A newbie needs a bit of guidance please. I have set up GB-PVR version 099.12using a Hauppage Nova T 500 card. I can see programmes and do manual recordings but the TV guide shows channels but no programme information.
I have set it up use XMLTV, update runs but the TV guide shows UK channels as I want them but no show data.
Can anyone give me an idiots guide or have any idea what I have done wrong.
I've just installed zprocess 1.001, to clean up my transcodes, I'm running gbpvr 99.12
When gbpvr starts a transcode, mpg to divx or xvid, zprocess starts up, and it begins the transcode. I knoticed that it was using ffmpeg, even though, in my 2avi profile I specified mencoder.
When I looked at the logs, it says its using 2mpg profile, even though its encoding to .avi.
Any reasons you could think of (apart from signal strength) why live preview would be fine, but any recording on the same channel (MTV) skips and stutters?
I'm using that cyberlink 1307(?) mux and it seems to do it on MVP or GBPVR PC (which makes me assume it's been recorded that way rather than the playing of it).
I've been using gbpvr for a while with the Hauppauge PVR150 for some time. Generally, it's worked pretty well. Please move this as necessary; it wasn't clear after searching and scanning that this topic has a focused entry.
Recently, I picked up an HDHomeRun (http://www.silicondust.com/). It works flawlessly with vlc. With gbpvr, not so much. After getting caught up in, and past, the bda.inf issues, I can now get gbpvr to come up, channel scan and do some slight amounts of work. Overall, though, it's not a pleasant experience. This is quite disappointing and puzzling, and I'm hoping for some clues and ideas on what to try to improve the situation.
The issue(s) that I've seen:
- gbprv will hang in channel mapping (while doing assigments)
- gbprv will crash (c0000005) during channel changes
- gbpvr will show black screens (sometimes w/audio, sometimes not)
- gbpvr will indicate "No signal", yet the HDHR shows lock, signal strength of 100%, symbol quality of 100% and signal quality of 90%
- flicker, video and audio drops and generally poor viewing
- almost always, instant audio on channel switch, even when the video fails
- This is all related to live TV, I haven't tried recording/playback yet.
The system:
- somewhat old, but dedicated 2.8 GHz P4 system with 512MB memory
- SATA drive
- Intel 82865 graphics
- Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet
- Windows XP Pro/SP2 (up to date)
- gbpvr (current)
- added ts and NativeUtilities patches (no observable change, though)
- I'm currently using only OTA, leaving QAM for when this works (note that I've set up QAM, channel scanned, etc,etc and the issues are the same). For simplicity I've removed the QAM tuner info and am just sticking to the OTA.
The system never appears to be in CPU or memory pressure/trouble.
Is this a tuning issue (no pun intended) ?
What should I be trying and/or looking for ?
A not-so-reliable source (our sys admin) told me that the cable companies in the US are forced to provide the OTA local stations as unencrypted channels. He told me he connected the cable to his HD tuner and received these local channels. I am a subscriber to the same cable company (Cox) but he has the digital package while I have only the most basic cable tv service.
Is what he says true? If so, what type of tuner do I need to decode it? I tried hooking the cable to an old Voom receiver I have and it didn't detect any channels. I know close to nothing about HD, but I have seen the acronyms ATSC and QAM thrown around a bit. Any help in understanding is greatly appreciated.
Hopefully this error isn't too vague, taken out of context. But when I try to click on anything under webstreams that's the error I receive. I've tried to follow the installation and configuration of the ubustream and supported files, but I might have missed something.
I have a Radio Shack non-amplified antenna for HD. It works great with my HDTV, I can get all the local channels w/o signal problems(it helps that I live only 2 mi from most of the towers). However, when used with the HVR-1600 that same antenna doesn't give me great signal strength on some of the channels. Would it help to go to an amplified antenna?
I have my HD channels setup and working with my HVR-1600. I don't at this point want to map the HD channels to the existing analog stations simply because a) at times the channels have different content and b) some of the channels like pbs broadcast multiple dig channels. Anyway, I am trying to figure out how to get Zap2It to map to the HD channels so I get a program guide for those channels. I mapped the HD channels to 100+ on my tuner so that the HD channels are out of the way and don't interfere with the analog channels. I named the channels like "4.1 WMTJDT" like they are in the Zap2It guide. However I still don't get the guide for those channels. What am I missing here?
