I have my hardware working, I just don't have access to an antenna right now to view any broadcasts and I am still building my box.
I have an lcd I want to mount on my PVR box. I have written a vb.net program to read a file and display it's contents to the lcd through the serial port. I want to display date and time and, if the pvr is recording, what channel is recording. In vb.net, I use the FileSystemWatcher event to look for a change in a file, look for the last line that was changed in that file and display that to lcd.
My question is: Is there a log file I can monitor just to know what channel is being recorded at the current moment? I have found the log files in the LOG directory. I set my logging mode in configuration to INFO. I don't see any logging information I can use. What file should I monitor? Is this doable? Should I set my logging to "debug"?
On another note, should the Hauppauge remote be able to start gbpvr.exe? It only starts wintv when I press the top left button. Also, when I go to configure gbpvr, it takes up to 60s or more to display the configuration screeen. Thats seems odd.
I'm having a problem with the M780 card, Recording shows on either ATSC or NTSC does not produce an MPG file which contains a valid header. Because the header is invalid, editing tools like TMPGEnc cannot be used.
I have tried different PVRs with this card, including the Avermedia MediaCenter, and only Snapstream produces a file with a valid header. The problem with BeyondTV is that the time line is not contiguous and therefore the recording cannot be edited without loosing sync between the audio and video.
I can view the recorded show in all players that I've tried, including GB-PVR which recorded the show.
I have tried GSpot to verify the validity of the file, and it does not show problems and is able to play the recording.
I have used a command line tool called mpgtx which has lead me to these conclusions. Given that more than one software package does not produce a correct file I am starting to thing that my computer is at fault (hardware or software), and I'm out of ideas. The card is housed in an ASUS P5B with a Core 2 Duo 2.66 with 2 Gigs of RAM running WinXP.
Compressing the recording using either Nero Recode or DVDShrink fails to recompress the recording to fit on one DVD, the timeline is not valid. Nero crashes.
I have tried Avermedia support but they have not been helpful other to days that their MPEG encoder generates 'standard' frames.
I keep running into a strange problem with audio in my recordings.
There is NO sound on my Reoccuring Recordings;
My manual recordings have sound but not in sync with the video;
Live TV comes out perfect.
If I run BDA Mux checker, it shows no multiplexer. I've always had that problem despite using Intervideo, ACE Codecs Megapack, and even Cyberlink PowerDVD for a while. Do I need to download something? Please help.
My system details:
GBPVR 1.0.16
Win XP Pro
Pentium D 3.2Ghz
2GB mem
Realtek HD audio
Angel USB Tuner (Dell)
ATI Radeon X850 XT
Intervideo WinDVD

I have a NEW DSM-520 network media player for sale. This works great for watching the shows you record with GBPVR on your TV.
Connect this media player to your TV, and you can watch videos, listen to music, and view pictures that are located on your PC. Connect via wired ethernet or the built-in wireless.
I owned the DSM-520 for over a year, but it quit on me during a firmware upgrade. So I returned it to D-link for repair.
I couldn't live without a media player, so while I was waiting for my DSM-520 to be returned, I purchased another media player (TViX M-4000).
D-link sent me a brand new DSM-520 in exchange for the one I sent in for repairs. I opened the box to compare the two media players, and decided to keep the TViX instead. So I now have the DSM-520 for sale.
The DSM-520 is currently selling for about $200+shipping.
I'll sell mine for $120, including shipping (USA only).
I have a new Dell Vostro running a clean install of XP Pro fully updated and all Directx and C Runtime libraries installed. My capture device is an Angel MPEG USB unit.
This unit plays fine using Snappysoft and Cyberlink Power Cinema. It is connected to a DirecTV box via the S-Video connector.
All I am looking for is the ability to start/stop recording a program an a schedule. I'll take care of all tuning matters via the DirecTV box.
I am unable to get any audio or video to play though the Angel shows as the capture device and the S-Video is set as the connection. No channel changing required has been set.
I would really like to avoid paying $100 to Cyberlink for something that GB-PVR should do just fine. Any thoughts/directions?
TIA!
2 thing I forgot to mention ... I have searched every way I know in the Wiki and this forum for a 'recipe' for this without finding anything and
There is a message that comes up about channels not being set up but I am showing that a channel XML file has been assigned in the configuration utilty
This is probably going to be the stupidest question asked today but here goes:
I've GB-PVR set up. I think its awesome. The only question I have is how to get it to record in MPEG rather than MS-DVD. I know its possible because I had it doing it, but since a Windows reinstall it's back to MS-DVD and I can't remember how I changed it.
any ideas if I could run a linux main OS, and then windows in a virtual machine, but with enough support for the hardware to enable me to run GBPVR in the VM ?
Prefer linux for storage/backup and slimserver, but went back to windows to run GBPVR.
(dont tell me to go to MythTV, I need GBPVR to use my MVP as a client)
First, whose been keeping this secret dongle secret .... huh !!
Anyway first because I can't tell whether the wiki is up to date or not, so I will ask perhaps what is obvious questions.
I am using the "latest version link"
Generally - I like it
It allows me to setup 4:3 and 16:9 up front.
It plays dvd mpgs better than the other one (I don't see the stuttering and pausing).
Provides emulation so I can get the gbpvr menus when needed
But
1. mpgs with ac3 are out of sync - is that right ?
2. mpgs with mp2 audio, when paused and resumed fall out of sync, until a skip forward - is that a known issue ?
3. in emulation mode, once the mpg finishes, the gbpvr screen saver is on, but the keypad gives no responses, other than power off and on.
