set-up woes, & can't find solution in previous threads :(

I've got a nova-t 909 card that works fine in XP, I install the latest GBPVR and set-up the following:

Rec source: DBA driver (settings = Nova-t (909), Scotland, Angus)
Guide source: Bleb (settings = only BBC1 ticked as a test)

Problems/Questions:
1) After force EPG update, I get the BBC1 appearing in the list, but with nothing in the tuning column. When I hit 'map channels...' I get an assert - bombs out everytime. If I just 'enable' the channel in the list, after saving and exiting I go back in and it's not ticked any more. And if I hit 'live tv' in GBPVR I get a 'you have not set-up your channels' message - yes I have! (Haven't I? What's likely causing this, lots of others threads cover this but the fixes they advise are mapping channels and enabling channels - which doesn't work for me. Please help!

2) I installed a demo of windvd7 which I assumed would install everything I need enc/decoder/MUX wise, but when I run the MUX check utility it says I have nothing installed. Recording will be important to me, what should I do about this?

3) I read on the WIKI that GBPVR only supports hardware encoding cars, or sw encoding via plug-ins - the Nova-t works with sw, how do I know what/where to install?

It sounds like a driver or mux issue, to my non-expert ears(eyes??)

1) When you click 'map channels' this is the first time in the process that GBPVR will try to access the tuner, so if the tuners drivers/muxes are not set up right, this is where it will fall over, **in my experience**

Have you installed the wintv software and got that tuning first, to make sure all the required bits and bobs are installed? If it works in WinTV, it should work in GBPVR.

2) Im fairly sure WinDVD will only install its decoders, not MUXes. i might be wrong though. You should already have the Microsoft Mux if you have SP2 though.

3) That statement is relevant to more traditional analog tuners. The various digital streams that the Nova-t tunes into is already encoded in MPEG2 before its broadcast, so no encoding is needed at your end. You just need the mux to tie all the seperate streams together.

Yes, wintv is installed and works just fine. I've actually got the card working through a meedio tv trial aswell (but the tv side of meedio is really bad, whilst gbpvr looks quite useful)

It does say when it asserts when trying to map channels that it can't locate the nova-t, or it is being used by something else...I've checked and nothing else is open.

Do I need to install dba drivers, or just stick with what came with the card?

Unless it's an old card it's probably a Nova-t 90002, even though it says 909 on the box, mine was anyway

You can find version 5.0.1307 of the Cyberlink Mux if you download the drivers for a Hybrid DVB-T/Analog card from the twinhan site. Don't install them just extract the file THMpgMux.ax and register that.

You don't need any hardware/software encoding as such as you're using a digital source anyway.

check that - bought card from ebuyer in uk 2 months ago, listed as mfr code 909 - will it matter which model it is? If so, how do I check - look at the board itself I guess?

I'll install the mux, but thats just used for recording, right?

Yes I think it does matter which model it is as they use different chipsets, if the card has 2 coax connectors on the back and the software that came with it is WinTV2000 it's a 90002.

there also should be a white label on the big chip on the board itself which will indicate your model/chipset.

Mines a 90002 labeled:

You might find everything clicks into place if you just change the GBPVR settings from a 909 to a 90002 as if its working elsewhere in other apps id assume you already have the mux and drivers installed correctly.

It sounds like if he chose 909 instead of 90002, he hasn't mapped the epg. As I doubt the tv card would scan and pick up any channels.

ok - I'm at work and can't check right now but I know there are 2 aeriel connectors on the back and that it came with wintv2000, so its very likely the other model

I did start off with the other model as I assumed I had the newer one but with no luck, but I wasn't comprehensive in checking I did everything like I was with the 909 setting.

I'll trythis again tonight, will report on what happens - thanks for your help guys.
