Currently I have Hauppauge 150 on a Windows XP machine, I'm in the Bay Area with Comcast service, I plug the coax directly to the card, not using their box. Couple months ago, Comcast did some upgrade, and I haven't been able to record anything since, most channels are fuzzy and snowy or nothing at all. Since I can watch everything fine on our HDTV, I figure the card/system is in need of an upgrade.
The machine I have is not a media center, I don't know if this matters. I may upgrade the OS to Windows 7 in the future, so the card need to be forward compatible. I'm also looking to upgrade the rest of the system, as the current one is too old to handle HD.
I looked at the wiki list for supported card. Comparing it to cards and reviews on newegg.com, the list seem a bit dated, so I thought I would ask here to confirm:
It seems Hauppauge 1600 / 1800 may not the the best option? The review for Hauppauge 2250 is better, but it's not on the wiki list, what is your option?
The review for SiliconDust HDHomeRun is really good, but the setup seems strange. Does it mean I can record from any machine on the network (assuming they don't try to record at the same time)? Also does the dual tuner mean, I can split the coax cable and record/watch two channels? Is there any downside to this card not supporting NTSC/Analog?
Any other card you would recommend instead?

Well, I have been having on and off issues of screen tearing for a while. It seems like I get things working and a new movie comes along with an updated encoding and it tears. I have an older AMD 4200+ machine with an ATI 1650XT running driver version 8.33 that operates anything I throw at it just flawlessly. However, my main PVR machine has run the gamut of upgrades to try and make the perfect machine (ie; I'm trying to make one that has no problems with tearing).
I had an MSI MB with Geforce 5200FX. Worked most of the time but not quite powerfull enough on some HD content. Upgraded to an Abit MB with onboard 7050 video. Not quite powerful enough for some HD. Upgraded to an ATI 2400XT (passive cooling) video card. Had tearing. Upgraded HDD to new WD SATA2 500Gig from older SATA 200gig. Didn't help. Upgraded video card to ATI 3850. Had tearing problems. Upgraded MB to Asus with geforce 8300 onboard video. Still used ATI 3850 video card. Had tearing. I always maintained the latest drivers as they were released in the hope that one of them would make things better. Same with codecs. I then took out the ATI 3850 video card and installed the drivers for the onboard geforce 8300 video. Low and behold, no more tearing, even on HD content. I am elated. Hopefully it is not like many other times when a new video came along and tearing resumed.

I just built a new system so I could upgrade to HDTV. I'm using GB 1.3.11 with winXP Pro SP3 and a new HVR-2250 plus an older HVR-1600. In general, the analog side is working fine. But, I'm I have a number of issues with QAM.
I can record and play about a dozen clear QAM stations from my COX cable system. But, certain ones (CSPAN3) will not play. Strangely, I can record it and then watch the recording either during or after the show. Also, Transcode does not work for these files.
It seems like a filter is missing, but I have installed every MUX I can find and tried all 4 settings in the GB MUX config menu.
I use IR Server Suite to change channels on my Directv box. I just got Direct about a month ago, and relearned all the numbers. Checked it out, and it changed channels fine from the guide.
Last Sunday I set up some programs to record, and it recorded the wrong channels. I went into PVRX2 and tried to change from the guide, and again got wierd channel changes. It seems to be duplicating the 2 key. So if I try to go to channel 235, I get 223, and then 5.
I relearned the numbers into IR Server, and when I tested them they were fine. Went back to the guide and the same thing. This is on Win 7 7100 (no change there) and latest version og PVRX2. I am going to try to troubleshoot this later today, but thought I'd try to get some ideas to look for before I reinstall everything.
The "search iPlayer" button crashed gbpvr if using community skin 4 (CS4) skin. works fine with Blue. The plugin author smiler suggested that I post here.

I am having a few issues with using Two Hauppauge Tuner cards HRV-4000 & HRV-1300 togeather.

I edited the regerstry files and they have been woring fine togeather apart from my issues below.
HVR 4000 to watch DVBT and DVBS
HVR 1300 to watch DVBT and Analog
I have been having trouble recieving C4 on DVBT(signal strength or somthing) so i now use DVBS fine.
Heres the problem When I record a DVBT station GBPVR uses the HVR4000 no mater witch device number I assigne to it, then when I try to record a somthing on DVBS it needs to use The HVR4000 but it is busy recording DVBT.
I need to get the first recording device for DVBT to be the HVR1300.
Issue 2 when I get HVR1300 to be the first recording device, if i start to record DVBT and then i want to record Analog the HVR1300 will be busy?
Also When i am recording ether DVBT or DVBS using HVR4000 and try to record a second DVBT or DVBS it lets me and indicated that it is recording it on the EPG but can't record as the HVR4000 is busy.
when recording DVBT and start a second DVBT recording it uses the HVR1300 as you would expect.
Can anybody help me please.:confused:
My GBPVR crashes whenever I click on Search Guide. I can click on just about every other menu option, but that one crashes every time. It freezes on the menu screen. I've tried to reinstall GBPVR, but it doesn't work still. I've hopefully captured the right log files for you to review.
