Has anydoby created a setup document for wintv cards using software encoding. I have (soon) a winTV primio card and would like to use gbpvr, but get lost trying to follow links into links etc. If such a document exists can i have a copy please.

I've got a nova-t 909 card that works fine in XP, I install the latest GBPVR and set-up the following:

Rec source: DBA driver (settings = Nova-t (909), Scotland, Angus)
Guide source: Bleb (settings = only BBC1 ticked as a test)

Problems/Questions:
1) After force EPG update, I get the BBC1 appearing in the list, but with nothing in the tuning column. When I hit 'map channels...' I get an assert - bombs out everytime. If I just 'enable' the channel in the list, after saving and exiting I go back in and it's not ticked any more. And if I hit 'live tv' in GBPVR I get a 'you have not set-up your channels' message - yes I have! (Haven't I? What's likely causing this, lots of others threads cover this but the fixes they advise are mapping channels and enabling channels - which doesn't work for me. Please help!

2) I installed a demo of windvd7 which I assumed would install everything I need enc/decoder/MUX wise, but when I run the MUX check utility it says I have nothing installed. Recording will be important to me, what should I do about this?

3) I read on the WIKI that GBPVR only supports hardware encoding cars, or sw encoding via plug-ins - the Nova-t works with sw, how do I know what/where to install?

I'm impressed so far with GB-PVR for my just purchased WinTV PVR-350! I've been unable to view Live TV from the Blue GB-PVR main menu. It says use TV Out. I do have an ATI vid card with TV Out but I want to view the PVR-350's tuner TV signal. I can view the PVR-350 TV signal fine without GB-PVR running, so it appears I need to reset a parm in GB-PVR for viewing Live TV, & channel surfing from the TV-Guide listings I see which is a great feature.

I'd like to have a "real" preview for my SkinTools app, and I was thinking that it would be great if the app could call up a new instance of GBPVR that starts up with whatever page is being worked on in SkinTools.

Anyone know if this is possible, perhaps using a command line switch or something similar? And, if this is possible, would it seriously screw things up if more than one instance of GBPVR was started?

How would I go about setting the EPG using DishNetwork, where the tuner needs to be on channel 73, and the dish network tuner does all the work?

I tried adding just one channel (73) in the main config. I used Zap2it to configure the guide, but of course I cannot select a channel from the guide.

Does anyone have any interest in a plugin to allow capture of DV from DV camcorder tapes?

Using the DVD ripper plugin source (and sharp develop), I changed the part where it invokes DVD decrypter, and replaced dvd decrypter with the program WinDV, which has command line switches. Now, from the GBPVR menu, I can invoke WinDV and capture digital video, and send it to whichever video directory I want.

One area that this could be enhanced (and I don't know how to do it) would be to add controls that change how much video to capture. I have the plugin set at 1 hour.

The DVD ripper plugin source seems pretty handy if all one wants to do is start a program using command line switches, especially for a novice like me.


GBPVR is great software. It prompted me to build an HTPC that we now use quite a bit for all those Barney and Sesame Street episodes out there!

After installing dotnetfx.exe and GBPVR09516.msi the configuration panel hangs when I click on "OK" even though I have not changed anything. I have to use task manager to kill the config process.

Checking the config log, the message "about to connect ot remote recording service" is near the end of the log and the program appears to be waiting for input. Here are the last three lines of the log:

Running XP Home SP2. WinTV PVR 150.

Just got my new Sky decoder (the HD based one) and have been playing with it. It's real fast compared to the old one and there are some really cool features. (Still exploring)

One of the best is the ability to set it up with a 16x9 TV, but also the ability to set it up so 4:3 images are displayed as they would be on a 4:3 TV (black bars either side) while the TV is still set to 16x9. No more aspect ratio changes (except for DVD's).

The recorded picture quality is awesome - I can't tell the difference between it and live TV.

It's certainly going to get a thrashing in our household.

May I ask the "knowledgeable" people here, what MPEG2 decoder to use?
Does it make a difference?
I downloaded the Windows XP utility (DECCHECK) which checks for the default decoder in use, and found that I had Nero(Video and DVD), Cyberlink(video/SP video/PP, and MPEG), Ulead Video, and LeadTek DTV (I have a LeadTek card).
Which one do I use?
Should I use Nero if I want to go to burn DVD's?
Do they all have different file sizes that they produce?

For some time now I have had a strange problem with the system booting and going into a reboot loop. There are several situations in which this occurs.

First right after the EPG is updated. I'm using ZAP2IT set for 11AM update. I have two profiles define, one for cable (about 30 channels) the other for Dish satellite (about 100 channels). Normally no one would see this happen because no one would be home. But on those occasions when I work at home or on weekends it happens as regular as clockwork. Almost without exception when the update occurs the system boots itself after what appears to be the first profile -- around 11:15AM. The system will boot itself and then continue to reboot just as one of the GBPVR functions kicks off. The strange thing is that when someone gets home at 5PM and turns on the set the system is up and waiting properly --- I have no idea how many times it has rebooted in the meantime however.

I do know that it is possible to shortcut the reboot loop by starting in Safe Mode, setting "ChkDsk c: /f" for the next boot and restarting the system. ChkDsk NEVER finds or fixes any errors but when the system reboots after ChkDsk GBPVR always starts normally.

The second situation is a random reboot. This evening in the midst of watching a program the system rebooted itself. It then went into the reboot loop until I started in Safe Mode and ran ChkDsk. As always, ChkDsk does not find or fix any errors but when the system restarts GBPVR runs normally.

I've attached the entire set of logs from today in hopes that someone can help sort this out.
