I'm a researcher who studies media content. I would like to create a relatively inexpensive system that will allow me to capture video content while also storing the closed captions in separate text files. This system should have at least four separate tuners, and it should be possible to easily skip between searchable transcripts and the actual stored video.
There are commercial systems that offer this functionality, but they are extremely expensive (upwards of $18,000). I would like to come up with a shoe-string solution that delivers comparable functionality.
Is gbpvr a reasonable platform for this type of project? Is there another platform that would be more workable?
I've done a bit of programming in the past with C# and ASP.NET, and am capable of writing some of the code from scratch. However, if there are affordable widgets out there that would perform these functions, that would definitely be preferable.

Problem: All clear Comcast qam channels work well for me (over 50) except for channels in the 78 range (i.e. 78.1, 78.2, etc.). The video will be fine for 3 seconds, then freeze for 10-15 seconds, then work again for 3 seconds, and so forth. Everything in the 77 range works and in the 79 range.
Ideas?

Nvidia video and sound codecs (tried intervideo, too)

I live in SJ California and Comcast has finally acted on their elimination of the upper analog channels to make room for more digital content.
I've attempted to map QAM digital stations before and have had some success but it took quite a while just to do that. Last night I spent about 4hrs going through about half of the scanned stations and mapping some to known Comcast equivalent station ID's and some seem to be duplicates while others I've not yet had enought time to fully ID and half I haven't even had a chance to scan through yet.
Does everyone else have to spend the same amount of time to map issues as I do? If so, how long has it taken?
I've also noticed that since I last attempted, at least 2 stations are now using a different frequency than before. Will this be an expected re-occuring task that must be performed to stay in sync with Comcast and other providers?
I'm considering purchasing a PCH 110 and had a question about using an analog TV as I currently use the MVP to get the signal to the TV.
Will the PCH 110 be able to play Digital SD and Digital HD on the analog TV using the SVideo out on the PCH? Being I have an analog TV, will the PCH 110 be able to play both HD and SD at a lower resolution to the analog TV? Or would I only be able to view SD?
I am just starting to get GbPvr to run on my PCH. I installed mvpmcx2 via CSI and also updated the GbPvr files on my server with the NMTInstaller, and most things seem to work OK. I'm really impressed with the interface, speed, etc. One thing I seem to be having a problem with is the OSD. When watching a recording, if I hit pause sometimes I will get the OSD at the botton of the screen, sometimes not. But I never get the timeline display at the top of the screen. Anyone have any ideas?
This is really directed at the BBC iPlayer Downloader team. Good job on that guys, nice plugin. However, how about an option to just stream stuff from the BBC? I know it will probably only work if you use your server as a client, but there are a fair number of us out there with that setup. If it doesn't require massive rewrites, it'd be a nice addition to your plugin!
with a simple reg change i changed my mce remote to send control-b and F7 for aspect on the # and * keys...with no software loaded!
no HIP, eventghost, IRremote.ini, nohing to startup, nada...
basically there's a scan code translation table that windows uses and is in the irbus.inf that provides all that's needed to send the keys you wish...
that and the translation table of key codes possible..
so far i've just done those keys as proof of concept but i will be making a complete .inf with as many keys mapped as possible...
and post instructions on how to modify it for your own customizations...

to install all that's required is a click on the .reg select 'import into registry'...
this only works with mce remote selected in gbpvr config app, and if pvrx2 has focus...
to this end, [SIZE="3"]i just figured out a way to start pvrx2 and/or re-acquire focus![/SIZE] [SWEET!] make a shortcut to pvrx2 on desktop, and set a hotkey for it [i use ctrl-alt-p] and use that as power button send code...
[also starts pvrx2 if it's not on already..]
Some folders in Video Library, and perhaps some recordings too, may have content that are not suitable for children. There should be a function for specifying a pincode that must be entered before the folder is allowed to be opened/watched. This code can be specified in the Folder tab in config app, ie. if no code is given gbpvr will not ask for a pincode when attempting to open a folder.
