No disrespect intended for the authors of these fine tools/plugins, but they could use a bit better (or some at all) documentation. I've had little problems with the various plugins.
Things aren't as clear though when it comes to the various "recording managers". They seem to have evolved, and merged into other plugins. It's hard to tell what I should be using, and how.
I'm hoping if I explain how I'm trying to set things up, you fine folks can point me in the right direction.
I've pretty much decided upon using MyVideos as the front end to my collection. It has the wife-rating, and has support for PIN's, which is a must have now that the kids understand how to use this and no longer need me to start thier movies.
So, what I'd like to see, is some automation of what to record and when. From what I've seen, the various plugins do some, or all of this. I just haven't figured out which, and how
I want to:
- auto-schedule various tv shows, yet ignore episodes I've already recorded, and NOT based on the fact that the episodes are still on disk. Ideally, I'd like a somewhat easy way to say "re-record that one", in case the recording failed. I can manage with playing in a db if needed for this.
- auto-record any new movies that appear on a given channel, again, as long as I've not previously recorded it.
I *think* CDKrecord is what I want, but I'm not sure. Again, it's not clear how the various modules interact. I've seen some stuff in FastFind that allows setting some of this up. Xrecord seems to come into this, I think? I don't know
Now, once they've been recorded, and are sitting in the gbpvr recording area, I'd like a way to "move" them to MyVideos. I'd like to be able to "preview" the show, to see that it did record what I asked, and move it to one of 3 or 4 various directories that MyVideos works from. This is how I sort out the kids shows, tv shows and movies. Simply "moving" the files on disk, causes me to lose the description. While I can ask MyVideos to get the info again from IMDB/TV Tome, it's not always able to, so I like to carry the description forward.

The moving part I've somewhat sorted out with my own script I call from the Postprocess.bat. The downside is that I don't get to preview the recording, so failed recordings show up, and the wife and kids whine.
The auto-scheduling, I simply haven't been able to sort out which tools to use.
Im completely lost now I have Girder and this redeye serial. Does anyone have any "simple" instructions on how to set this up in GBPVR?
I have tested it with the demo software and it works changing channels but I have no idea how to set this up to run with GBPVR. :confused:
How about the ability to change the ending time of a recording in progress.
I'm thinking in terms of a sports program that may have started late or is running overtime. Right now, I can get around this by adjusting the clock on my GV-PVR box (after disabling automatic time updates) but this could be problematic if I have other recordings scheduled on my second source -- some juggling may be necessary to make sure the other source starts at the right time.
I hate joining forums for one reason only, but maybe this will be just the begining...
I was looking to try gb-pvr again because I couldn't before without a software recorder option. Now I can't get the file because I can't contact the server. No one else seems to have a copy of it either (searched FTP sites).
Does anyone have this hidden somewhere on their drive?
What is supposed to happen when there are changes to a program in the program guide. Here's the scenario:
-Running using a Zap2it feed for schedule data
-current day is Sunday
-Sports program is scheduled to run the following Saturday at 14:00
-set to record this sports program
-current day is not Tuesday
-same sports program changes start time to 13:00
Currently, the sports program will not only still want to start recording at 14:00, but the program guide will not have changed. I can live with that in that if it's important enough, I will usually double-check anyway. Lets face it, Zap2it isn't perfect either. I often also include lots of padding around the program, especially if it's a live program.
Is there any way to force GB-PVR to completely rebuild the program guide on an update? This would fix the guide program but I'm not sure what it would do to the scheduled recordings if things change.
Now this isn't a complaint, I'm just more trying to wrap my head around how it should behave. Quite honestly, considering the price of this fabulous software, I'm quite willing to put up with just about anything. I guess it's just a matter of knowing about it.
Does anybody know if there is a way to re-order a directory listing within, for example, a music plug-in?
I use MyMusic and would like to order the artist/album directory in LastName,FirstName order BUT have it displayed FirstName,LastName. I have used Library progs before that allow a displayed name, also the Outlook address book covers what I mean.
The tracks are not a problem as I rip them with TrackNumber preceeding TrackName.
I dont think you can permanantly re-order in Windows Explorer so, if not, could it be done in the plug-in or a skin?
All, I have been struggling with this for a week now. Is there a clear concise write-up somewhere of what to install to achive DivX / Xvid / AVI playback on an MVP?
So far I have installed ffdshow, but when I select my .avi from the MVP, TRANS2MVP always crashes on me. The MVP then resets itself (displays connecting to server...) and jumps back to the main menu.
