  Variable Bit Rate
Posted by: ajh499 - 2004-08-20, 04:19 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

Does GBPVR Support Variable bit rates or is everything always constant bit rate?

The problem is that the files created with CBR seem to be much larger than they really need to be. I know I can always re-encode but I would prefer not to have to take two steps.

Any help would be appreciated

Alex

  Pending/reoccurring not listed
Posted by: Jurgen - 2004-08-20, 04:10 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

First my compliments for this great application!
Second: I'm impressed that sub keeps up with the enorm amount of messages in the support forum.

Sometimes my overview of reoccurring recordings was incomplete or empty. Finaly I discovered a way to reproduce it (v19 and v20):

main menu -> recordings -> ready -> scroll to the last recording (on second page) in my case the 18th -> reocurring: empty

'Pending' is at that point also empty.

(I'm using the mouse)

Workaround is easy:
back to main menu -> recordings -> reocurring

Finaly something for the wish list: is it possible to show a symbol at the top and the bottom of a view when the list continues outside the view.

Success,
Jurgen

setting the recording quality (high/medium/live tv
Posted by: tmc - 2004-08-20, 03:15 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (12)

can someone tell me how can i set the recording quality. my TV card type is Generic Conexant Blackbird. i understand that the Medium quality is automatically used when doing quick record and the LiveTV quality is used when watching live TV. I have changed these two in the settings to be at 2000 Kbps for video and 224 for audio. however, this seems to have no impact on the recordings. my recordings are always at 2.5GB/hour (which is the original setting of 5000Kbps for video i believe) which I think is way too high. i want to change this to abour 1.5GB/hr. i would appreciate if someone can tell me how i can do this. thanks.

  High Definition
Posted by: CodeMonkey - 2004-08-20, 01:58 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (43)

I have a friend who runs Windows MCE as his PVR. I have been trying to get him to change to GBPVR. Up until now he has been happy with MCE so he didn't switch. But now he has a nice High Definition setup (110" screen and kick ass surround sound, like watching TV in a movie theater!Wink, and when I mentioned GBPVR again he said it would be worth it to him to change if GBPVR would work fully in HD mode. So my questions are:

1) Will GBPVR do HD?

2) If yes, what cards (capture and tv out) are recommended?

3) If no, is support planned?

Thanks (as always) sub.

  Supported Cards
Posted by: leek - 2004-08-20, 01:33 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

A friend just gave me a Hauppage WinTV FM card (no PVR mentioned - I think it might be a 'To GO' version) for free.

Is there any way to get this PCI card running with GBPVR - the card isn't mentioned in the settings and I have tried various combinations of other setting with no success. I just get the 'failed to communicate with recording service' message.

Or is it a case of this card just being no good for the task.

TIA

TV Guide time zone shift ?
Posted by: agb1 - 2004-08-20, 09:05 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

Hello All !
Could anyone please help me to find out if there is a way to set time correction for TV Guide ? I.e. - if I am in Europe (GMT+1) and receive let's say BBC listing from UK (with time set to GMT) - that would give me 1 hour shift. Of cause it's possible to set computer clock to GMT [Image: biggrin.gif] - but may be there is a better way ?

  miniguide issue
Posted by: dottore - 2004-08-20, 06:59 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

yesterday i updated to the ne release. first of all: great changes, the tv-guide-screen is much better now.

when i press pause in live-tv no osd is displayed. pressing the blue button or play shows it again. when i pause, then rewind, then play the picture freezes. when i click play again gbpvr exits live-tv and goes back to main menu.

there is no mini-guide-information available. my epg didn't change, the tv-guide is populated, but the minguide says that there is no information.

when i want to jump to a channel by number i can see the number displayed in the left corner. pressing enter changes to the same channel (the picture flickers, pauses and then plays again).

sorting the music library causes a .net-error: "Der Objektverweis wurde nicht auf eine Objektinstanz festgelegt" -> this means something like: "the object-reference points to no object-instance" (bad translation, sorry). i get this error when there are folders in the music library. sorting subfolder containing only files brings no error, but i cannot see any sorting.

again, thanks for the new release! if it helps, i can reproduce the errors and send you the log-files.

edit: i found another problem: everytime gbpvr updates the epg-data it adds the channels to the bottom of the old ones. yesterday i had 34 channels, a few minutes ago i had 68 and now there are more than 90 channels. every channel is displayed 3 times and they are absolutely the same.

I tried the new feature to turn off the 350 OSD but it still locks up when I try to change the chanel. Any idea what else might be going on here?
