  Optimal system settings
Posted by: capone - 2005-02-17, 06:29 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (8)

Has anyone come across a guide for best setup of os/hw/bios for a pvr system?

All my years have been spent on optimizing systems that are home/work use, w/ many applications running at once and a lot of large and small files. I've never had a system that did just one thing w/ just a few large files like the pvr system.

I know there are plenty, but I'm looking for some that people have used and trust.

  -noborder command line switch
Posted by: reven - 2005-02-17, 05:01 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (2)

sub can you add a command line switch so the formborderstyle is "none" so no border is drawn at all. on my tv out the outer edges, white light is coming from the borders make it bright around the edges of my screen. you cant see the borders since they are offscreen but the light still comes through, and im afraid this will be burnt on to the edges of my screen, if the borders werent there at all this wouldnt be a problem. the "-noframe" still draws the borders. if you added "-noborders" this will be solved.

i could change the -pos:x,y,width,height more but if i do some of the menu wouldnt be visible.

cheers.
reven.

  Pausing TV
Posted by: knotboy - 2005-02-17, 03:23 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

Question:
If I pause my tv and hit play a few minutes later, I understand that the system will be recording while I watch the rest of the program (I am a few minutes behind). What if I want to quit watching that program and change the channel. It looks like GBPVR is still in record mode and will record any channel I switch to. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks

  Dumb newbie question
Posted by: Godfrey - 2005-02-17, 01:44 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Hi all, I just built a PVR machine, and bought a Hauppauge WinTV PVR2 to use with it.

If I plan to use only GB-PVR, do I need to install any of the Hauppauge software, or just the driver?

Thanks,
Godfrey

  little disk spacing - encoding?
Posted by: rpintor - 2005-02-17, 01:27 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

Hello all users.

I'm finally using GBPVR, andI want to develop an archive of Tv emissions, using the feature that allows multiple recordings at the same time, with two or more tuners.

I have around 60 Gbytes of free space in my HD, and two Hauppauge WinTV 350. I know gbpvr store recordings in MPEG-2 format, my question is:

What can I do (post-processing, plugins, etc) to reduce the amount of disk space used in each recording? The quality is not a problem, it's only for a documentation use of the files.

Thanks a lot for every answer, regards.

  Max number of tuners
Posted by: rykr - 2005-02-17, 07:02 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (10)

I seem to get the impression that GB-PVR can only handle two tuners right now. Is this true? If so, how likely is it that a future version can handle more? As many as 4 tuners?

I'm at a loss... I just can't figure out how to enable the live tv mini guide while watching TV.  I want to use the mini guide like in this pic:

I've installed that skin... am I missing a plugin for it?

  Playing DVDs
Posted by: Deamon_Knight - 2005-02-17, 04:21 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

I'm trying to get DVDs to play through GB-PVR but It keeps saying there is no DVD in the specified drive. I've checked the settings and the drive is correct, and I can play DVDs outside of GB-PVR with ATIs software, so I'm not sure what the problem is, any advice?

  Hauppauge remote
Posted by: sean - 2005-02-17, 03:22 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

I just upgrade to 9010 and still my remote is not working. It works for 50 or 60 minutes then stops. I do a restart on the irremote and I get an error message stating that it failed to initialize hardware. It does work longer on this version then the previous one. What should I try? The only way to get it to work in a restart.

Configuration
Under recording source I have no channel changer required. If I select this the remote never works.
Under the misc tab I have use direct access to Hauppauge remote checked
And remote control type default Hauppauge.

I am not sure if this is the new 45 button remote or not it has 4 color buttons at the bottom.

Padding and losing start of subsequent recordings
Posted by: kevbo - 2005-02-17, 03:08 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

I've started a previous thread, and since starting it, realized that the subject and overall content don't quite address the real problem, so I'm starting another one, hoping to get attention.

The scheduling logic changed in .908 (and remains changed in .910). The change comes into play with padding time.

Assume you have a show scheduled from 8-9 on one channel, and another from 9-10 on another channel. Both have 1 minute pre-padding and 2 minutes post-padding.

Before .908, the 8-9 show would forgo its post-padding, and the recording would switch to the new channel (and file) at 9:00. Now, the 8-9 show gets its 2 minutes of padding, and the second show doesn't start until 9:02.

If this is what was intended, can I request a way to change the behavior?

This new behavior has caused me to miss the first two minutes of several shows. It has only been in the last 24 hours that I really figured out what was going on, and that the behavior had changed.

(My other point is, in the case where you have two tuners and the second one is unused, it could be used for the second show. It appears that a second tuner isn't used unless the actual scheduled start and stop times overlap, for example, when I'm recording something from 8-9, and a second show from 8:59-10. In that case, the second tuner would be used. There's no reason it couldn't also be used if I have an 8-9 and a 9-10, allowing both recordings to have their full pre and post padding.)

Thanks for any comments/help. (And thanks for the program!Wink
