setting up an unRAID server for unified network storage. The intention is to move all existing and all future recording into one "//Netshare/Recordings" folder (probably mapped to a drive letter like VSmile.

I currently intend to leave actual recordings to be performed locally on the GBPVR PC and then move the recordings to the server e.g. every morning after XMLTV update.

Questions
So, my questions and call for inspiration are the following:

a)
How do I best migrate the recordings from the current local drives managed under Video Archive to a situation where VA is no longer used, but GBPVR still recognises
  • original recordings moved to another folder than the original recordings folder still maintaining the original metadata (EPG info)?
  • renamed recordings in custom folder structures recognised and playable through GBPVR?

b) How do I manage the initial migration to the network storage includung the amendmendt of the GBPVR references to the recording files.
  • What would be the way to modify GBPVR database to point to the new location and successfully use it?
  • For recordings only known by VideoArchive (the files moved or renamed), how do I best import the metadata?

I hope to draw on previous experiences and knowledge of the current plugin and utilities as to what approach is recommended.

Thank you in advance for any input Smile

  ML2 installed but doesn't work
Posted by: spotty - 2010-01-03, 08:52 AM - Forum: Recording2, MusicLibrary2, SystemStatus Support - Replies (2)

I install ML2 by copying the files into GBPVR, enabled it in GBPVRS config and set some settings, but when I try to open it in GBPVR the computer freezes with the following error-
"Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
details as per attached file.
please let me know if/which logs you would like.

  No status balloons
Posted by: keith_leitch - 2010-01-03, 06:05 AM - Forum: Slimm GB-PVR and GBPVRcli - Replies (7)

Slimm no longer shows me status balloons when I "hover". More accurately, it shows me one--the next pending program--then I hear the little "popping" sound, but do not see any other information.

Xrecord doesn't comskip in Videos or Movies Screens?
Posted by: jksmurf - 2010-01-03, 04:30 AM - Forum: XSuite (Xrecord, XSearch, XGuide, CDK Scheduler) - Replies (2)

Hi fla,

Not sure if this is by design but I often archive movies in the Xrecord ready screen to a directory which I can then access via the Xrecord "Videos" or Xrecord "Movies" screen. It seems however from limted testing that comskip no longer works from either of those screens, despite the timeline bar showing comskip.

Is this by design, or should it work in the same way as the Xrecord "ready" screen? If by design would it be be possible to alter the behavior?

Cheers

k.

  Automatically Restore Auto Zoom
Posted by: crlorentzen - 2010-01-03, 04:19 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (2)

I find that I regularly watch maybe one letterboxed DVD, Use F7 to set it to remove letterbox, then I watch another show or movie which has the proper ratio set in the codec/container. Then I need to hit F7 to restore Auto. It would be nice if I could change a setting to configure PVRX2 to restore Auto zoom after exiting the existing playback.

MPEGs will not play after a clean install
Posted by: keith_leitch - 2010-01-03, 03:00 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (20)

After a clean install, I find that I am worse off than ever. I tried again to install the SAF, but even without any other codec packs present, it will not play MPEGS with one of my online TV players installed, so it is not an option for me. I then reinstalled what had worked for me before; QTAlternative 1.68 to handle MOV files, followed by the K-Lite Codec pack. I configured ffdshow exactly as before.

Many files play, including the Transport Streams generated by live BDA recording. However, certain MPEG1 files will not. These are the output of some of the online players I use, so I must be able to play them. PVRx2 actually crashes completely after a few seconds of trying to play them. MPC plays them fine. I haven't really installed anything else, yet.

One of the files I am testing with is a show that we watched successully and stopped halfway to go to bed, so I know that PVRx2 has been able to play it before. It was the next day that my system drive crashed.

I carefully registered (and unregistered) a few of the filters that I thought might have been on my system before (including MPV, which was definitely there and so I left it). I also registered (and unregistered) some of the more likely codecs with MPC. It occurs to me now that perhaps VLC installs some filters, so I will install it next.

However, I am no longer even convinced that this is a codec problem.

Wiki - Collapse Home & Manual?
Posted by: steeb - 2010-01-03, 12:32 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Documentation (legacy) - Replies (24)

What's anyone's view on this?

Currently wiki has been tweaked to give collapsible menu items from left nav bar. Homepage and Manual Contents have remained as a list.

Leave or also collapse?

Also anyone's view on current gbpvr logo top left?

Cheers

  Recordings not showing in menu
Posted by: pvruser - 2010-01-02, 11:20 PM - Forum: Slimm GB-PVR and GBPVRcli - Replies (10)

Hi,

I've been using Slimm GB-PVR and GBPVRcli for a while and i've noticed that lately SOME recordings are missing from the tray menu and they don't show up even after restarting the PC or the tray util. the auto-purge for missing recordings is disabled in the config xml.
The PVRX2 is showing and playing all recordings without issues. is this a known issue for which there's a quick fix? i'm using the latest 1.8 version.

Thanks!

How to uninstall ML2/3 to do a clean install of ML3
Posted by: jackyl - 2010-01-02, 02:58 PM - Forum: Recording2, MusicLibrary2, SystemStatus Support - Replies (21)

I have had a problem since I installed ML3 a while back. The database is populated, but the front end does not see any of the tracks. It has been unusable. I gave up based on the the app development stalling. As with the others, I miss the movement on the app, but fully respect and support the reason.
My issue is that I have not been able to successfully do a complete uninstall of ML to do a clean install of either version. They both show in the setup even when all the files are removed. Can anyone provide some guidance to correct this issue? I don't mind being guided through database changes, but I'm not strong enough there to do it on my own.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.
