  Standby/Wakeup
Posted by: kendrak24 - 2007-05-28, 07:35 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (15)

Hi,

I've been having my GBPVR PC running 24/7 for the last year or so, and now I thought I might try to keep it in standby when it's not recording, to save a little on my electrical bill...
So, a couple of questions:
1. What exactly do I need to change in the GBPVR config to get this up and running? Is it enough just to check the "Wake up for EPG" box?
2. If I change my power settings so the PC goes into standby after 30 mins of inactivity, will GBPVR wake up for already pending recordings, or will it only affect those recordings that are scheduled after I change my power settings?
3. What really counts as inactivity? I mean, things are read from, and written to the HD all the time in one way or another by the OS, i.e. pure disk access doesn't necessarily mean there is "real" activity (or does it?), so how does GBPVR prevent the PC from going into standby in the middle of a recording?

TIA and thank's for a great piece of software, sub!

  any hardware transcoder cards?
Posted by: pvruser - 2007-05-28, 06:23 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (11)

we all know that the MVP does not play back HD files or anything thats over the PAL/NTSC rez without transcoding it. since my HTPC is also my one and only PC that i'm using for other tasks i was wondering if there's any (PCI) hardware board out there that does MPEG transcoding on the fly (faster than realtime). i'm assuming it should allow the CPU to tell it to get the initial stream from the HDD and dump the transcoded stream back to the HDD with whatever specified parameters of the finished product. oh and of course it should be supported by gbpvr Smile
my CPU is too slow to do any work AND watch transcoded HDTV on the MVP Sad looking for solutions without significant hw upgrades or costs Cool

  PS3 Firmware update.
Posted by: Fatman_do - 2007-05-28, 03:59 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (8)

The latest update (1.8) allows to view streamed media from a DLNA server. You can now stream files off of WindowsMediaPlayer, TVersity, ORB and similar software.

I was able to stream my recordings through WindowsMediaPlayer running on my HTPC. Quality was terrible, but this was a crappy 480i test recording (source is weak fuzzy signal) on my 1080p tv set.

Nice little addon.

Hmmm....future possibilities?

  Another little problem/question about gbpvr
Posted by: Boy_One - 2007-05-28, 01:39 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (19)

After using this great program for a week now, i'm beginning to see i lived in the dark ages all of the past time...Wink I had a modded xbox but this is much better.

There is only one other question/problem i have. I think i'm doing something wrong but please can somebody point me in the right direction.

The problem i have is that when i go to music and select a directory i wan't to play, and select play all, nothing happens.. At the moment the only thing i can play i single files and not complete albums.

I tried the MusicLabrary2 as plugin, but i have the problem that not all my id3 tags are in place and because i have a lot of mp3's this will become a years job.

So what i'm looking for is just in winamp select a directory and say play. What am i doing wrong or is there another plugin i didn't see. Smile

Thanks for help so far.

Problems with THEATRIX 550 HW MPEG2 encoder bitrates.
Posted by: tmrt - 2007-05-28, 01:36 PM - Forum: Developers - No Replies

I would like to acces teletext simultaneously with MPEG2 capturing on THEATRIX 550 analog TV card (ATI THEATER 550 chip).

However, when I connect the corresponding direct show filters to "ATI VBI Output" pin (see attachment) the mpeg2 bitrate of the created capture file does not correspond to the settings of "ATI AVStream MPEG2 Multiplexer" filter. The bitrate becomes very high around 14Mbps.

When no filters are attached to "ATI VBI Output" pin everything works as expected.

Similar bitrate problems occur if I use this card in GB-PVR as a standard capture device with teletext enabled. After I disable teletext it works OK.

Does anybody know wheter this is a bug? Is there a workaround for this situation?

  Need Some DVB Advice
Posted by: zed - 2007-05-28, 05:19 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

I just picked up a Twinhan 1025 card from another forum member and am trying to get things working with GB-PVR to get PBS from AMC-3. The card installed just fine and seems to work well using DVBDream. I have a good signal on the AMC-3 Ku PBS mux and the picture is great. Unfortunately, I'm having issues with GB-PVR. I have it defined as a 'Twinhan DVB-S (PCI BDA Tuner Driver)' capture device. When I try to run the scan it either finds nothing or it finds a bunch of Unnamed channels. When I click on one of the Unnamed to see what is in the preview window, config locks up and I have to Task Manager kill it.

I'm using my old 8.5 ft. C/Ku band dish. I have the 1025 card connected directly to the Ku LNB, no diseq, using my GI IRD to move the dish, etc. I'm not sure what the LOF settings should be...11700 seems to almost work but doesn't sound right. From reading the forum, it appears that most here are using DishTV or DirectTV dishes & lnb's, which I think are different than the big-dish units, both polarity-wise (circular vs. linear) and LOF-wise.

So, is anyone using a big dish for DVB? What are your config settings? Anyone have any ideas/advice? I've had the big dish for ages and this seems like a good use for it and I'd really like to get PBS in digital (I don't get the C-band PBS-X very well since they moved it).

Any inputs will be appreciated. I'm located in the U.S. (Arizona)...

  ir controller found prompt
Posted by: bloodnite - 2007-05-28, 03:51 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (8)

Hi there... while having GBPVR up and doing whatever, it randomly brings up a IR controller found prompt which is annoying. It doesn't seem to affect GBPVR at all ... just annoying. Device manager shows my Hauppauge 1600 working fine, no conflicts, etc. I have version GBPVR 0.99.12... Seems like there's different software trying to access that same memory block.. any idea what would be causing the IR controller found prompt?

HD recordings on MVP (transcoded while recording?)
Posted by: pvruser - 2007-05-28, 03:48 AM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (6)

I know its impossible to play HD on the MVP without transcoding. however right now my PC wont keep up with the "on the fly" transcoding for more than a minute or so. the alternatives as far as i know are to increase priority of the ffmpeg process (currently not doable from config.xml but i put in a request) OR to convert finished recordings and then play them.

i'm using the ATI codecs to capture MPEG directly from my BDA card (HVR 950). it dumps 720p or 1080i and i was wondering if there's a way to set the codec up to dump 480i instead of HD while recording the scheduled program as a way of avoiding the later transcoding. i'm aware that my CPU might not be able to record and transcode at the same time but i'd like to try it first if thats possible.

any suggestions are appreciated.Smile
