AC-4 audio output from ATSC 3.0
Posted by: DSperber - 2022-04-24, 09:18 AM - Forum: Android - Replies (22)

I have just acquired an Xiaomi TV Stick 4K, so now I have two Android streaming devices to compare performance of, using my Flex 4K tuner hardware supported by HDHR DVR server engine as well as NextPVR server engine.

And then there's the client comparison, between HDHR app (running on LG TV, ATV4K, Shield Tube, and Xiaomi Stick) and uiDroid app (running on Shield Tube and Xiaomi Stick). Video output from all devices goes through a Yamaha RX-A1080 AVR and then on to an LG OLED C9 TV. Audio output from all devices also goes through the AVR (which obviously does NOT support AC-4 directly, but obviously DOES handle all other audio codec formats).

In particular, right now I am specifically testing with a recording made by NextPVR from an ATSC 3.0 channel (105.1 KTLA HD here in Los Angeles), which absolutely contains AC-4 DD5.1 with all six channels populated with sound.

And I am contrasting audio output from uiDroid running on both Shield Tube and Xiaomi Stick both feeding my AVR, as heard out of the speakers managed by the AVR. Turns out the output from uiDroid on the two devices is quite different. Below are some images of "volume" on all six channels as seen by the AVR. They are not all exactly at the identical instant in time, but they do show approximately what I'm writing about here.

==> uiDroid output for AC-4 5.1 is PCM 2.0 on Shield Tube, and Dolby (MAT) 5.1 at very low volume on Xiaomi Stick.

(1) output audio from uiDroid on Shield Tube is not 5.1 in any form, but is PCM 2.0 and at reasonable volume.

(2) output audio from uiDroid on Xiaomi is Dolby (MAT) 5.1, and is very very low in volume.

(3) for comparision, output audio from LG HDHR app running on LG OLED C9 (and returned to AVR through ARC/eARC), which utilizes locally available built-in Dolby-licensed AC-4 decoding and does "passthrough" of transcoded AC-3 DD5.1).

I am PM'ing you the URL where I've uploaded the actual TS/XML recording files, so that you can use it yourself in uiDroid and hear what I'm hearing (and seeing).

Select only Existing Channels when Updating IPTV Channels
Posted by: taylormia - 2022-04-24, 04:17 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (5)

I use an m3u URL for my IPTV cannels. This URL contains thousands of unwanted channels, and I use only 145 of them by selecting (ticking) the channels I want when I import from the larger list in the IPTV Device. So far so good.

When one or more channel URLs change and I need to update them, I go to the IPTV Device and hit Update Channels. It downloads the latest channel list from the m3u URL and presents the list with all the thousands of channels selected (ticked). My IPTV provider does not use channel groups. I then have to unselect all the channels and go through the thousands of channels to re-select one by one the 145 channels that I need updated. This is very tedious and frustrating !!

Can you add an option:
where I can select with one click the channels that are in my existing list from the list of all channels from the newly downloaded m3u URL.
or
where only the existing list of channels are preselected in list of all channels from the newly downloaded m3u URL.

Either of these options would be immensely helpful. Thanks !!

  Auto update EPG
Posted by: wolvesphil - 2022-04-23, 07:12 PM - Forum: NextPVR Support - Replies (2)

I used to run a .bat file with the arguements --updateepgonly to update the EPG on an older version of NPVR.

Is there an equivalent way of doing this on the new version?
I have recently starting turning our server off overnight and found that the epg isnt updating anymore so wanted to see how I could get it to auto update when the server logs in (a batch file would work if there was a command in the new version?

  No Devices Scanned
Posted by: jcole998 - 2022-04-23, 06:47 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (21)

I'm trying to get a new install of V5 to work on a new Win 11 HP Envy 17t laptop. Installation went well.

- I then copied my old V4 config.xml and npvr.db3 files into c:\users\public\npvr-data folder. (I preserved the original installed versions of these files.)
- Started the web app.
- Devices were shown but I couldn't view anything due to a connection failure.
- So... deleted the devices that were listed and tried re-scan. Nothing.

This V5 installation is on the same laptop as my V4 installation and that installation works perfectly. They uses different ports.

Even the 'extra-" devices do not work.

Attached logs were zipped after opening the web app but before scanning for devices.

The tuner that V4 uses is the Hauppauge DCR-3250 Cable Card Triple Tuner.

Hello, I'm not sure if this is normal but my storage does not go back to what it previously was when I delete a recording, which has left me now at 9% remaining with no recordings, can anyone advise how to fix this?

  nlite currently recording
Posted by: artmetz - 2022-04-23, 03:46 PM - Forum: NLite - No Replies

sub,
Not sure if this is related to the other currently recording playback issue or not.

I can watch a recording in progress from my Colossus 2 tuner. However, last night I started watching a 3hr recording that was in progress and about 15 minutes in, my attempts to skip or manually set the playback position using a mouse only restarted playback. I wound up watching from Emby Theatre for a bit, which worked ok.

(I also have disabled comskip a few days ago due to inconsistent results with it)

Here is where I started watching:
nlite2.log
2022-04-22 20:21:33.523 [INFO][1] Activity:
...
  <recording_name>Gold Rush</recording_name>
...

First attempt to skip:
2022-04-22 20:35:33.094 [DEBUG][1] SetPosition(1134.000000)

This morning, I could resume and manually set the playback position with the mouse. So it appears to only an issue during recording.

Logs attached, let me know if you need anything else.
(By the way, I'm using NLite full time now on 2 client computers, my server is in a back room, but won't be used directly much)
Thanks,
Art

Edit: 15 minutes in instead of 30...

  Problem finding channels
Posted by: philipbonev - 2022-04-23, 01:37 PM - Forum: Linux - Replies (1)

Hi,

I installed NextPVR on my computer today - Pop!_OS 21.10. The site opens and finds my TV Tuner, but there seems to be a problem with finding channels.

The distro provided files in dtv-scan-tables package where wrong for my country bg-Sofia.
So I made myself one with current data using script I wrote:

Code:
#!/usr/bin/env bash w_scan -ft -c BG -x > tv_dvbv3.conf dvb-format-convert -I CHANNEL -O DVBV5 tv_dvbv3.conf tv_dvbv5.conf dvbv5-scan tv_dvbv5.conf cp tv_dvbv5.conf /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/bg-Sofia
dvbv5-scan finds the tv channels ok:
Code:
dvbv5-scan /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/bg-Sofia Scanning frequency #1 522000000 Lock   (0x1f) C/N= 22,25dB UCB= 0 postBER= 132x10^-3 Service BG on Air, provider (null): digital television Service TV Evropa, provider (null): digital television Service Program, provider (null): digital television Service The Voice, provider (null): digital television Service Folklor TV, provider (null): digital television Service Nova News, provider (null): digital television New transponder/channel found: #3: 818000000 Scanning frequency #2 626000000 Lock   (0x1f) Signal= -30,00dBm C/N= 21,50dB UCB= 0 postBER= 1,00 Service bTV, provider (null): digital television Service Nova TV, provider (null): digital television Service BNT, provider (null): digital television Service BNT2, provider (null): digital television Service BNT3, provider (null): digital television New transponder/channel found: #3: 490000000 Scanning frequency #3 818000000        (0x00) Signal= -76,00dBm Scanning frequency #4 490000000        (0x00) Signal= -54,00dBm

The web interface does not show error, but in log files there is something like error:
Code:

So the question I have is - am i doing something wrong or is there a bug in the software?

Cannot play recordings, but live TV is fine
Posted by: DSperber - 2022-04-22, 12:42 PM - Forum: Android - Replies (10)

First time I've posted here in a while. I bought another Android streaming device, the Xiaomi TV Stick 4K, and it just arrived yesterday. So I'm going through some very preliminary setup, experimenting, comparing with Shield Tube (updated to Experience 9 and Android 11), seeing if apps I can run fine on the Shield will or will not run fine on the Xiaomi (also at Android 11), etc.

So specifically I'm using the SD Flex 4K tuner, with HDHR DVR engine server to support it. Also, NextPVR 5.2.6 Server. And then I've got the HDHR client app running on both Shield and Xiaomi, along with uiDroid client app also running on both Shield and Xiaomi. I'm specifically focused on testing support for the ATSC 3.0 channels, to see what/quality of sound is produced out of my 5.1 audio system.

I'm not very far along past day one playing around, but one thing I have noticed is that uiDroid does not seem to be able to PLAY A RECORDING. This is true both on the Shield as well as the Xiaomi. I don't know that I've ever really tested playback of a recording with uiDroid, so this issue may be long standing and I just never knew about it until today.

There's no problem playing live programs (both ATSC 1.0 and 3.0) from the Guide, setting a recording from the Guide, etc. I actually have three recordings I've now tried to play back and all of them fail to begin (once I push the PLAY button). The app is apparently "stuck" as soon as I push PLAY, and is totally unresponsive to any additional remote key presses. Eventually the app appears to crash I'm guessing, and I'm re-presented with the top-level Android TV Home Page screen of either Shield or Xiaomi. These are all ATSC 3.0 recordings.

Again, no problems at all playing live TV. Only this issue playing a recording. Clearly the app is getting "stuck" or "in a loop"or something, because once I push PLAY it becomes 100% non-responsive, until it crashes and I'm presented with the Android TV Home screen.

I will do some more experimenting and data gathering, and varying whatever I might think can be varied, to see if I can get ANY recording to play. I've upgraded to the very latest APK available and that's made no difference. Still won't play a recording.

Is it me and BOTH of my Android devices??  Or is uiDroid??

Minor bug reading null/empty series or episode #s from XMLTV file EPG source?
Posted by: sjabaker - 2022-04-21, 04:47 PM - Forum: NextPVR Support - Replies (10)

I believe I've spotted a minor bug in the xmltv file EPG import process: NPVR *appears* to be assuming Series 01 if there's an episode number but no series number in the xmltv_ns episode_num field, and assuming Episode 01 if series # but no episode # present. For example:
<episode-num system="xmltv_ns">75 .  . 0/1</episode-num> input is showing up in the EPG as 'S76E01'
<episode-num system="xmltv_ns"> . 7/8 . 0/1</episode-num> input is showing up as 'S01E08'

I'm pretty sure it's not actually an assumption being made (I know sub's noted in other threads that he doesn't want to do that as it's so frequently wrong) - rather I suspect it's the result of a string-to-number conversion that's producing '0' for the null/empty input, which given the zero-based numbering of the xmltv format is then showing in the EPG as S01 or E01.

(No such issue occurs with the direct DVB/ATSC EPG, when compared to importing from an xmltv file produced from the same original DVB source.)

Regards,
Steve

Can't Get Channel Setup to Map to XMLTV
Posted by: SamM - 2022-04-20, 08:23 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (6)

I got a new computer and installed Next PVR. I'm trying to set up the EPG for xmltv, but it's not working. It's set to default DVB. But when I try to change it to XMLTV, nothing happens after I click Save. I tried it both with individual channels and automap, neither work. What do I do now? Logs attached.
