OK, so I'm new here. In fact, I just created this account because I have a problem and I'm really hoping someone can help me.
First off, I'm totaly new to this whole TV-on-PC thing. I just bought myself a Hauppauge HVR-2250 card. And from everything I have been able to learn about this in the past 4 or 5 days since I got my card, it's a very nice one.
Now my problem, is that I can't find any decent damned software apparently anywhere on earth, which will allow me to use my new card, to watch and record the ClearQAM channels which I get from my cable company.
I DO already know that my cable provider (Comcast) is sending me about a dozen ClearQAM channels, including a few that I'd really like (PBS, Discovery, & History Channels). The reason I know that, is because there exactly ONE piece of software which DOES let me view them. It's the WinTV software which came with my card. But WinTV is basicly a total waste of my time because apparently it was written by some aliens or robots who have absolutely no concept of interface design or usefull features. And other than that one piece of software, so far EVERY other thing I've tried either doesn't work with my card, or doesn't support recieveing clearQAM channels.
I have already tried using the modual software from Hauppage which is supposed to add ClearQAM support to windows media center, but that is beta software, and I couldn't even get it to work correctly. Besides the fact that it works as a jurry-rig kind of deal which disables media center's ability to use ATSC and also turns up with a bunch of incorectly numbered channels so that I can't get the channels setup with the channel guide.
I've tried a number of other television software packages, but all of them either suck, or don't work with my card, or cost at least $80 to $120. (or any combination of those problems)
So basicly, this GB-PVR software here, is my last chance before I just give the hell up on the whole idea of ever watching a really clear TV channel on my computer.
Now the problem with GB-PVR, is that apparently it also does not support my card. At least, it doesn't have my card listed in it's setup options. Although it DOES have lots of other Hauppauge cards, including a couple which are almost identical to my card, hardware-wise.
So what I'm wondering, is if there is any way to GET GB-PVR to work with my card? And if so, exactly how would one go about doing that? From what I was reading in some other forum posts, I get the idea that I might be able to edit something in a file to get it working. So could someone please give me some info about that?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. And I'm sorry for the long winded post here, but I like to be very clear when posting. I can provide any furthor information which might be needed.
okay, everything was going well, and then I clambered out onto my roof with my indoor aerial to get a better reception.
And did I ever, made me wonder if I would get any more channels if i did a new scan..
thats when the trouble started, it seems to crash now when ever i try to scan for channels in the mapping.. heres the error message i get below:

After a fresh install, I got the TV Server to stream to a client, but now if I try to watch a program I get a zero byte buffer file regardless of which file type I use (DVR, full TS or TS).
If I kill and restart the services I still can't record, but a reboot will work for a until I leave things for a while and then the same problem.
I'm keen to know if anyone has managed to get this type of tuner working with GBPVR? It's a USB DVB-t 'Volar' made by avermedia. It comes up in my list of detected devices but when I try to initiate channel mapping it tells me that "GB-PVR was unable to start the BDA device you have configured. Check the device is configured properly and not already in use."
I'm not sure where to go from here. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I'm running Vista Home Premium on a Duo core intel 2.5GHz with 4g ram.
I have installed gbpvr and configured it for the Leadtek USB2 dongle. The very flaky WinFast software which came with the dongle does play fine but freezes after about 5 mins of TV coverage, which is why I tried to set up gbpvr.
gbpvr recognized the dongle on digital capture, successfully incorporated the EPG, successfully scanned for the Freeview channels available and set them up correctly activating the dongle to do so.
However it refuses to play live TV, claiming the signal is encrypted and has no strength.
What should I do to enable gbpvr to recognize the signal and get it working?
Hello, after setting up GB-PVR I've seem to come up to a problem. Whenever I want to watch live tv, it will display the info and have audio, but no video has output. even when I view the recordings afterwords its also black with audio. Although if I play the file with VLC, its all there synced with the audio. What settings must I have in capture sources or playback to make it work properly?

Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT
2GB Ram
ATI Tv Wonder 650 PCI
Pentium dual core OC'ed 2.88 Ghz
I'll also ad, games and other DX 9 programs work fine under my system, even though GB-PVR tells me I can't use VMR9. Thanks to all who take the time to help me with my issue.
i can't seem to cancel manual recordings, they restart recording after i cancel!!
i have to hit cancel,re-click on pending show and try to hit cancel again really fast, usually works about 4th time or so...and i get xxxx-1.mpg xxxx-2.mpg xxxx-3.mpg xxxx-4.mpg
also there's a long pause as soon as i hit cancel, can't do anything within gbpvr...
also this seems to happen when quick-scheduling a second show from tvguide...but may be diff. issue..
just seems like db is not committing data right away and gb waits for it...
only happens on second quick record.[record button]
after first quick record in guide, which is quick, even trying to pull up show info is delayed by about 20 seconds or more...like it's waiting for db to get updated..
any ideas?
I have 2 p[opcorn hours and i am wondering how to set up both to run gbpvr, my main question is do i have to set up separate share folders on my server "mvpmc" or can i use one share and add duplicates of certain files, like scrip.cgi with the correct ip address and share info? I'm alittle confused
A few days ago my UPS flaked out and my PVR machine rebooted several times. After that happened, the remote (Hauppauge) stops working after some time, until I reboot. If I try to restart ir.exe, I get the "failed to initialize infrared...." message. It's perplexing to me that it will work after I reboot, then no longer work.
I uninstalled/reinstalled the WinTV PVR software and that didn't seem to make any difference.
My second tuner card has a IR port but when I try to connect the IR receiver to it, it doesn't work at all. How do I tell IR.exe, or the IR driver, to use the IR port on the other card? I'd like to try that to determine if it's a hardware issue or not.
