  Live TV Freezes OS
Posted by: wongojack - 2005-06-28, 04:53 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (9)

So, I'm watching live TV and at the 1/2 hour the whole computer just freezes up. It happened tonight at just before 10:30 and then again just before 11.

It looks like the problem is event code 14 and a "renewlease" entry.

Any Ideas?

Scheduled recording skips IR blaster, but live TV works
Posted by: gabeweisz - 2005-06-28, 03:13 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

I have one PVR150 and one PVR150 MCE, and am using the PCR150's IR blaster with my cable box. When I watch live TV with the one controlling the cable box, GBPVR always uses the IR blaster to set the channel on the cable box, but when I use scheduled recordings, it does not use the IR blaster to set the channel (it always uses the one without the IR blaster first to record, so I onl see the problem when I try to record two things at once). Can I do anything to try to force it to use the IR blaster for scheduled recordings?

  So near, so far
Posted by: mrscalex - 2005-06-27, 08:07 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I successfully have my Nova-T PCI, MVP and GB-PVR up and running in very basic form.

However there are some major problems which are stopping me from getting any real benefit from the set-up. To recall an old Two Ronnies sketch, "we apologise for the loss of sound and vision on this channel, we do hope it is not spoiling your enjoyment"!

At this stage I should say I have some old and low spec hardware. A PIII 600, NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro, 256 Mb RAM and W2K (Net thingy 1.1, MDAC and DirectX 9c are installed). However, I get a superb Live TV picture on the server and since I don't have 200 quid to spend on better hardware I'd like to stick it out.

I have checked old threads but I'm struggling to find a way forward with the following:

1) Music files will not play on the MVP or server. Hitting play has no effect. The same MP3s are fine played direct from WMP. Running the standard Hauppauge server software I can hear the same music streams fine on the MVP
2) I can't get any Live TV on the MPV (perfect on the server). It says there is no tuner available
3) The MVP reboots frequently and locks up (okay, there are some threads on this and I am following them up but I thought I'd include it in case it improves overall understanding)
4) I did have Net Radio working but this has conked out now. Same prob as 1) but at least it makes out it's playing the stream just no sound.

I have successfully installed the Weather plug-in and this runs fine on the MVP. In fact I'm tempted to say the outlay and effort spent so far is worth it for this alone. Cool!

I don't expect detailed answers, that's not fair on you guys. But any general pointers to get moving again would be very welcome. Please don't tell me to get new hardware though unless you really, really believe it is behind the problems! The PC in question will only be used as the GB-PVR/MVPserver, it has no other role and will just sit in a corner.

Thanks,

Robert

Set up with win XP home how to fine tune set up?
Posted by: Zool - 2005-06-27, 07:08 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Hi,

I have been running GBPVR for a while now and I must say it is one of the best pvr's\front end's I have seen. All of the functions seem to work well for me and it was easy to set up Smile So I just wanted to say thanks for such a great program.

Now what I wanted to get, was some input on fine tuning my system. I am running on a P4 1.8 with 512 megs of ram WinTV250 card and a Geforce 5600 to a samsung 43 RPTV via DVI all on XP home. I just wanted to know if anyone has tuned their XP set up in the way of shutting of some of the service's and such, or any other XP tweeks/hacks? If this has been asked many times I am sorry to ask again. I did a search but did not find much regarding this kiind of thing. If any of you know what services can be shut off or know of any other hints/tweeks for XP your help would be great.

Thanks for your time.

Dave

  Video seems very grainy
Posted by: steprich - 2005-06-27, 04:02 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

Hi people,
I have just installed the Win-TV 150 into a dedicated system to use with the gbpvr software.

IN
Satelite svideo for video
Satelite coax for sound

OUT
ATI 8500 (using the svideo)
Creative sound card
BOTH going through ONKYO Amplifier then to Panasonic projection TV

I have a Pentium 850 with approx 300MB ram and 120 GB drive to record data, (but using the local drive for caching)

The setup seems to work, I have NOT spent any time with configuration, of the software or remote, but my initial feeling with the standrad setup is "Very Grainy" - and all of the buttons on the remote do not function....

I would NEVER watch the signal because of the loss of quality.
Am I missing something? - does it need to be tweaked? what setting do I need to complete?

  Cablebox IEEE1394/Firewire port support

Does any of you have an add-on solution for GB-PVR to connect PC directly to IEEE1394/Firewire port of cablebox to view/record digital and high definition channels. Can the solution provided by AVS forum be integrated in GB-PVR as a standard add-on?

  PVR-350 and XCard Questions
Posted by: Gomer - 2005-06-27, 01:04 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (7)

I'm sorry if these questions have been asked before but I really can't seem to find any direct answers:

1. If I buy a PVR350 will I be able to view ALL program output over the TV-Out? (by ALL I mean LiveTV, Timeshifted, GbPVR GUI, any Video files I have on my harddrive (including AVI), DVD, music playing and more) I really don't care whether it will do Hardware decoding, although it would be nice, as long as it outputs everything over the TV-Out...?

2. Same Question but regarding the XCard (although I'm very reluctant to install it given the crappy drivers for it)

3. If the answer is no to any of the above: How come?

4. Are there any disadvantages to choosing the PVR350 over the PVR150 except for the price of course?

5. Is the TV-Out of the PVR350 anywhere near as sharp as the TV-Out of the XCard?

That's it for now, sorry once again if this has been asked but I really would the clarification as the Hardware decoding is not my primary concern (the PC is easily fast enough to do it), the quality of the TV-Out however is and the possibility to use anything other than a normal PC graphics card would be excellent...

Thanks!

PS. GbPVR really is a magnificent piece of software! DS.

  Partially recorded content
Posted by: DaveW - 2005-06-27, 12:15 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Hi All,

I’ve had some problems with the manual recording. When I set multiple manual records on multiple cards, it runs fine for a week or so, then starts failing. If I set a program to record from 1800 to 2000 with a 2 minute buffer each side, I end up with a 4 minute video, with only 2 minutes either side of the program I actually wanted to record! An 0900 to 0930 with 3 minutes buffer each side results in a 6 minute video. I gather it’s recording the predefined buffers, but missing the actual programmed time.

There seem to be some glitches with the manual recording too. If you create a manual record, and then edit it, the new information is there, but it adheres to the parameters set originally.

I’m running with the version of GB-PVR that I grabbed a month or so ago. I’m running 3 computers, each with:

Intel 3.0GHz P4 CPU
1024MB RAM
400GB Storage (3x 200GB RAID 5 Array on Highpoint card)
Windows Media Centre Edition
2x Hauppague PVR-150MCE

It was a total pain getting the PVR-150’s going, but I managed. I also had to set Bleb (UK) as the EPG and deselect all the channels, therefore needing to program each recording individually. The reason for this was that each card is recording a different State's TV, and potentially time zone on the same channel (localised news), so no EPG will do that job adequately. I saw the problems with editing the manually set recordings, and could work around that, but the problems with it chopping out the video that I’ve scheduled is fairly frustrating.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dave

  Audio Out Of Sync
Posted by: Gaz - 2005-06-27, 05:56 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Hi All,
Problem when recording, the audio is out of sync behind the video about 1 second. Its out of sync whatever I play back in. Using Black Gold card. Tried using Mytheatre and the recording was fine but would prefer to use GBPVR.

Many thanks in advance,
Gaz.
