For reasons unknown to the average cable subscriber, my cable provider decided it need ed to reorder the channel lineup. This has created a problem for me. I have two sources that have cable tv as the input and one source that has Directv as the input.
After the lineup change, I suddenly had channels in the 2100 range which also had a 'paired' station of the new cable lineup (ie 2170, 13 KLAFLP) when viewing the guide data in EWA. I tried removing all three sources, readding the lineups (Zap2it source for both cable and directv). I updated the guide data and this straightened out most of my problems, but I still have a few stations that have 21xx paired stations. I have reviewed my Zap2it account to make sure that the 21xx series stations do not exist. I have also tried to turn off/remove these channels from within each source, but they do not appear in the list of channels.
Any idea on how to fix this? I hope my explanation is adequate enough to understand the problem I am having.
[In the following discussion, "uses PureVideo" means the nVidia icon appears in my Taskbar. "Doesn't use PureVideo" means some video shows up without a corresponding nVidia icon.]
After wrestling with some DVD issues, I finally resorted to removing every codec I could find on my system EXCEPT for nVidia PureVideo v1.02-223. (DECCHECK shows only PureVideo, marked as Default.)
I configured GB-PVR to use the NVIDIA PureVideo video and audio decoders wherever possible, and VMR9. I always configure the PureVideo decoder to the same mode as GB-PVR.
Now, LiveTV displays great and properly uses the PureVideo decoder. When DVDs play (I'm still having navigation issues), they use the PureVideo decoder. However, GB-PVR playback of recorded MPEG-2 material including timeshift mode is terrible: it does not use PureVideo, the video information is crowded in the upper left part of the frame with noise through the remaining frame.
I can mitigate the frame fill problems somewhat by switching GB-PVR and PureVideo to Overlay Mode, however when I do so the frame is compressed and it doesn't appear to use the PureVideo decoder. Video quality is worse under Overlay Mode for both LiveTV and MPEG-2 file playback.
Note that the exact same MPEG-2 files that play poorly under GB-PVR play beautifully with Windows Media Player, which also uses PureVideo.
I am mystified as to why any video is shown when the PureVideo decoder is inactive. Where is GB-PVR finding a decoder when DECCHECK says PureVideo is the only one on the system?
My video source is a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-500 so even LiveTV is an MPEG-2 stream. I understand why the LiveTV display would use PureVideo, but not why timeshifted MPEG-2 does not.
I'm not real sure what to try next, anybody have ideas?
Preface:
Well - I'm in a place I'm quite happy with my setup (and so is the wife). It is quite basic and simple, but it answers our needs and habbits (at least for now). Except tweaking here and there, it's stable.
There's only one piece in the puzzle that keeps moving: The Hauppauge remote control. I saw other people complaining about it here, didn't ever see a true resolve.
The known issue is that sometimes the Hauppage Remote (or more correctly the IR reciever or IR software) sends the wrong keystrokes to the running software. People have complained about moving up/down in the guide - actually it can happen with any repeated keystroke (can be right,right,right, and when you send left, you get another right).
I know someone said they asked to replace the remote itself, but I know this will not solve it either. Sometimes, after a repeated keystrokes, even using another remote in the house(?!?!?!) sends the last keystroke again. This removes the remote itself (or GB, if anyone had any doubts) from the list.
Yes, I am running the ir.exe in a higher than normal priority (I even run it now as "Realtime". it helps a bit, still happens).
Solution:
So, instead of trying to fix it, I thought I'll just ditch the remote part of Hauppauge.
Now, mind you I'm using a laptop, so only USB (or possible PCMCIA) solutions will work.
I was thinking of just buying a remote/reciever piece. What do you recommend? IR? RF? Obviously, something that has known support with GBPVR...
Windows is doing this stupid thing -- every time postprocessing.bat is called, a window pops up, asking if I REALLY want to run postprocessing.bat, because the publisher may not have been verified. Is there a way to get rid of this? It only started doing it recently.
Just a quick heads up for anyone who uses NTL in the Uk It sees that last night (6th of sept 06) they changed all their channel numbers. if you weren't warned like me you may have missed some recordings:mad: You'll have to change the channel reference in the config app if you want to capture your fav shows in future.
I have been trying to get a good setup for my system (Loads of music, two tuners, widescreen TV, MVP...) and decided that Music Library2 plus modified skin was the right answer for the music side. I have a fresh copy from the wiki just a couple of days ago (can't say what version this means). I am using 97.13 GBPVR. Mostly all works fine but....
1. I am using the SharperEdge technique to put a task image in the menu button on the main menu, and also the task image for the highlighted menu item on the menu screen to the right. It works fine for everything except ML2. The task image refuses to appear on the button but appears fine next to it when the menu item is highlighted. I have task.png in the "Music Library2" folder and in several other folders such as "MusicLibrary2" (no space) in case there are spelling problems. Nothing I do seems to make the image appear in the button. The skin code is simple as follows (only non-selected shown, selected is similar):
<CompositeImage name="NormalButtonImage" size="400,75"> <!-- button parameters relative to the placement of the button - this version is for a normal (non-selected) button -->
<DrawImage filename="..\button_normal.png" loc="30,0" size="450,60"/>
<DrawText text="@buttonText" loc="125,15" size="270,34" textStyle="ButtonText" align="Left"/>
<DrawImage filename="@taskImage" loc="50,6" size="65,48"/>
</CompositeImage>
2. Perhaps related to 1, but I noticed that the title bar of the settings dialogue in configuration of ML2 says "MusicLibray2" (note the spelling). I wonder if there might be other problems like this?
3. Since I have widescreen, I have been experimenting with having the list, leftlist and top list all side by side and the same height. This works well. I have also tried to align them with the playlist and playlistlist. This also works nicely, but I haven't been able to put a PageUpDown on the PlaylistList. I couldn't see this used in any of the skins. Logic would suggest that there is a PlaylistListPageUpDown but this doesn't seem to work. I have tried various forms of capitals and not capitals. Does this exist??
4. I wanted to put the clock panel on the ML2 screen and this doesn't seem to show. It shows everywhere else I put it. Is there anything in ML2 that would prevent the closk panel from showing. Here is the skin code. It's simple:
I would be very grateful for your help as at the present time Music Library2 is the only plug in that will cope with the size of music collection, especially the ability to navigate around the music using alpha keystrokes.
None of these issues are show stoppers, but it would be nice to straighten them out.
Probably going to look like a total noob but here I go anyway
Playing with my new DVB-T box last night it successfully discovered several channels like UKTVGold, Discovery etc. In the crappy KWorld software it puts a little no-entry sign by them - any idea what this is? It doesn't seem to be signal related as other channels on the same mux (is that right?) are viewable.
Are some of the freeview channels encrypted or something and I need some sort of CAM to decode them? I've seen posts saying that gbpvr won't support QAM due to the cost (which is fair enough!), is that what this is about?
on a completely non-PVR topic, my wife, friend and I started messing about with a GPS device whilst touring in the US. Whilst in DC we dicided to start taking pictures of things being "squished", so we came up with the game of geosquishing. We take a picture and record the GPS co-ordinates of where it was taken. We plan to do this of famous places/people/things from our travels.
Its actually a laugh when people start asking what you are doing, particurlarly when Higgi wanted to "lick" a lighthouse.
We are in the process of thinking up the top 10 things to squish and would love more people to join in. Anyway just thought I'd let you guys know incase there are a few nutters out there who might enjoy this kind of thing. You can find more at http://www.geosquishing.com/
What I'm playing divx files losing focus on the gb-prv program and I can't use my remote to stop and forward or just go back to the main menu I have to click with my mouse on so I can use the remote.
It only happened what I play divx files.
Sorry if this was answered before.
Let's say GBPVR is recording a program. I press "Live TV" and I get two options "Watch Program ABC" or "Don't watch TV"
Question 1: Why not third option "Stop Recording"?
Now, assuming I chose "Watch ...", I start to view it from begining (from the recording), in time-shift mode.
Question 2: Why not allow me to chose between time-shit and live watching of the program being recorded?
Question 3: While watching it (in timeshift), what's the quickest way to tell GBPVR to stop recording and just move me to watch it in real Live TV? All I know is to:
go out of viewing, into recordings menu, Pending, select correct one (shows "Recording" on it), press cancel. Cumbersome?
