I've got a PVR-150, using cable in Canada. There are two channels that occasionally don't have any sound. Using WinTV2000 I have fine tuned both channels +2 and the sound returns. How do I do this within GBPVR? I've recorded some silent shows recently.

I get this error randomly (but, oddly, more often while watching Fox...maybe coinincidence). Something like, "error playing back file"

It's happening exactly on the switch from the show ending to the one begining. It's seems obvious it's trying to start the new file for live viewing and failing. It's just odd I don't see it mentioned often.

Not an end of happiness issue, but one I've found.

Hi there, i assume probably a couple of guys out there have TSReader
to make it compatible with gb-pvr just configure the vlc section with this setting.
<IP> out=#duplicate{dst=std{access=file,mux=ps,url="C:\buffer.mpg"}}
and simply access the buffer file. gb-pvr will simply play the file..

my copy of tsreader is on a remote computer. i simple broadcast out and then access the upd stream with another copy of tsreader on the client and write it to the drive- then access the buffer file

the nice think is about tsreader It will produce an epg guide right off the sats up to a nine day guide..

the only thing on gb-pvr part it need to have capture source called tsreader that would generate the commandline to send to tsreader..

Probably could have added to previous thread, but thought there were enough new questions here.

I'd also like to ask:

1) For people using the PVR-250/150 for input and XCard for tv-out. Are you using any kind of SFF package? I've just been looking through the Asus, Shuttle, etc boxes and they all have 1 PCI and 1 AGP slot. The Xcard is PCI, so I can't use both.

2) What are people using for SFF in general? This thing has to sit next to my TV and be quiet. I'd also like direct access to the system from my TV so I can play divx, avi etc (hopfully by "just" minimizing gbpvr and keeping it recording).

3) Assuming I can't put the xcard in a shuttle box, what is an AGP card with good tv-out. This will be a stand alone gbpvr.

4) What is the advantage of using the XCard/250 combo vs. the 350. It looks like the Xcard plays divx (hardware decode?). Can the windows desktop be displayed through the Xcard? If not, not sure I see the benefit.

5) How about the built-in tv out on the Shuttle XPCs? I'm looking at the SK83G. Anyone use this or similar with gb-pvr?

when using MVP Hauppauge original program is it possible to press a digit e.g. 3 go get 30% into the video or 6 for 60%. Would that be possible i GB-PVR?

for several weeks now i was looking at a lot of different HTPC programs. Installing them, configuring them and always thinking how to get the most out of them with plugins etc. It even started to be a hobby for me and i spend a lot of time in it.

Sadly i discovered GB-PVR last Friday and installed it.
Well ... now my hobby is gone ... everything works like i want it to work ... what am i going to do in my spare time now ? :-)

Now here is a list of htpc Software i tested with advantages and disadvantages ... feel free to add your experience:

-Showshifter 1-3.x : The best recording profiles of all htpc software and it uses very little ressources ... great for software capture cards ! However no real support for standby,hibernate and a very slow development. The modules (music,pictures) have very few features

-GotTV : Didn't work stable for me .. a lot of crashes. Bad GUI. The configuration was also not very easy

-SageTV : It didn't work with my PVR 150 MCE PAL. It is a known bug with the PAL version of this card. From what i could see i didn't like the user interface very much. Besides it is expensive.

-BeyondTV : I didn't look at this piece any closer. Its also pretty expensive

-Meedio : Looks promising but still a real beta and not working stable for me

-TVCentral : This is the german version of a htpc software based on the meedio core. It currently looks better then meedio, has a good user interface, supports standby (with sleeptimer plugin). I was close to buying it but didn't like the politics of the company. For example club user get reduced prices, epg with all channels costs 2,50Euro / month instead of less then 1 Euro etc ). Its biggest disadvantage was, that you couldn't do manual record at all ! The support was/is bad and the CPU usage was very high even with hardware card (50%)

-MediaPortal : Very good and open source software !!! Worked very well with my software hauppauge WinTV PCI FM card. Great search features in epg (in description or categories). However after i bought my PVR 150 MCE i discovered, that it records only in dvr-ms format with hardwarecards which is simply crap ! Only WindowsXP can read this format out of the box (and only with MediaPlayer 9/10).... no easy DVD burning etc.


So my conclussion is, that GB-PVR is simply the best htpc sofware for cable users. I wonder why so few useres are in this forum. I discoverd GB-PVR only by chance and i think many people just miss it because it is not really advertised. There is only one software i know of which is better and its called LinVDR. However its a Linux system and the it only works with Full Feature card which cost more than 200$ in germany. It is also only really usefull for Sat users since at least in germany we have only very few digital cable channels.

I want to thank the developers and especially sub very much for their great work and of course i will donate for this great software ! Actually this software is worth more than all the commercial software out there and not donating something is a crime imho. Even a student can earn 10$/hour so there are no excuses !

The only things i still wish for GB-PVR is, that it also lets search you in the description and that we get a new release where the epg in the TVGuide shows something after 2.2.2005 :-).

The last wish which will most likely never become true is a faster channel switching. As it is now i will use GB-PVR never for fast zapping. This is the only thing all the other htpcs software do better but its a architecture problem i think. I also like the 0 % cpu usage while recording very much which compesates for this.
I even tried to use a ramdisk because i thought that this would allow me faster channel switching but it didn't help !?!

By the way what does GB (in GB-PVR) stand for ?

I've downloaded the lastest version several times - every time I try to install I get an error. It's occured to me that this is an update file and not the full GBPVR, but I can find no documentation or information to this effect. Futher, older version of GBPVR seem to have broken links. When I install, it says that I need to "notify the application vendor to verfity that it is a valid windows installer package".

I'm missing some sort of secret code or knowldege here apparently.
What's my next step?

Note: I've installed the mirosoft.net file so that's not the problem.
Also, my download seems to hang at 99% forever - if that helps isolate the problem.

It would be nice if the readme files in the plugin zips contained all the default button behaviours for us noobs.

Where does the MVP get the menu items to display? I've downloaded the excellent My series of plugins and created menu subdirectories to organize things a little better but the MVP menu has not changed. Everything has been rebooted (PC, router/bridge, MVP). I had this problem a while back but when I started to investigate they started working so I quit. Any help will be appreciated.

I have 2 channel sources.

1. Cable
2. Only one constant channel from satellite. (Yes, I'm using Dish Network for just one foreign channel)

Can I feed the constant channel on svideo input and the cable connection to the tuner input?

Will this setup work or do I still need 2 tuner for this?
