I am sure this has been asked before, but, I would like to have gbpvr set up on my laptop so i can watch the recordings anywhere over the network. I have a recording box set up to the tv in my bedroom. Is there any way this would be posible? It seems like it would be pretty easy, but i cant figure out how. Maybe even just sharing the folder that its in and mounting it. Can anyone help me with this?
I have a PVR350 and have loaded all the applications on the setup disc.
Can anyone advise if I should uninstall any applications before installing GB-PVR?
Here in the UK, ITV (in particular) have a nasty habit of splitting a film in two with the news stuck in between the two parts. This is fine if you spot it but last week I set a recording going thinking it was the whole thing - if I'd scrolled further to the right in the on-screen TV Guide I would have spotted the second part and recorded that too.
What I'm thinking is some sort of intelligent scheduling approach that checks for the same programme title within, say, 30 or 60 mins after the first. It could then automatically record that or perhaps prompt the user as whether or not they wanted to record it. Perhaps this could be done, in particular, for where programmes are shown as category "Film" in the EPG.
I like to use GB-PVR to view music videos and would like to use the same functions that are available for music (i.e. "Shuffle" "Play All") with videos.
It's a rare case (for me) when software is on the first place
in selecting a hardware... Great soft!
But it's true nobody know the soft without problems (and without
"tricks" for workaround :)
First of all I'm not sure is it my fault or the software so please
confirm/break my suspectings (first of all and at least :)
OK, my setup is:
- GBPVR version 9112b
- Hauppauge PVR150
And here they are - 3 "problems"/tricks - concerning
(1) putting channels in "Capture Source"
(2) display "contest" ("teletext"?) from EPG during LiveTV
(3) playing a recording (currently) file (with file name taken from EPG!)
Step by step:
(1) The only clear (for me:) way to fulfill channels in GBPVR is
"Semi-automatically specifying frequencies" by freq2reg.exe utility.
I created the list counting channels:
from "1" to XXX (some number:).
After importing it in GBPVR EPG the channels
starts from '0' (zero) to XXX-1.
But when I've started to switch them in LiveTV they missed
one channel from the list and switching was...very "unstable".
I've "re-numbered" them in GBPVR "Capture Source" EPG window
staring from "1" and it works perfectly!
Is it a "famous misunderstanding" from which number we need to count
(zero or one) or...some bug?
(2) OK, then I fulfill EPG by real TV schedule but for some channels
it was empty (that is of course perfectly fine:).
But it seems when (during channel surfing) I passed through
a "EPG empty" channel I lost (hopelessly) the "teletext" for
ALL channels (do I call this feature correctly? it's when you
see the description about current show...)
Only channel name was displayed.
Something wrong with my setup or it's a bug?
(3) And the latest one...When I was recording a show from TvGuide
I did not succeeded in playing it in Recordings (at the time of recording).
Well, I changed the name of the show (in EPG) replacing all spaces
(don't smile - the show name was (as practically all of them) with spaces :)
by underscore and it started to be "playable" even during recording phase.
The same (looks like) problem is valid for LiveTV: when you are
switching to timeshifting mode you can not see anything if show has a name
with spaces (you simply get out to MainMenu).
And it is fine without EPG data: in such a case you are getting
"generic" filename like TV-XX-XXX_XXX.mpg (without spaces).
Another (dubbed) case when you "check" in configuration a option
(or two?) "Auto-create folders when recording": in this case you will
get spaces in directory name (if they are in filename).
Hope to resolve these (mainly the (3)!) problems for me.
And once more thanks for the great product (and especially for support!)
Just musing really. Does anyone know of any DVD 'jukeboxes' for multimedia systems? I'm thinking the equivalent of the multi-disk CD players (my friend has a 300 CD autoloader - Sony, I think).
If I ever get bored with tinkering with my GB-PVR setup, I'd like to start archiving my old VHS tapes either to CD-R in VCD/SVCD format or to DVD so we can get rid of the boxsets on our living room shelves and just play the recordings using my domestic DVD under the telly.
It occured to me it would be cool to have a DVD autoloader/jukebox connected to my media server PC upstairs perhaps with a plug-in to GB-PVR to load and play recordings from the disks. I realise there are issues with playing VCD/SVCD/DVD formats but with a big enough autoloader I could just have raw MPG files on the disks.
Anyway, as I said, just musing but would be interested to hear of any possible ways of doing this.
I have been having a problem watching/recording shows, it looks like the playback video is torn for a micro second and then it looks fine for a few seconds. I copied the .mpeg file to a different computer and it looks fine with no distortion. So is the problem my video card, which is a Diamond Stealth (ATI 7000)??
I'm new there. I'd like to ask for help with using the GB-PVR. I followed the Quick Start procedure described on the site, but I found it not sufficient to get the soft up and running. I apologize if my question sounds stupid. I use Hauppauge PVR350 on Win 2K (latest driver etc).
Here's what I did:
1. Choosing EPG sources. I'm located in Belgium, so I had to use the XMLTV plugin. I was prompted to enter a XML file (XMLTV) that should contain information about the available channels. OK, I went to the linked xmltv web page and used the provided example to make a simple "my_channels.xml" with two channels only. This file was accepted, I successfully added a source in the list.
2. I then used the Tunning Assistant to find the channels available on my cable. I noted the channel number and the frequency for each channel. I suppose that this info should be somehow "given" to the GB-PVR...
3. Then I proceeded to the Config, Capture Sources, and clicked Add button to add a channel. Did not touch the rest of the settings in the Config, supposed the default values should work. I added a channel and assigned the number 29 (the number of one of the channels found by Tunning Assistant).
4. Proceed to the main window and clicked Live TV. For a couple of seconds I had a black screen and a message "Video is playign back using TV-out. Please use 'Home' to return to the main menu". Then I got a message "Failed to communicate with the recording service"
Questions:
1. Why does the soft complain that I'm using TV out? I did not activate it explicitly - is this a default setting? If so, how do I de-activate it?
2. Is this enough what I did - checking the channels with Tunning Assistant, writing down a channel number, then adding a channel in the source, assigning the number, then update EPG sources?
Would someone please tell me where am I going wrong?
Once again, sorry if the sounds stupid, but I couldn't find my way with the information on the website only. And I have almost no experience with TV tuner cards. Thanks
Why is it that GraphEdit cannot view the DirectShow graph that GBPVR is using? When I launch any other media player (WMP, Media Player Classic, Zoom Player) I can open GraphEdit and "connect to remote graph" and see exactly what codecs are being used by that stream. How come GBPVR is invisible? It's not a huge deal, but I'm just the investigative type and wondered why it's immune to graphedit.
Also, why do you only allow specific playback codecs to be selected in the config app? There are a number of codecs installed on my system that are not listed (Nero, DScaler) and I didn't realize why that was until I found the "allowed" list in one of the config files in the GBPVR directory... I prefer to use DScaler5 as my decoder, so if I can set it as my system default from OUTSIDE the config program, how come you won't let me choose it manually from INSIDE the config program?
Not trying to second guess your techniques, I was just curious as to why this was done...
