I am looking for a tv-card to do mainly PVR stuff with, I won't be using it much to watch tv. I have a amd athlon xp 1145mhz, 512mb ram, nvidia 5500 128mb, and windows xp pro. I am looking for a card that has an encoding chip on it, so which would be the best? I have my choices down to 3 or 4 cards:

Hauppauge 150 MCE (Conexant cx23416 - encoder and cx25843 - a/d converter)

Leadtek PVR 2000 (Conexant cx23416 - encoder and cx23882 - decoder)

Sapphire Theatrix 550 Pro (ATI Theater 550)

MSI Theater 550 Pro (ATI Theater 550)

Which would you pick and WHY? The leadtek is the cheapest but I've heard the ATI Theater Pro's may have an edge on looks in PVR.

I'm still somewhat new to this, and I've been scouring the internet for two days without finding anything concrete.

How do I fit a GBPVR-recorded movie onto a DVD?

For example: I have an .mpg file (from GBPVR) that is 3.5GB and 2 hours long, but as soon as I dump it into my Roxio DVD authoring program, it takes up over 7GB?? I'm guessing it has something to do with the bitrate, but I can't find out how to change the bitrate on the mpeg2 file. Do I have to decode/reencode? do I have to demux/remux? What are some recommended/fast tools to do this?

Hello all. New here and to the PVR scene. I have had an old Creative Labs Digital VCR for years but never used it to record. I just bought the Hauppauge WIN TV PVR-150. I love the quality. I always thought the bad picture on my CL product was just due to a crappy cable connection but I was wrong. This PVR-150 looks great at DVD-Long quality. The problem is the file size generated. I recorded a show the other night (1 hour) and the resulting file size was more than 5 gb. I did bring this file into the Ulead software that was supplied and it said the resulting dvd would be 3 gb. I played around with different settings but everything I tried resulted in files being about 30 to 50 mb per minute. I am currently using the supplied software (WINTV 2000) but plan on downloading and using gbpvr tonight. I tried Sage TV but I do not like the fact that I cannot stop the recording when I'm just watching TV. I want to be able to not record if I just want to watch live TV. Will gbpvr allow this or does it force recording for the time shift features? And I have downloaded many tv shows in the past that had great resolution but were no more than 800 mb per episode. How do they do that? Any help will be appreciated. I got this to avoid getting tivo but I refuse to waste DVD blanks on the shows I intend to record for my wife (American Idol, and other reality shows). I would like to be able to put them on single VCD's so she can watch them on our TV.

I'm new to writing GB-PVR plugins and indeed to programming for .NET, so please bear with me.

I have managed to create a working plugin, the problem is, pretty much everything is hard coded. For example I have the path to the recordings directory hard coded into the plugin. What I can't figure out, is how to read this path from the config:confused: .

I could just open the config.xml file and read it directly from there, but I suspect there is probably a class or method that deals with this already.

So, to cut out the waffle (I'm always long winded:o ), is there a way in the GB-PVR API to get specific information from the config.xml file?

I couldn't access the forum all yesterday evening and night or this morning at home but at the office, it's fine. Was this just me and my ISP or did anyone else have this happen?

The last two times I've used the every so reliable GBPVR to record a show - it's cut the recording short - last night it only recorded for 44 seconds - out of over an hour!

Any way we can see what is going wrong?

Just a small problem... when returning to windows xp after hibernate my
Hauppauge remote (45button) is not responding. A error mess like "failed to initialize remote" appears.
I am using the ir-reciver in my WinTV-NOVA-T-USB-2.
Is it the usb-connection that causes the trouble?

I do have a second tuner, PVR 150 but the ir-reciver on that card doesn´t work when WinTV-NOVA-T-USB-2 is installed.

Is there a way to choose wich ir-reciver to use and maybe the PVR150 works better after hibernate?

Is there a way that MyDVD can be run as a batch job external to the gbpvr shell?

I have both convert.bat and dvdburn.bat working fine when called from gbpvr but I notice that there is a step between them where the application code invokes DVDAuthor (with some parameters unknown to the user). Also, I don't know how demux.ajb gets created at the beginning. I'd like to be able to combine it all together into a single batch job.

My objective is to be able to process recordings (all the way to producing an iso file) against a file list and to schedule it at will. I looked into MyVideosDemuxing but it seems to process all recordings, whereas I want only selected ones, and its demuxed output still needs to be processed (one by one, while you wait to trigger the next one) from the MyDVD screen (I can't just run dvdburn.bat at that point, I imagine).

I have the ExternalRecorder plugin set up to play an mms stream using VLC on channel 84. I would like to set up several channels, each pointing to a different URL. It looks like the only way to do this is to set up a separate capture source for each channel (since the URL is hard coded in the parameters to VLC on the config screen). Is there a way to have the URL be replaceable in the capture source parameters and then associate different channels within that source with the different URLs? I see mention of a {channel} string but that looks like it uses the channel number rather than it's name. (If it was the name, I could use the URL string as the channel name). Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here.:confused:

i used to only use my MVP to view GBPVR,but now that i'm using both it and the main machine, i didn't like the power key behavior and am pretty sure there's no other way to fix outside of major modifications by Sub so i made a little app to handle my grnpower button for the remote of my pvr150..
basically what it does is make the green power button work like you'd want it to..when you hit the power button it will:
if gbpvr isn't running it will start it,if it's not active it will make it active,if it's active it will hit f12-[default power plugin]

all of which USED to work by setting "GRNPOWER={run(c:\progra~1\devnz\gbpvr\gbpvr.exe)}" in the [default] section of irremote.ini......till i started using the MVP again...
then it would give focus to the MVP server app window when i ran gbpvr.exe again..
so i created this little app that uses the window title to tell the difference..
[mvp server title is not 'GBPVR',it's 'GBPVR MediaMVP Server']
just put it in your [default] section like GRNPOWER={run(c:\progra~1\devnz\gbpvr\gbpvrun.exe)}
and it should also work for other remotes too..
it also sets the priority high to solve those nasty 30 sec jitters in playback..
so far no ill consequences from that but i can change it if requested..
