  Refresh Lines Across the Screen?
Posted by: maboone - 2005-10-06, 03:36 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Hi:

I have a slight cosmetic problem. This occurs in both LiveTV and Recording features. I have lines that 3-5 running across my screen every 30-60 seconds. They look like refresh lines when you look at a computer monitor through a video camera. It is something I coudl live with but I was wondering if someone had a solution or 'trick' to try to fix it.

I am running WindowsXP SP2 Pro with an AverMedia MCE 150 and an ATI 9250.

Please Help!,

Matt

  Problem with PVR-350
Posted by: scudderdan - 2005-10-06, 01:20 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Hi, I'm a newbie with this.
I'm having a problem with my PVR-350 card (actually I'm having a few problems, but I'll start with this one). When I play back VCD movies I get some movies that start somewhere in the middle and others that play for a few minutes and then go to an orange screen (this is on the TV out from the 350).

My machine is fairly high-powered. It's a P4 3.2G with 1GB of RAM.

Anyone else seen this behavior?

XMedia skin, Music Player plugin text-wrap problem
Posted by: BobAtTorrey - 2005-10-06, 01:02 AM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - No Replies

In Music Player and Icon view, next to one of my album covers there is a line that reads:
"Contains 12 tracks and 2
xxxxxxxx"

I don't know what "xxxxxxx" really is because I only see the very top edge of it. The text has wrapped, as shown above, and the 2nd line apparently is mostly out of the bounds of the field. So, I think that text needs to be moved upward a bit.

I'm using the XMedia DX skin. (It also happens with the Blue skin, but it appears the location of that field in the XMedia skin is identical to (and so probably just copied from) the Blue skin.

Thanks in advance ...... Bob

  XRecord telephone-style keyboard
Posted by: BobAtTorrey - 2005-10-06, 12:38 AM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (1)

Jorm,
The telephone-style keyboard is working fine in XSearch but there is a problem in XRecord.
I enter XRecord, and select the Manual option. Then go to set the Name Prefix field, and the keyboard pops up. However, it seems not to recognize telephone-style keypad entry. In the XRecord skin.xml I set telephone="true", and in the Plugin Settings for XRecord 'Keyboard Telephone Style' is checked. But still it doesn't treat my MVP remote control as telephone-style; all I get is numbers when I hit the keys.
Is this a bug or do I need to configure something else to enable telephone-style?
Thanks .... Bob

  Manually updating EPG Generates Error
Posted by: jcsimonich - 2005-10-06, 12:33 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

I've been using gbpvr for a couple of weeks. It took me a lilttle while to get everything to work, but it's been fine for the past week until a couple of days ago. Now my EPG generates an error when I try and manually update it.

"Application has generated an exception that could not be handled"

I checked to see if my subscription to zap2it was current and it was. I also disaabled my ZoneAlarm firewall to make sure that wasn't causing the problem, but I still got the error.

My GBPVRTray.exe.log contains the following after a fresh reboot:

  XSearch gives poor results
Posted by: BobAtTorrey - 2005-10-06, 12:10 AM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (4)

Jorm,
XSearch gives undesired results in certain modes. As an example, I used the keyboard (via the MVP remote) to enter the search text "hanks", intending to search for anything with Tom Hanks. Then I used the yellow button to switch to Cast mode. XSearch displayed numerous shows that were irrelevant, such as The Waltons. Upon looking at the description for the shows, they tended to have the word "Thanksgiving" in their text of the Description. Second, it displayed many episodes of The Waltons, only one of which had "Thanksgiving" in it.
Some suggestions:

1. When searching for Cast (where the search text is always a name), it seems preferable to assume that the search text is bracketed by \Word break characters. E.g., when searching in Cast mode, a text of "hanks" should result in a regular-expression search like \Whanks\W .

However, someone might argue that they don't want to have to type the entire name, and want to find "Lolabrigetta" by typing "lola", and would therefore object to my suggestion. If you want to allow that, then I think you would need to do one of two things:

A. Have an on-screen 'Word-boundary-mode' button of some sort that overrides the default search mode -- E.g., switches 'Word-boundary' off or on. (Yuck.)

B. Select a button on the remote control (and key on the keyboard) that is unused on the search screens, and use it to signify \Word boundary. The user could then specify \Word boundary at the beginning, end, both or neither. For example, if you choose the '>>' (fast-forward) symbol on the remote, then
1. >>hanks>> would find only " hanks ", or " hanks, " etc.
2. hanks>> would find "hanks" and "Thanks" (but not "Thanksgiving")
3. hanks would find all of "hanks", "Thanks", "Thanksgiving", "shanks"

If you choose this type of solution, then you don't need to treat the "Cast" mode search differently than any of the other modes.

[Note that equally you could adopt the opposite convention. That is, you could assume before and after word boundaries, but the special character could override it. I.e., typing "hanks" would mean searching for regular-expression '\Whanks\W', whereas typing ">>hanks" would mean searching for regular expression '*hanks\W' thereby matching "hanks", "thanks", "shanks".]

[Incidentally, am I correct that "Cast" search is really no different (partly because of the above issue) than "Description" search? I looked at the Programme table in gbpvr.mdb and there is no separate field for Cast, so you must be searching the Description field. (??) ]

2. A second problem with XSearch results is that it returns episodes that don't match. This seems to occur when searching in "Cast" mode, but not when searching in Description or Subtitle modes. For example, if I search Cast for "hanks", and it finds an episode of The Waltons with "Thanksgiving" in the Description text, XSearch lists ALL episodes of The Waltons, not just the episode(s) that have "Thanksgiving". Whereupon I have to scroll through each of the many episodes and read each Description to see which episode really contains "Thanksgiving". Clearly incorrect, IMHO; only episodes matching the search text should be returned.

Thanks in advance.

  gbpvr.mdb size??
Posted by: groover km - 2005-10-05, 11:33 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

I have had a problem for a while with my set up - I can't access live tv on the MVP (Sub helped me with this), gbpvr takes 10 minutes to open on the PC, seemed to always be spinning it's wheels at 20-30% cpu...

Well tonight, I restart gbpvr from the config screen and watch task manager for 10 minutes as peak mem usage rises to 212MB, cpu racing - then it falls away to 48MB and 0% cpu. And lo, the MVP comes straight on.

I did some digging and found this in my gbpvr log:

10/5/2005 6:52:37 PM.781 VERBOSE [2] Adding: Right FM_RIGHT
10/5/2005 6:52:37 PM.781 VERBOSE [2] Adding: Home FM_HOME
10/5/2005 6:52:38 PM.234 VERBOSE [2] getDatabaseConnection() creating new connection
10/5/2005 6:59:50 PM.453 VERBOSE [2] getValue cached value: /settings/EPGProcessingMode : NORMAL
10/5/2005 6:59:50 PM.703 VERBOSE [2] getValue cached value: /settings/EPGProcessingMode : NORMAL
10/5/2005 6:59:51 PM.390 VERBOSE [2] SimpleScreenSaverTask created

I looked in the directory and gbpvr.mdb is over 300MB - does this sound right to you guys? I'm guessing that the delay is while it loads this and 'does it's thing'.

I have never reinstalled gbpvr in nearly 12 months; always updated over the top.

Would it be worth reinstalling, or am I going in the wrong direction?

Thanks in advance.

  Annotated XSearch/FastFind Skin.xml File (Updated: 10/5/2005)
Posted by: Necro - 2005-10-05, 10:54 PM - Forum: Forum Issues & Documentation - No Replies

This is as of the most recent version available as of 10-05-2005. I dont have the specific version number of the plugin (the dll version is 1.0.2096.19520).

This covers everything in the blue themes skin, I believe. I've removed extraneous stuff but if there are other settings I have NO idea what they are. If you have any addition comments or information on what the heck certain things do, please let me know and I'll add them in.

Note that the 'unused' items seem to still need to be in the skin file or GBPVR freaks out. I have NO idea why.

Notes:
- Certain text items have 'linked' colors (they share the same text color attribute). Keep this in mind as some text items in the popups are shared with items in the normal search lists, etc.
- The popups, aside from their backgrounds, appear to be completely unskinnable - you can't even move them/resize them at all. Only the background element is alterable and thats about the only reference to the popups in the skin file.
- The left.gif and right.gif files, used in the advanced scheduling popups, are 28x28 and are stretched to that size if they're not already at it. They are only used in the 'Schedule' option popup, the 'advanced' popup appears to be skinned somewhere else even though it gets some of it's text settings from this skin.xml (Xrecord???).
