Random reboots
Posted by: gazoo - 2009-05-13, 10:48 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (14)

Ok, you were all very helpful last time about my server so I thought I'd ask you about my client hardware trouble.

My client has become unstable lately. I was starting to blame gbpvr but it started messing up no matter what I was doing. I get random reboots. They also leave NO LOG TRACES ANYWHERE (gb or system or anything). The screen goes temporarily black with about 4 lines of indistinguishable writing at the top (like a does window or POST screen). Things typically get really nasty unstable right before it does it too (like IE or taskbar lock up for a few secs.)

It's not heat, all within norms. It's not an underpowered supply, it's way higher than it needs. It could be bad memory or failing supply, but I was curious to see what everyone thought or if these exact symptoms had happened to anyone.

I don't leave the machine running ever, but I do leave it on for extended periods in S2 sleep (where it keeps the ram powered up only.) It's on a APC UPS. The specs are in my signature under client.

thanks.

  [DEV] Additional themes for CS4
Posted by: Hairy - 2009-05-13, 06:21 AM - Forum: Community Skin - Replies (36)

Guys, is it okay if we add any additional themes to the existing SVN and would it be possible to mirror the current set-up. By that I mean, currently I just place any graphics/formatting in their relevant folders and compile the installer scripts. Could we do the same for additional themes?

A folder structure like:
[Additional Themes] => Theme name (eg Reflect) => CS-SD => install
-----------------------------------------------------------=> plugin
-----------------------------------------------------------=> skin

------------------------------------------------=> CS-WS => install
-----------------------------------------------------------=> plugin
-----------------------------------------------------------=> skin
with some sort of reusable generic installer script that compiles each version (SD+WS).

That way I could just add the relevant files and compile the scripts.

Thoughts?

  Help me set this up...
Posted by: mi1stormilst - 2009-05-13, 02:45 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

please... I am new here and I don't understand the channel setup, what is this XML file that is required and why do I have to pay $20.00 for it? I own Beyond TV and I am looking for an open source alternative but the setup on this product is far more complex then about every other PVR software I have used to date. I would like to try it out but the documentation has me confused on this point and I don't appear to be able to scan for channels anywhere?

Hauppauge 1800, Windows XP Pro, Over the Air HD

Thanks

  TV Guide Page Skip - Is this possible ?
Posted by: cliff dweller - 2009-05-12, 09:30 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

I have been trying to get the TV Guide to shift (right or left) a page at a time. At the moment I have to use my (right or left) shift button to move a program at a time. I'm sure there must be a way to do this, perhaps already discussed on this forum but I can't seem to find it. Any ideas please ?

  Live TV plus recording from one DVB tuner
Posted by: SimonB - 2009-05-12, 08:16 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Perhaps someone can help me here. I'm looking to move from my Nebula setup which has served me well for years. One question is puzzling me about GBPVR.

With my existing setup, I have always been able to record several channels at once from my two DVB tuners while watching live TV, e.g. watch BBC1 while recording BBC2 and ITV. So long as I don't need more than two multiplexes on the go at once I am OK.

I know GBPVR will record more than one channel at once from a single multiplex with a single tuner but the documentation seems to suggest that watching live TV takes up the whole of a tuner and any recording at all, even from the same multiplex, has to be on a different tuner... which would make the above example impossible to achieve with just two tuners.

Is that the case?

... or I suppose I could add a third tuner.

Thanks.

  Haupauge remote: sluggish response
Posted by: teookie - 2009-05-12, 06:49 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (9)

I have the 45 button (I think) remote that comes w/ the non-Media Center edition HVR-1600. For the most part, it works great. One thing that is kinda buggin me though is that the system seems to ignore key presses from the remote occasionally, and/or it responds very slowly. It's the kind of delay that makes you try again but push the button harder - even though that really doesn't do anything. Smile

The keyboard works great, and I can scroll around the menus at light speed. But I can't scroll through anything quickly or make reliable key presses with the remote 99% of the time.

During the brief period of time that I had media portal installed, I experienced the exact opposite problem with that software: the remote was so sensitive that it was hard to scroll up or down just one line (in media portal). This leads me to believe that it is a software issue causing my remote to work poorly in GBPVR

Anyone know how to adjust the responsiveness of my Haupauge remote?

  Lip sync - once and for all
Posted by: gkreis - 2009-05-12, 05:29 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (18)

I'd like for this thread to be an education on the issues behind lip sync problems. My old analog card never had lip sync issues, but QAM with my HVR-1600 is driving me nuts. On one station (PBS 1080i) it is dreadful, but on NBC (1080i) it is working well.

I know from reading threads in this forum that the combo of video and audio codec can make a difference with lip sync (not sure why) and I have experienced that. So I have used a combo (Cyberlink defined as default video codec) and the default audio codec. But I still have the erratic recordings that are out of sync. I am recording in dvr-ms, fwiw.

What is the best way to confirm where the problem is at? For instance,

1. How I can find out the actual codecs being used during playback. Can PVRX2 show them in an OSD during playback?

2. Does playing back on a PC using VLC or WMP help diagnose if there is a difference?

3. Is the lip sync issue at record time or is just a playback problem?

4. Does using 'watch' from TV Guide handle the sync issues differently than if you record it?

  Free Disk Space bevor recording ?
Posted by: Captain-DJ - 2009-05-12, 04:07 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (3)

Hello!

I want to know the free diskspace is enough to record a show.
I have found an utility here, but this only get the free disk space and compares it with an value that i have give before.

It could be an value in the GBPVR setup. First you make an record, manualy of 1 minute (or 10 minuts) and you have the filesize (so you can manualy edit the value, i think it will be differrent between codecs)
With this, GBPVR callculate the filesize for the scheduled records.
If the free disk space is lower, GBPVR shows an popup, when you go to the recordings menue, or when you start GBPVR ?!

I think this is a good (and simple) idea ?!?

  recordings improvements (group, transcode)
Posted by: K.S. - 2009-05-12, 01:57 PM - Forum: Wishlist - No Replies

sub,

what's the chance to see the following improvements/development regarding recordings? Big Grin

1. rather trivial: transcode button (either on the left side menue or more convenient as an option for each recording like play/resume/etc...)

2. group recordings: at the moment, shows are grouped under the show name, with more recordings, the resulting list gets long & bothersome. would be great to be able to bring some order in that list like the following (and reduce list length to 1/3rd or even less):

- children
- pocoyo
- disney micky mouse wonderhouse
- sesame street
- cooking shows
- lanz kocht
- jamie oliver
- documentary
- terra X
- BBC whatever
- infotainment
- makeover shows
- house improvement shows
- entertainment
- harald schmidt show
- who wants to be a millionaire
- american/german/whatever idol
- movies
- indiana jones "trilogy"
- Star Wars
- Star Trek
- Million Dolar Hotel
- Snatch
- Fight Club
- shows
- CSI NY
- crossing jordan
- desperate housewives
main features needed: while scheduling a recording, ability to set a group (i.e. children/cooking shows/documentary/movies) with an behaviour like that: select group children => recording gets grouped like at the moment, but not directly under recordings, it gets in the group children. default behaviour: no group set, grouping like at the moment. icing on the cake: being able to change group & in that way move the recording around in the recordings tree Big Grin

3. if you found 2. interesting, why not add one additional level (group/subgroup/show name group) & make it possible to add/delete groups via GUI Wink
