  Setting up freesat
Posted by: hatterman - 2009-04-14, 01:59 PM - Forum: Hardware - No Replies

Hi.

Been using GBPVR for a good while now, and its working great. I'm about to rid myself of subscription cable and a set top box and opt for freesat.

I'm a radar engineer by trade so have no problems at all about installing this myself. I've done my research and think I know what I'm doing (famous last words !!).

Wouldn't mind anybody pointing out anything thats glaringly obvious if I've got it wrong.

I will be installing :-

2 x Hauppauge Nova-S cards.
1 x Motorised dish with dual LNB.

The Nova-S supports Diseqc 1.0 (I'll make sure my motorised dish supports this spec also).

My questions are quite simple really, but it's always the simple things that catch you out hey !

Question 1. How do I configure the diseqc side of things with GBPVR. ?
Question 2. Now that I will have two capture cards do I just configure a second capture source, then select which one to use each time I make a recording ?
Question 3. Any recommendations for the dish. What size do I need ? (I'm currently reading about dish sizes and types, but have posted this question anyway).

**Its the motorised dish control that I'm particularly struggling with.

Any comments would be GREATLY appreciated, and/or point me towards any relevant posts here. I have searched through them but any finely tuned guidence will again be appreciated.

Thanks alot.

Chris.

Different versions between client and server?
Posted by: gazoo - 2009-04-14, 01:47 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Can the server be 1.2.x and the client be 1.3.x? Will that make things worse? I'm having some crazy crashing and thought I would just upgrade the client first but I'm afraid it won't work. Does the version mismatch cause any problems?

  QAM scheduling questions with Xrecord
Posted by: arkennedy75 - 2009-04-14, 11:25 AM - Forum: XSuite (Xrecord, XSearch, XGuide, CDK Scheduler) - Replies (1)

I’ve been using two 150 MCE’s recording analog signals for several years with great results. I use the scheduler in the Xrecord plugin to record shows. I’m thinking of making the jump to digital by adding a HVR-1600 or HVR-1250 to take advantage of QAM recording capabilities. Ideally I want the digital tuner to record as many shows as possible. I have a couple questions:

1) In the Xrecord scheduler I can select a tuner for a specific show. If I select the digital tuner for a specific show, does that mean it will ONLY record with the digital tuner or is that tuner just the “first choice”?

2) Currently I have 1 min pre-padding and 2 min post-padding setup for all shows. If I record two shows back-to-back on the same channel, the first show will record on tuner 1 and second show will record on tuner 2 due to the couple minute overlap because of the pre/post padding. I would like to record both shows with the digital tuner. Is this possible? Would I need to setup specific pre/post padding for each scheduler entry?

I’m curious others experiences scheduling digital tuner recordings as much as possible. Thank you.

Does gbpvr keep track of client playback. not sure if this is by design but when watching shows from the client, it does not remember my position, Is it supposed to be like that or is there something i need to set for it to work

  Export Recordings
Posted by: steeb - 2009-04-14, 12:27 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (1)

For me, being a bit less than diligent sometimes.

If doing an export of recordings D-Base before a rebuild of my system an option where to save the recording dump other than straight back into GBPVR folder?

Currently just dumps the dump into default folder, an option to put it somewhere else?

Cheers

Steeb

  Standby Problems - Twinhan Driver
Posted by: gf404 - 2009-04-13, 11:55 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (1)

I have been trying to track down a problem that prevents standby on my gbpvr server. It looks as if it is related to a Twinhan card running with V1.2.2.7 drivers. When I disable the card, standby functions as it should.

Has anyone else come accross this problem or similar and found any solution (or a driver that behaves correctly)?

system reboots or shuts down with second drive
Posted by: Andrewh - 2009-04-13, 10:17 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

This seems to have just started happening, or at least this bad.
I was running the last version and kept coming in to find the pvr was turned off.
Running xp sp3.
I though I might have buggered something up, so I re-imaged my machine back to when it was first working. Then I upgraded to the new version 1.3.11.
Everything seemed to be fine. But the settings were different, and my library drive was not part of the configuration.

Now I noticed in the previous version, and in this one, that if I have GBPVR loaded, and I try to do things to the files, the machine dumps and reboots, or shuts down. Same thing here, if I move a file, or start the defragger, I get a reboot.

I have 2 hard drives in this machine. The second one is a 500 gb drive I use as my video library. I transfer files over to it if I want to keep it from the main recording drive.
When I added this drive back to the library drives, periodically something must be accessed, because it shuts the machine down after about 40 mins.
If I play something from the library, it dies in about 5 min or so.

I cannot get any logs because it powers down first.

I am in the process of testing all the pieces of the machine incase it is a hardware issue, but so far everything has tested fine by the manufactuer's diagnostic tools.

Just wondering if this was a known issue I missed, or if someone else has seen it.

  Proper file format for PLAYSTATION3
Posted by: rorys - 2009-04-13, 10:03 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

Program works great. Saves to file (mpeg) on hard disk. Using Windows Media player for the Playstation to read files. Select file and try playing recorded program, and it plays for about 5 seconds, and then stops. Start it again, and it plays for about 5 seconds and then stops.
Does anyone know what file setting / format I should be using for Playstaion 3.
I thought the mpeg format would work fine, but does not, or is there other setup issues I have missed.

Thank you,
