No signal on LiveTV, only ch57
Posted by: sami246 - 2009-01-12, 08:33 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

Hi
Must say first great program.
Just got this working with Hauppage HVR 1110 (recognised as 1100) and everthing seemed fine but......even though scanning finds all channels and when mapping channels you can view all in preview window (including all on ch57), when trying to view live TV all channels on ch57 from belmont (TMF, Virgin, Film4) are just black screen (no video or audio) even though channel info is there and EPG is fine. It says "no signal detected (strength = 0, quality = 0). Got latest version and updated config.exe, this is driving me nuts.
Any help appreciated.
Thankyou.

Effect of weak signal on playback
Posted by: doodaa - 2009-01-12, 08:28 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Hello all,

First a little intro - If you've not guessed from the post count I'm a newb with GB-PVR. I'm also a newb with DVRs in general.... Not a technophobe or anything like that since I'm a computer geek by trade, I've just never gotten that much into 'time shifting' or music, many inches of dust on the ol' betamax and my "stereo system" is straight out of the 80s - really. However, I recently decided that it was time for me to build a HTPC. I devoted an AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 2G machine with a Nvidia PCIe video card. 320G SATA drive and Vista Business to the task and waded in. My 'research' has led me here. Smile

I guess what I'm mostly looking for here is confirmation that I'm on the right troubleshooting track or not and to get an answer to a question... (After some reading on the board I don't think this belongs in the support section so here goes.)

Exactly what effect does a low input signal level have on ATSC OTA playback using GB-PVR. I'm on my second tuner card - Haupaugge WinTV 1250 after a cheap ASUS one that wouldn't work well even with it's own software. I've also ordered a WinTV HVR-1800 that'll be my final answer. Using the 1250 with help from the Support forum everything seems to be working fine except the Live TV video is 'irregular'. Some fine, sometimes freezing/pausing, sometimes only half a screen drawn. Doesn't seem to matter if it's the HD main channel or one of the secondary SD ones. I live in a fringe area and am currently feeding it with amplified rabbit ears so I realize that I'm not optimal in my setup but a commercial Zenith converter box works fine on the test station. If this behavior is normal with not much signal then I'm less afraid that I'll also have problems when I connect my 30 foot high, preamped beam antenna setup since that shows nice 85-90% signal levels on the converter box's meter. I do have trouble with station power levels wanting to 'bounce' on that meter though, not sure what that's about - weather?. I also haven't tested sound from the PC yet so if that could be related I'd have missed it....

Help, opinions and suggestions appreciated. I can't afford to buy anymore new hardware though unless absolutely necessary and I know for sure it'll mean I can hook it up and forget it. I do have a Windows Server 2003 machine that could act as the host if that would be better but the MB has no PCIe slots for the existing tuner cards.

  Recording with skips
Posted by: dongna - 2009-01-12, 08:01 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

Lately I've noticed that sometimes I'm getting recordings that include skips or glitches. In other words, I'll be watching along and suddenly the video will seem to fast-forward for a second or two. This will typically happen every 10-15 seconds or so. It doesn't happen all the time-- sometimes shows record perfectly fine with no skips-- other times I get recordings with the skipping. I'm pretty sure the problem is in the recording (as opposed to playback) because upon playback it always skips in exactly the same place. Also, viewing the file in WMP also skips in the same place.

I'm running the latest version with the Hauppage two-channel card (I forget the model number off hand). Win XP Home. Not sure what other system info may be relevant.

Any idea what might be causing this?

  TV GUIDE Problem
Posted by: hansol123 - 2009-01-12, 07:52 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

When I scroll across the TV guide after approximately 1 days worth of information the program exits.

This happens when the epg has data and when it is empty.

Your assistance would be appreciated

  Transcode and copy
Posted by: ydekmekji - 2009-01-12, 07:17 PM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (6)

I apologize if this information is somewhere. My searches were unsuccessful. Here's what I'm trying to do:

Every early morning (3am), I would like for an automatic transcoding of the recordings of the day copying that recording to a new hard drive. I don't want to delete the original, just want the transcoded file to be in a new location. I assume this shouldn't be too difficult???

  Which card for hdtv-capture
Posted by: Reddwarf - 2009-01-12, 06:34 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

I'm a little confused about which card to buy, I have two analog tv-cards (with HW-encoder) that takes care of sdtv, but I will soon have a tv-box for hdtv with scart-output (and possibly an USB-port). Is there a card on the market which can capture the hd-output from this box?

I suppose I will use an IR-blaster to change channel on the tv-box, but how do I solve the capture?

  modify wiki

how do you modify the gbpvr wiki

the page http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/MC2XML

is wrong and gives bad information. it should not use "-f" in its example command lines because it is abusive

that page should just point to the mc2xml home page which has proper gbpvr examples

  setting up multiple ExpressVu receivers
Posted by: TomR - 2009-01-12, 06:21 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

I'm new to all of this PVR stuff and am looking for some suggestions as to what I should be setting up as far as hardware goes.

What I'm trying to do is to be able to is be able to record 2 channels and watch a recorded program or record 1 channel while watching a different channel. I would like to be able to output this to our TV (non HD)

To start with I have Bell ExpressVu. I have a couple of older receivers (all single tuners). And do not currently subscribe to any HD programming.

I would like to use some existing hardware I have lying around to help reduce costs and would prefer to be able to build the PVR in steps

Step 1 - being able to record from one of my receivers.
Step 2 - add a second BEV box and be able to record 2 different channels

What would be the recommended hardware (for each step) for the following hardware: CPU / RAM / Video Capture Card / IR Remote to be able to control the BEV STB / Video card to output to TV.

How would I control the 2 different BEV boxes once they were installed? Would I need 2 different remotes? I would prefer not to have a different remote for each BEV box.

Thanks for any help you can pass on to a newbie.

Tom

  Moviewiz Date sorting
Posted by: 7ore - 2009-01-12, 06:18 PM - Forum: SearchWiz & MovieWiz - Replies (11)

I like to have the movies sorted by creation date. That way I do not have to scroll through to find the new entries as they are at the top.

But it is useless in the 1.0.22 version.
This because Movie #1 - alphabetically - has focus, even if the list is sorted by date. So it starts somewhere in the middle of the date sorted list.

  Audio Decoder/Receiver/Surround question
Posted by: Incongruent - 2009-01-12, 04:36 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

I have a support question that has nothing to do with GBPVR really (well maybe indirectly with the decoder settings). I only ask it here because I know I'm likely to come across serious home theater enthusiasts that likely can help. May I suggest a section be added to the forum for general Home Theater questions not specifically about GBPVR? Or do you think that would clutter the area.

Here's my problem. I have the M3A78-EM motherboard which supports surround sound. I have plugged in a miniplug to miniplug to my TV which then has a audio-out to my receiver (Technics SA-AX6). But I just figured out my receiver is only supporting Dolby Pro Logic I/Dolby Surround. This means it only has L,R,C,S,SW. So I get mono sound to the left and right surround speakers. I've configured my soundcard for 5.1 surround (there is no setting for dolby pro logic) and all my decoders for Dolby Pro Logic I. Which works just fine.... except I want that stereo L&R for my surrounds.

So what option do I have at this time? My receiver also supports DVD 6Channel sound so if I hook this up properly would I get the stereo L&R surrounds? I've never really heard of 6ch dvd so maybe I need a little education?

Anyway, does anyone have any thoughts on my options using my current hardware?
