I just installed GB-PVR last night in a brand new Dell desktop with an AverMedia M150 and RADEON X300. I've heard that there can be various things wrong when Live TV is not working. I can record TV, and I can watch it, but no Live TV.

At first I installed PowerDVD, and tried VMR9, 7 and Overlay Manager settings. None worked for Live TV. I would just be sent back to the Main Menu. Then I uninstalled that, rebooted, and installed WinDVD. Now I get a blank screen.

Also, with PowerDVD I was able to use fast forward while watching recorded TV. Now, with WinDVD, I cannot, in fact the menu (ff, rw, title, etc) is stuck on the screen but unusable.

I have a PVR-250, XP.
When recording with GBPVR, the sound is metalic, and the video freeze a little every second (changing recording size and rate changes nothing), same Pb with liveTV when I pause, but in that case it freeze for many seconds.
WINTV2000 works fine with recording.
What did I wrong? I tested Live TV and pause before I install my Sound blaster 5.1 sound card, it worked fine.

Here is a small compilation of suggestions I have for you after having test driven your very cool PVR software for the past two days. Some of these suggestions are derived from my prior experience with a commercial DVR set-top-box from my previous cable company (model was a Scientific Atlanta 8000 dual-tuner DVR). I apologize in advance if there is any redundancy with previously submitted suggestions from other people (I did my best to search the forums beforehand).

1) After having finished watching a recorded show (i.e. I have fully watched it or I am pressing the stop button), it would be useful to be asked if I want to delete the show I just watched. This was the case with my previous DVR and is a convenient shortcut instead of having to go to the list of recorded shows and delete it manually from there. The assumption I am making here is that people normally want to delete shows they have finished watching to conserve disk space.

2) When stopping the playback of a recorded show, it would be cool if there was a way to resume it later on. On my previous DVR, when choosing to play a recorded show, it would ask me if I want to watch it from the beginning or from where I left off last time. This could be achieved by storing a text file (similar to the comskip text file) that keeps track of the position where one pressed stop during playback.

3) Similarly, if I am in the process of watching Live TV but want to just quickly go through the TV Guide to see what else is on, it might be useful to automatically pause (and keep paused) the show I am currently watching in case I change my mind and return to it without having choosen a different show. Alternatively, a full OSD version of the TV Guide that can be superimposed on top of a running live show would be even cooler. The mini guide is halfway there already, but a full version would be fantastic. On my previous DVR, when pressing the guide button, it would switch to a view where I could still see the current tv show in the upper right hand corner (similar to PIP), while the remaining real estate of the screen was used to display the program grid and detail information about the selected shows.

4) During playback of a show that is still in the process of being recorded (timeshift): When I catch up with 'real time' during fast forward, it should switch to 'play' and disallow any further forwarding. Currently, it just stops the playback and requires me to watch the show from the beginning again.

5) After having scheduled a future recording, it would be useful if it were possible to later on alter recording options such as the recording quality without having to cancel that recording and reschedule it with modified settings.

6) I noticed that when I cancelled a running recording, it doesn't automatically disappear from the 'pending' view (the partially recorded show should disappear from 'pending' and now be in 'ready'. It only disappears when going away and returning to the 'pending' view. Not a biggie, just a minor bug.

P.S.: I should have mentioned that I am using the MediaMVP as playback device. Just in case that there are differences in behavior between it and the GB-PVR viewer application.

I have a few Manual Recordings showing up in the "Manage Recordings" list on the web managment page, but not in the "Recordings" listing in the GBPVR interface.

Anyone seen that before?

Any way to get rid of them? Thanks.

I just finally started using GBPVR with the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 MCE and the MediaMVP. Is there a way to customize a scheduled recording so it happens only once a week?

If this doesn't exist it would be nice to have. The scheduling system that GBPVR has right now isn't very intuitive. If I just want to record "The Simpsons" on Sundays, right now I have to edit the config.xml file to change the TimeAllowance from 120min to about 5min. I should be able to specify: Record this show only on this day.

I don't know if this feature is already available and that's why I didn't post this thread in the Wishlist area.

How's about various speed with FFW/REW like TiVo?
Push once = normal ffw/rew
Push again = 2X ffw/rew
Push third time = 4X ffw/rew
Push Fourth time = play

For anyone struggling with their Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 350 locking up in software and/or hardware output mode, you should try the new drivers.  I'm running an Asus P4C800 with an Intel 875P chipset & Pentium 4 2.4Ghz with Hyperthreading on Windows XP Home.  Previously I could sometimes get the hardware output to work in WinTV2000 here and there, but was far from stable.  Even the software output locked up occassionally, requiring a "soft reload".  Many recordings either from GV-PVR or the WinTV Scheduler would end up being small empty files.  The GB-PVR OSD would immediately cause the card to lockup in hardware output mode and was unusuable to me.

I tried everything to get it working, including setting cpu affinity, disabling hyperthreading, and every other tip & trick I could find with no avail.  I was living with the software mode, which pretty much sucks once you've seen hardware mode, and I noticed this last weekend that new drivers, version PVR250_22_22292 were available on Hauppauge's site.  I followed their prior driver removal instructions and installed the new ones and applications and it now works perfectly.  I've been running on the new drivers for four days now with absolutely no lockups whatsoever.  Even the GB-PVR OSD works now in hardware output mode.  No more of the occasional stuttering after pausing or fast forwarding recorded video.

I hope others are having the success that I now am, I was starting to debate Ebaying the 350 in favor of another card since the software output was not what I was looking for.

I wonder if anybody can explain the following

I have been using GBpvr for a few months now without problems
with a pvr350, a telewest cable box and a mvp unit

but all of sudden all my scheduled recordings failed to record anything

the directory would be created and the tray icon would go green to show the recording service was active, but no output mpg file was ever created. If you looked during the recording the directory was empty then as well.

At first I assumed that I wasn't getting a signal from my cable box, but I could watch Live Tv without problem including pausing it !!

after trying various options of rebooting, re-installing etc etc nothing seemed to solve problem

as a last resort I tried the hauppauge wintv application which recorded perfectly.

and most strange of all after using wintv gb-pvr is recording happily again

can anybody suggest what the problem might have been

Currently I have a single-tuner set up but am considering buying a second capture card and getting a second cable box. If I do, do I need to also get a second IR blaster, or can a single IR blaster be configured to control two cable boxes. Obviously, I'll have to set the second cable box on a different frequency/channel for receiving IR commands. But can an IR blaster like the Actisys support sending signals to two different cable boxes?

This is a shameless plug for the new LCD Plugin that can be downloaded from the plugins page.

This plugin requires jaLCDs to drive an LCD or VFD (check http://www.jalcds.de to find out if your display is supported). All the plugin does is set a number of variables based on values reported by GB-PVR. Using jaLCDs' configuration tool you can define the layout of the screens that display the values of these variables anyway you want.

I hope this plugin is of use to some of you.
