Guys

I am running a GB-PVR from a Popcorn Hour A-100 in the lounge. My Windows Home Server runs GB-PVR and provides video, music and photo storage. House is fully networked with CaT6.

This all works fine, although obviously I cannot watch or record TV through it. There are numerous problems trying to install TV cards on WHS so I am very tempted to purchase the HD Homerun device which has just become available in the UK (£159).

The family currently use a reliable HDD recorder in the lounge (TVOnics DVR-250 http://www.tvonics.com/digital-tv-recorders/) but all the recordings are 'stuck' on the HDD and not available anywhere else in the house.

Will my set-up with the addition of the HD Homerun tuner provide as good as, if not a better, set-up for the family as I currently have?

With 4 children my budget is tight so I need convincing!

Thanks

Mark

Logitech Harmony 676 Universal Remote (Refurbished) $44.99

I'm wondering how these stack up to, say, a 520? ($39.99)

Use an external USB drive for storage?
Posted by: dewchugr - 2009-03-02, 04:43 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (6)

I have a dell server I am using for my dvr and I currently only have 2 72gb drives in a raid mirror. I want to add a larger drive for storing recordings.

Are there any issues with using an external USB drive for recording to or is it best to avoid this?

  HIP + Recording Troubleshooting help
Posted by: vskatusa - 2009-03-02, 04:25 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Hi,

I have a microsoft MCE remote (and receiver) + GBPVR version 1.3.7+ HIP.

The "channel changer" MOSTLY works using TV guide as well as LIVE TV. MOSTLY works needs explanation. Let us say I select CNN from TV GUIDE which points to channel 205 - Sometimes the "channel changer" changes the channel to 20 and then the channel 5 is played! I am not sure how to fine tune the timing of the IR blaster! After 2 or so attempts, the "channel changer" works! I have no idea why!

However, when I set GBPVR to record, it records ONLY the the last channel I viewed. In other words, the "channel changer" does'nt seem to change channels!

I need help to troubleshoot this problem and any help would be much appreciated!

Let us say I have programmed channed 4 and 5 to be recorded using TV Guide and Last viewed channel was 7. The recordings has that of channel 7 only and not channels 4 and 5!

  Missing Codec?
Posted by: pduncan67 - 2009-03-02, 04:17 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

I have a video that plays fine on other computers. When I try to view it on my GBPVR box I get audio only. I tried to open it w/ WMP to grab the missing codec, but WMP can't find or download the appropriate file.

Is there an easy way to tell what codec the video is requesting (and I am missing)?

Just got back to GBPVR after a year and a half hiatus from having a PVR machine. Am noticing slower movements as compared to before. The Wiki is outdated and I was wondering when it was last updated and whether it is still up to date to the latest version (1.3.11 as of this writing).

  GBPVR and WIndows 7 (x64)
Posted by: pgoelz - 2009-03-02, 01:12 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (25)

I've been playing around with the Windows 7 beta (x64) as a dress rehearsal for transitioning to a 64 bit OS. So far, so good. In fact, I'd buy Windows 7 right now if it was available.... it is that good.

GBPVR installs and runs perfectly from what I can tell. However, my Windows 7 machine is a client (the server is an XP machine) and I have yet to read up on the new networking procedure for Windows 7. Until I figure out how to make Windows 7 see XP shares and vice versa, the client can't see the server over the network yet.

But I did discover something very interesting.... although the XP server share isn't visible on the Windows 7 machine, the Windows 7 machine DID find all the GBPVR recordings on the XP server. They show up in a folder on the Windows 7 machine under my username called "Recorded TV". WMP plays them perfectly. But here's the interesting bit.... if I delete a recording from "Recorded TV" on the Windows 7 machine, it gets deleted from the XP machine as expected.... but it also no longer shows under "Recordings" in GBPVR on the XP machine. Does that mean that Windows 7 is manipulating the XP machine's GBPVR database or is GBPVR manipulating the database when it sees the file get deleted? I'm positive that the last time I deleted a recording from the GBPVR recordings share using Explorer on an XP client, the recording still showed up under "Recordings" in GBPVR until I also deleted it via GBPVR. ??

Paul
