I'm looking for specs for the perfect HTPC for the following functions.
1. Watch free OTA digital content exclusively.(no analogue)
2. Record and playback tv shows.
3. Watch DVD movies.
4. Making DVD's from captured home videos. Converting VHS to DVD.
5. Play Music (CD, MP3)
I might later use a media extender to play recorded shows in another room but for now it will be in the living room. Lets say money is no object and give me your best build components.
I am running 99.12, go into the config, capture sources.
I have 3 tuners in there. (All working Correctly!)
I want to change the order. So I move them to how I want using the U and D. Click on OK. I go back in and check the config and the tunders have not moved.
I have a laptop. If I wanted to simultaneous record two shows w/ 2 usb pvr's (wintv pvr usb2 and diamond pvr660 usb) and also stream a movie through mvp from an external usb hdd all connected to a powered usb hub that's connected to a single usb port on laptop...would this be possible from a bandwith standpoint? anyone have similar setup?
Here's my config.exe.log ... don't know what caused this. I have 2 PVR150MCE tuners, using Zap2it. For what it's worth, SQLiteSpy shows the tuners in the gbpvr.db3 file. This DirectRecordingSource looks like it's killing things.
I run config.exe, click Capture Sources, then Add, and get the following:

I have a timer in the plugin I'm developing in C# and can't figure out how to force a redraw. I have "bool b; render(out b);" but this doesn't work. Digging through MSDN help to figure it out, but so far am coming up empty.
Live TV and recordings looked fine on my PC monitor. Today I disconnected the monitor and connected my TV. The video was jerky/stuttering on both live TV and recordings. So I ran GSpot and sure enough, it said I don't have the necessary mpeg2 codec. So... I read some more here and sub pointed someone to DScaler and MPV Decoder.
So I installed Dscaler and both the picture and the audio went to hell - very loud static blasted out of the speakers and the picture was a blur. So I uninstalled that and went back to the default. I messed around some more with the video card and noticed that the resolution was set at 1024x768. So I changed that to the lowest available. Now the video is fine. No more stuttering.
So all of this leads to a few questions and I'm hoping someone can clear it up for me.
1) Why would I be able to play mpeg2 files if I don't have the codec installed? If the video plays OK, is there really any reason to install a codec? Or will the lack of the necessary codec eventually create problems with some videos?
2) What should the resolution be for a regular low-res CRT TV? How about refresh rate (I'm at 60)? I have color set at 32 bit - is that too high?
3) Why would Dscaler create havoc for my system when so many use it successfully? Do I lack the horsepower to use DScaler? If that's true, can someone point me to an mpeg2 codec more likely to work on lower end systems? I have seen some mention of Nvidia Pure Video decoder. Can I use that with an ATI card?
Sorry for the long post. Any help would be appreciated.
I have a home network. There is no dedicated server. The PC's connect via a ADSL network hub. I have GBPVR installed on both PC's. Only one PC has a TV card installed The other is attached to my TV for DVD oplayback etc. I have them networked and sharing file is enabled. They are operating as workgroup perfectly. The folder where my recordings are stoed is shared on the network and I can play them on the TV using Media PLayer 10. In config I have told the PC with no TV card to use the directiry where the gvpvr files are being stored but it cant't seem to see them . What am I missing out here? How can I have GBPVR play the other gbpvr units files and see them as recordings? Both PC's using GBPVR09912. I would love to use the GBPVR interface to watch the recordings etc from the comfort of my sofa . Please help me get fatter. Cheers.
I've got a Hauppuage 350
installed gbpvr acording to the wiki..
checked setup acording to the wiki
i can playback yuotube
but thats about it...
when i try to run manual recordings i creates a file but the file stays at 0 bytes.
When i got the status window open i can see the def i've set up and it says recording, but the last section says "sleeping"
so i guess gbpvr is having problems using the capture/tv card..
When searcing the forums the Image Verification is required. It is very difficult to read and must be refreshed several times untill a readable image is available. Other websites Image Verification systems are not this challenging. Can GBPVR help with the eyestrain?
