It would be a big help for my current (admittedly cockamamy) set-up if I had the option to use the episode title (where available from zap2it) in the naming of the files that GBPVR produces.
Currently I get:
Gilmore Girls_200500208_17001800.mpg
But if I could get:
Gilmore Girls_200500208_17001800_Rorys Dance.mpg
(where the title of the episode is included in the title (sans special characters, limited to a certain number, skipped if missing, etc...), with the date and time still there for uniqueness and easy ordering) then I could more easily organize and archive these for (say) DVD-R burning, or off-box archiving.
As it stands I am using a laptop with a small harddrive in my experimental GBPVR setup. It has been so awesome so far that I basically fill my harddrive up almost every other day and end up moving the stuff (for now at least) off box for later viewing. (I am GBPVRing a Buck Rogers marathon right now almost by accident "record all episodes" ...but once I move them off tonight I will lose the handy title placing in GBPVR).
Currently I do not have viewing really worked out very well. I do not have a MediaMVP (nor would that work very well with the small drive I am working with so far). My Inspiron does have a TV-Out though and with $9 in cables I am able to watch files on the TV.
The way I watch things right now though involves downloading them back to the laptop for TV play, and then their information is lost to GBPVR. Since most description/tv-guide type of stuff is geared toward what is on in the future, I have no good way to find out which episode:
Gilmore Girls_200500125_17001800.mpg
is without skimming the show for clues.
Another idea would be to have the option of outputting a text file with the title and full description of everything recorded, like:
(I know I know, just get a big harddrive and a media mvp.)
One reason I am suggesting (wishing for?) this is that I am considering long term solutions that do not involve having a PC in the livingroom. With 802.11g etc... there should be more "media server -> snazzy living-room component" solutions (like they have for mp3, only bigger bandwidth).
Perhaps someday I will have a cable-box in the office, connecting to my GBPVR and dumping everything to a drive that is available for streaming to a wireless-network mpg/avi player connected to the TV in the livingroom (the title names would come in extremely handy with that implementation for instance).
I have been experimenting with making a new skin for this great app but if I make a background with a gradient it looks terrible on the TV output of my 350. The vertical gradient outputs as a number of horizontal stripes.
I have taken some of the core functions of the Video Archiver plug-in and some of the common functions implemented by sub in his example plug-ins and packaged them into a library of common GBPVR utilities designed to hide some of the complexity of building plug-ins. I have also written a very small example plug-in that shows how to use the utilities to create a simple video file lister/player plug-in. I have not yet posted the library and sample, but a sneak-peak help-file is posted at the wiki site
I've tried to build a PVR with my old 800mhz Duron processor, however I've found my live TV doesn't play very well. So, I guess I need to know what I should buy -
I'm currently running a PVR-250 with an old ATI All-In-Wonder AGP card for video out. I will someday add a second tuner - likely a PVR-150. And I want my video to look great.
What AMD processor should I get (keeping in mind I work for a living).

One feature that would make sense would be to have the TV change channel if it starts recording to that channel.
If you're watching and had a record set in case you weren't around, being kicked out to the guide is jarring. More so since you can't just play from the guide, and need to back out to record, go to the recording, and play from there (so this would be nice, too).
A nice add-on related to this would be to be able set a show to watch, but not record. This would take you to a preset show when it comes on, using the same scheduling that you use to set to record.
I recently switched from SageTV to GB-PVR for several reasons. I like that there are a lot of independent developers out there developing add-ons.
One question on searching. SAGETV has search options based on keywords. For instance, if I put the word Black Eyed Peas in the search bar, it will tell me every upcoming show in the database where they will appear (or anyone named black eyed peas will appear). This is an awesome function.
SAGETV also allows you to pick favorites based on Actor or even Genre. Does anyone know if there is something developed that allows you to do the same with GB-PVR?
I've had problems getting the schedule function to work. There is an xml file that was missing (priorityrecording.xml) I just created a blank file and called it that, but that didn't seem to take care of the problem. Can anyone help?
I've added and played around with a few plugins and although I have no problems with the use of the program (it records fine) it is now taking 1 minute and 5 secs to start up.
Sub, if you have a few minutes, can you please check my config file and see what might be slowing this down?

after setting up GBPVR on my home PC (3.2 GHz Intel, Hauppauge 150 MCE), I'm thinking about building a 'pvr-server' from an old computer but am uncertain about the minimum hardware requirements for it. I have an old Pentium III machine available and would add the Hauppauge MCE-150 card and a larger harddrive to it. The MB might be upgradeable to a PIII 800 or maybe 1 GHZ processor.
The system should just be controlled via the network and store the recorded files so I can access them from either my home office PC or media adapter attached to my TV, so the only job for this machine would be to record and serve the video files.
Does anyone have experience with such a low level system and gbpvr?
This may not be a gb-pvr problem but here goes. I use gb-pvr through a PVR350. All is well except when the box comes back from a power resume GB-PVR is not displayed on the TV. If I log into the box remotely with Ultr@VNC I can see GB-PVR and it is in the forground. TV displays the colour bars. I have tried all sorts of things. If I stop and start GB-PVR then I can see it on the TV. I am running .908. This is a new build and new hardware that I bought for the job. No antiVirus SW etc. Everything else is fine.
