schedule recordings not in guide but have been
i have 7 days ahead guide data
say i record a program today when i finish watching i think yeah i want to do a season recording but im going away.So i cannot schedule the recording because i dont have the data for next week
what would be cool is if you can go to search guide pull up the name and set it to do a season record if that program comes up again in the guide

OK. I've tried and perhaps I'm too much of an amature but after hours of reading posts in this forum I'm thoughly frustrated and confused. :eek:

I have been a GBPVR/MVP user for years without any issues (MCE500 card).
I recently purchased a new PC w/Vista, quad proc, 2gb mem, 750gb HDD, 256mb ATI card and a Hauppauge HVR 1250 card. (It's a Dell - I work there.)

I have mapped the QAM channels and they show up in GBPVR TV guide perfectly. I watch them on the pc and they are fantastic. I thought I had audio when I first set eveything up last week but after being out of town this past weekend I can't really remember and now tonight I do not hear any audio.
I record a show and the video plays back perfectly but without sound.
I suspect this:
a. TS Mux
TS files will need to be transcoded to run with GB-PVR. The default TS file conversion setting in GB-PVR will not work for HD recordings or when the audio is not MP2/3.
But I don't understand what this means.
On the Processing tab of GBPVR config I have selected auto-convert TS to Mpeg-2.

Now on to the MVP. I have installed the mvpmc dongle and everything loads on the MVP just fine. I see the tv guide and other menus. No live TV (I don't care). The video recordings don't even play back - no video or sound (I care... a lot).
I suspect this:

No good solution for m2ts files yet either.
4. Why do I hear no sound or sound that is badly out of sync?
The MVP only supports MP2/MP3 audio. AC3 and AAC audio are not supported. mvpmc will attempt to play AC3 audio but the video will vary from watchable to objectionably out of sync.
But then the FAQ says this:
14. What ffmpeg setting do you use for transcoding?
The GB-PVR defaults, except I use the NTSC settings for TS files.
I really don't get that.
One other note: All other features work great - internet radio, photo slide shows etc.

One of the coolest things about GBPVR/MVP for me has always been comskip. The worst thing has always been the video quality. Now that I have HD TV's and found QAM channels (I'm too cheap to pay for the converter box) I'm in heaven. But with 3 kids I NEVER get to watch my shows in real time - much less care to with commercial breaks.

Tell me I have to put my old tuner card into my new machine and live with poor quality recodings I'll do it. I just want to make sure I have no options before abondoning the QAM quality recordings I could get with the HVR1250 card first.
I get that the best output would only be S-video (using he MVP), but this is what confuses me:

Since the MVP only does SD it can be no better than DVD quality. It is pretty much guaranteed that on-the-fly transcoding will stutter at times no matter how good your server is in 2008 anyway but I do feel that ffmpeg and meconder can be configured to create video files that are nicer than the eqivalent SD analog recordings.

I would be THRILLED with DVD quality playback! My video recordings with the old card are at best the quality of ancient VCR recordings of TV shows off of rabbit ears that have sat in the garage for 14 years.

All I want to do is have better recordings than I used to with my old card and enjoy my 24, Lost and American Idol. Sorry for the novel I've written but I could really use a bit of hand-holding right now - or at least a swift kick in the...

My system is pretty slow to load the TV Guide after it's started up. With almost 1000 cable channels and 14 days of EPG data, there are over 142,000 rows in the gbpvr database's PROGRAMME table. On my system it takes about 6-8 minutes for the EPG data to fully load.

Now it just so happens that my cable system's HD channels are all in the 900-999 channel range and being spoiled to HD, more often than not when I'm starting up pvrx2 on my system - either PC or PCH - I'm then waiting almost that full 6-8 minutes for the guide to load so I can watch an HD channel. Frustrating, especially because the PCH's other features have me getting in and out of gbpvr more often now.

So tonight while poking around in the gbpvr database I noticed an opportunity to improve this. Figuring that the long load time was due to gbpvr needing to look up program information one channel at a time in start_time order, I added an index on PROGRAMME's channel_oid and start_time fields to see if it would help. The performance improvement was dramatic. The entire EPG data loads now in approximately 10 seconds!

The new index added approximate 6 meg to my 50 meg database and I'm sure it will slow down the EPG load some, but it seems well worth it.

Here's the index statement I used:

create index programme_epg on PROGRAMME (channel_oid, start_time)

For anyone else who might be interested in trying this, but doesn't now how:

• Let's assume sub doesn't point out a problem with doing this and I don't post back tomorrow explaining my overnight EPG load ran for 36 hours.
  
• There are a few free tools available for accessing SQLite databases. I downloaded the tool SQLite Database Browser.
  
• Shut down the recording service and exit gbpvr.
  
• The database is in the gbpvr install directory, called gbpvr.db3. Copy this file to a backup that you can restore in case you screw it up.
  
• Open the gbpvr.db3 database using the database browser.
  
• In the Execute SQL window, run the following command:
  

• Save your changes and exit the database.
  
• Restart the recording service and pvrx2. If all went well you should notice the EPG loads significantly faster now.
  

I am looking to play around with a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate with Media Center, but I also like the ability to watch live and recorded shows in another room on my MediaMVP. I have two tuner cards in my PC and I was wondering if I can use GBPVR and MCE at the same time?
What I want to try is this: Have Windows control one of the tuners for recording purposes and have GBPVR control the other for Live TV on my MediaMVP. Can I also watch the shows recorded by Media Center on the MediaMVP?

I've been thinking lately... one of the hardest parts (besides getting your hardware to work) of setting up GBPVR for new people is the awesome plugins. Keeping up to date with the latest changes and all that is a bit daunting for somebody who just wants to plug and play. Not all users want to watch the forums for updates.

I think we could work up a simple Web Service, that tracks available plug-ins, including version of the plug-in, version of PVRx2 it's been tested with, whether it's in alpha or beta release...

We'd need permission of the server admin to set it up.

Then, we could have a Windows Service that monitors the web service... with a UI that lists the plug-ins available, and allows the user to select which ones they want... if they want to try alpha/beta releases (for advanced users) and how soon/often it should run updates.

The windows service would then just sit and watch... if there are updates, and there are no recordings taking place, or about to take place, it would stop the recording service, do the updates, and restart the recording service.

Something like:

For each update in updates:
If Pending <> True && Recording <> True
Install...

Anyway... I think it would allow newer and basic users to get more out of this fine system. We would have to specify a standard for the plugins to work with this... such as they would need good version control and things like that.

Anybody interested? Anybody want to add to this thread with possible criteria? Anybody already try this?

Basically, that's it, is the Comskip installed with the 1.3.11 the latest version available? Or could I update it on my system?

I am trying to setp the GB-PVR on my computer due to high reviews it get. Currently I am using the microsoft medica center MMC and it works fine. I have installed the GBPVR and also got the EPG data files rightly or atleast thats what i think. Now when i start the PVRX2 file it loads the menu only. but no video or recording page shows up (pic 01). I tried to play the files from the computer, but only audio is played , No video is shown (picture 02 attached) The config settings are shown in picture 3. My tv tuner card is ViXS Pure TV which is selected correctly and is listed in the tv tuner list as well. I have tried almost all the video options in the playback menu, with no success. I do not even get the option to scan the channels. Just the EPG data. What am i doing wrong? any help. I see lots of log files and can upload if you tell me which log files you want to see....

MMC is working fine, so i know that PVR should work too...Do i need to disassociate the MMC from the tuner card and then attach PVR to to the tuner card. If yes, How can i do that?

MME setup was really easy when i started it for th e first time and I am unable to setup PVR despite 1 days effort. I am running WINDOWS VISTA HOme 64 bit with sp1. and my system is HP m9100z with 8GB RAM.

In recent days, I installed the K-Lite Codec Pack which uninstalled the older ffdshow in the process. I have also been trying to get VideoArchive and a couple of other plugins working. Something seems to have messed up SkipTool. When you view a file using the Skip Editor, it only shows about 15 minutes of the file.

This is one plugin I really need, so I will appreciate any suggestions as to how to figure it out.

I'm using v 1.3.7 and am liking it a lot. A few problems, though, that I would like to get ironed out. One is that GBPVR won't play some DVD's or DVD files. If I record a DVD on my Pioneer DVR, then GBPVR will not play the resulting DVD nor will it play the files if ripped to the hard drive. Typically, there is sound but no video.

With some DVD's GBPVR will just hang. Then, when you press "End", the menu will come up. When you click on a title, it will begin playing with no video. If you then hit "End" again, then it will go back to the menu, but the menu will be distorted.

These DVD's play on other players with no problem. How can I diagnose the problem with GBPVR?

I've just created an HTPC (therefore a newbie) as spec'd below.

Have just my Sky STB feeding into the HVR and am trying to get a stable situation going so I can branch out from there.

Net radio, Video, Live TV all set up OK, but when I make a recording it disappears (goes to 0 bytes) once it stops recording!

I watched the last one grow to over 280 Mb, made an in-stream copy to another folder, and watched the recording disappear once it finished (these are .mpg by the way).

Thought maybe I have a mux problem, but the copy I made plays fine in WMP and over MediaMVP.

Looked for Transcode logs (which shouldn't have fired anyway) but none found.

The attahed logs may help a knowledgeable person, and my mux check showed only Cyberlink muxes.

Any help is appreciated.

PS. Last week I did a test run with 1.3.7 and recording seemed to work a treat. Should I drop back a rev?
