I have seen the MVP and was amazed. But as usual Hauppauge has developed a good product with a poor software. Thats why I've searched the Net for alternatives and found GBPVR. (PS: Maybe you know more Mod-Projects on MVP???)
By searching this forum I found infos about the XCard.

So I tried to find out what solution will fit my needs (recording TV/Video and playing nearly all video formats on TV).
I want you to help me and others who have the same decision problems between MVP and the XCard.


As far as I read in this forum (and others) the differences are:

MVP:
+ Higher Screen solution for the menue of GBPVR
+ Connected via LAN -> more flexibility
--- no avi/divx/xvid support
--- No AC3 support
-- No direct DVD support
- Some resolution/aspect ratio problems with Hauppauge software (don't know about GBPVR)


XCard:
+++ Plays avi/divx/xvid (also supported via GBPVR???)
++ AC3 supported
++ Allows direct playing of DVDs
+ Better picture quality
-- just 256 colors for the menue of GBPVR on tv-screen


Maybe you can tell more eg. about stability, handling, and so on

PS: I intend to use GBPVR with the Hauppauge PVR 150

yesterday I saw a film with gbpvr and my media-mvp.
After 10 minutes I've used the recording-butting and the osd has showed "recording".
Today I'm searching for this movie: There is nothing.

I believe, this function does not work, when there is no epg-data for a channel. Is this correct ?
I've 15 channels with no epg-data (new pay-tv-channels) and 150 channels with epg-data. It only does'nt work in channels without epg-data. Is there a solution for this problem ?

In fact I have to different questions.

First, which is the best way to find channels in GBPVR, because there is two channels missing for me that I can't find, but if I use another app to watch TV I can find them.

Second, does I have to record if I use GBPVR? Because it's recording all the time, even if I only choose to watch LiveTV.

Hope u guys out there understand my problems and can help me out.

I can play any xVid, divX or DV file without any problems at all on my lo-tech system. But the mpegs that my WinTV USB2 card generates are very stuttered when played on the specific hardware. The recordings are stored locally on the same machine that's supposed to play them (Machine data listed below)

If I however connects to the computer where the movie is located and play it on a speedier computer it works great. So it can't be the harddisk that's too slow.

I notice that the mpeg2 files my TV-card generates are rather big, almost 2G per hour. I thought this meant that the compression was less meaning that it should be less computer demanding to play them. This seams to not be the case.

Any idea on how I can solve this, are there any differense in speed between various decoders etc?

I guess one solution could be to re-encode the files to xvid. But that seems a bit overkill for tv-shows I just want to see once.

For some reason, my EPG is not automatically updating. If I do a manual update from the config screen, it updates just fine. I'm using zap2it and it's been working until recently (a couple weeks ago). It's set to update at 3:00AM and the system is always on at that time. I haven't changed anything in the system (that I know of). Is there any particular XP service that must be running for the scheduled updates to happen? Any ideas? Which log file should I look in for a clue as to what's happening? I'm running the latest GB-PVR release.

Otherwise, it's working great. I even got my second PVR150MCE to work so I can record two programs at once, so I'm pleased.

I'm building my PVR/Media box currently and made a big mistake. I ordered the mATX mboard and case, but I neglected to account for the slimline pci slots on the case I got. Anybody familiar with a good slimline pci capture card that GB-PVR supports? If necessary, I could just go with one of the USB 2.0 devices, but I'd like everything to be contained in a nice small case.

Any suggestions would help.

I have been trying to add functionality to my panel to display the currently playing audio track. I am implementing the IEventNotification interface. I receive CurrentAudioTrack events when a new track start up just fine, but I never receive any events to tell me the track is complete. I thought I might get a MusicStopping event, but I don’t. Am I doing something wrong? I know I could poll the PlayList to see if something is still playing, but that seems resource intensive and defeats the whole reason to use events in the first place.

I have to restart gb-pvr recording service a lot to get the webserver to start talking again. It seams to happen a few times a day where it refuses connections. Is this something that is known? Is there a fix for it?

I believe something like this has already been asked for, but I'd like to bring it out again...

It would be really great if we could get the EPG and LiveTV at the same time. There are various ways that this could be accomplished:

1) Overlay a transparent EPG onto the live TV.
2) Have a mini Live TV beside the description box in the EPG.
3) Have a mini EPG in a corner of LiveTV.

I'm sure others methods could be thought of as well.

Regardless, I would love to be able to surf the EPG while still being able to watch whatever channel I was last looking at.

Kworld Card (newegg link).

It says it does Mpeg1/2/4 in "Real-Time" but I'm not sure if that is true or if it still is doing it through software (which I assume due to the low price).

Let me know- because I consider myself somewhat saavy- but I'm at a loss with this card.

If it turns out not to have mpeg2 encoding then can you tell me what card is the CHEAPEST possible solution? My problem is I have everything I need to put a full PVR solution together Except the tv tuner card (I'm using a leadtek 2000xp deluxe- which I know is using software encoding). My other problem is that I'm cheap.
