  Where to go from here.
Posted by: risingfish - 2009-05-30, 06:14 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (20)

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble getting GBPVR up and working and would like some direction.

My system is:
Hauppage 2250
Gigabyte GAMA78GM-S2H w/ AMD 4400

I'm starting off with a fresh install of XP with the latest drivers for each of the items above. I'm using Schedule Direct for my EPG info for my local Digital Cable provider Cableone.

GBPVR recognizes the 2250 fine and the EPG downloads fine. Unfortunately, none of the channels stay enabled when I try to save the settings. Do I need to map each individual channel the EPG station? If so GBPVR does not seem to be able to parse the channel information being send down from Cableone. Every channel shows up as Unknown. Sad

I hope this makes sense. Thanks!

Transcoding, COMSKIP and the GPBVR database
Posted by: serafis - 2009-05-30, 05:30 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (8)

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I'm recording NZ Freeview in .ts format (mux'd H.264 / HE-AAC) which takes up heaps of disk space, and COMSKIP doesn't seem to work either.

I've been experimenting with using postprocessing.bat to run HANDBRAKE to transcode to ffmpeg4 or xVid / mp3 in a .AVI container, and that part of it seems to work pretty well.

However, this raises two questions:
1. Will COMSKIP work on an AVI file if I run it in postprocessing.bat after the transcoding? Or do I need to transcode to MPEG2 first, then run COMSKIP, then transcode to mpeg4/MP3?
<edit> I suspect the answer to this is that COMSKIP only works on mpeg recordings but would appreciate confirmation of this</edit>

2. Is there a way of pointing the GBPVR databse at the transcoded file rather than the original .ts recording? I know GBPVR has this as an option if you set it to auto-transcode, but auto-transcoding doesn't work with H264 / HE-AAC .ts recordings. So I was wondering if there's a command I can run to do this in postprocessing.bat?

Thanks for any help.

  CableCard Tuners Closer ???
Posted by: blacks1093 - 2009-05-30, 05:30 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

About a year ago I posted an inquiry about cable card tuners and wether anyone had any info on them and wether it would work with GB.

I got responses stating that it would never happen and (for the most part) just forget i even thought about it.

Well, over the past year i have continued my investigation on this topic and it seems each time i find more info that makes cable card use in custom HTPC's more of a reality.

ATI Has the OCCUR which is OEM HTPC only, CETON group unveiled and internal Cable Card Tuner (also to be OEM use from what i have read).
Then I stumbled upon this:e

http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/05/12/how...ia-center/

It seems that it is still limited to Vistas MCE version but the OEM bios issue seems to be overcome at this point.

I have not read the article in detail (working on 2 hours sleep), But i just glanced at it and got so excited that i forced myself to post this!

Maybe soon GBPVR will support this? Or what if you ran it with a virtual machine somehow to overcome the necessity of needing MCE to "unlock" the card. well then i suppose the card resources would be used be that virtual machine....Delirium is setting in! Time to sleep!

Thoughts? Comments? Info?

Thanks everyoneBig Grin

  MovieWiz with TV shows
Posted by: acb - 2009-05-30, 01:51 AM - Forum: SearchWiz & MovieWiz - Replies (1)

Hi there - is there a way to group TV shows into their own directory or the like? At the moment each individual episode is listed along with movies, rather than, say, just a directory "30 Rock" being listed containing all the episodes for 30 Rock being shown (or even a Series I, Series II, etc further tree)

I read that there isn't a directory feature yet, though is there some other way of doing this in practice? How do others manage tv episodes? would prefer not to have "30 Rock" etc as categories

Many thanks and apologies if there is something really easy that i'm missing

  XBox 360 vs. NMT
Posted by: tuckster - 2009-05-29, 05:34 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (12)

Wow, after 105 views and no replies I am going to alter my question and see if I can get some kind of discussion going on this subject.

Has anyone used an Xbox 360 as a media center extender? How did it work and what did you like or dislike about it? Does the XBox allow for viewing of live tv? Are there sound quality/surround sound issues? How is the WAF?

For those that are using Popcorn Hour or other NMT devices with GBPVR, what do you like or dislike about the setup? Is it slow, does it crash much? How is the WAF?

  Laptop Client or HTPC?
Posted by: Suricatta - 2009-05-29, 04:00 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (18)

Hi,

I have spent the best part of a day investigating whether to go for a Laptop Client or build a HTPC

I have about £400 ($600 US) to spend.

I quite fancy a laptop client but I have few questions

If a laptop will work as a client, what's the minimum spec I need?
Can you set up a remote with it?
Would the fan be too noisy? I want it in my living room

If the laptop is a non starter can anyone recommend a case, it needs to be black and slimish and preferably less than £100.

Thanks in anticipation.

  1080p24 support
Posted by: mvallevand - 2009-05-29, 12:16 AM - Forum: MVPMCX2 and other NMT stuff - Replies (1)

I just had a PM about 1080p24 support, please try and ask questions on the public forum.

Anyway since mvpmcx2 can't support 1080p24 files and these aren't typical broadcast mpeg-ps/ts quality anyway I made the decision not to support it directly. Specify
-m 1080p on the command line to overide an unsupported option. Only PAL/NTSC and 50/59/60 Mhz are currently supported.

When mvpmcx2 plays mkv, avi's, wmv and m2ts (when GB-PVR supports these) formats these files will be passed to the NMT player and play properly with the higher settings.
