Apologies for starting a new thread but I think it is worth doing so now that I have a reasonable idea of the blaster utilities and commands required to operate my IPTV STB.

What I didn’t realise was there is a whole industry surrounding IPTV channel zapping (it even has a name!) with lots of research papers etc etc.

Anyway, whilst sub has patiently explained the whole IR Blasting process is SLOW and the technology hasn't changed i.e. it remains a crude simualtiuon of someone pressing a remote, the thing I still don’t understand is that when I just plug the STB to my HDMI Monitor (or TV) the remote presses are reliable.

I have purposely not mentioned instantaneous as sub has explained that the whole NPVR Client->NextPVR Server->IR Blaster (USB or Capture Card based)->STB->Capture Card->PC->Client->TV is slow, as above. I don't really care about the speed of the channel change TBH I don't channel surf (at least not right now).

However as I mostly watch recorded programs, I need to know it is going to be reliable and record the show I need.

I did a couple of trials as follows:

1. STB -> direct to HDMI Monitor, changing channels using STB remote - fastest changes (as expected) but also reliable; even after I did many changes sequentially.
   
2. STB -> [b]direct to HDMI Monitor, changing channels using USBUIRT (manual zap using cmd + a uutx batch) [/b]- reasonably fast changes (as expected) also reliable, even after I did many changes sequentially.
   
3. STB->Colossus in PC, NextPVR changing channels using USBUIRT (uutx-based batch) - slow changes (as explained) but unreliable, especially after I did a number of channel changes sequentially. I tried this with various permutations of "Restart on Live TV Channel Change" and "
   

• Why is (3) unreliable? See these pictures on another thread for examples of missing channel digits (1st, middle, last...).
  
• How do I improve the reliability of STB channel changing?
  
• What governs it?
  • Would a better / faster capture card (I have a Colossus I (HDPVR) which this thread suggests might be an issue?) take something out of the time needed for the change? I am more than happy to buy a new capture device if this will likely help.
    
  • Do IPTV STBs have some sort of buffer that needs to empty before you can "zap" the next channel
    
• My config.xml shows <HDPVRBufferLonger>false</HDPVRBufferLonger>. Would setting this to true help?
  
• My config.xml shows <WaitLongerDelay>6500</WaitLongerDelay>; would changing this help? Appreciate that referred thread back at 3.3.8 was fixed by sub via a patch for that posters problem.
  

Just upgraded to 4.2.4 and discovered the above mentioned. MPEG1 audio and LAV decoder, renderer(s) set to default. Are there any obvious pitfalls I'm not aware of?

Edit: Funny, after reviewing settings and saving them things seems to work ok again... ??

I always thought Nextpvr in Kodi was getting the Genre/Category from my XMLTV file. Looking at 3rd Rock from the Sun (listed as a Sitcom in my xmltv file) it is listed in the epg as Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror. Similarly Bewitched an old 60's sitcom is also listed as Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror. Some sitcoms are listed as Comedies although the xmltv file has a category of Sitcom. Just curious the source of what is being shown in the epg. Thanks.

Fresh install of latest NextPVR (4.2.4) with new Hauppauge WinTV DCR-3250 Cablecard Receiver on Windows 7 Pro 64bit system. Tuner paired with cable provider. Wintv web page (192.168.1.89) shows channels detected. Live TV/ Record works in Windows Media Center. But NextPVR does not detect receiver in setting>devices. Disabled Comodo firewall > no change. Network setup as Home Network.

Any suggestions for things to check? Logs attached.

Updated to the latest NPVR Release and am now getting an Import Error when trying to reload my EPG XML.

Unable to read: xxxxxxx.xml
The Remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error.

When i load the link in my browser the file downloads perfectly.

Would anyone happen to know if there’s a way to get my Xtream-editor’s EPG inserted into NextPVR?

Hi All.
I have previously used NextPVR by directly connecting the PC to the TV. However, i now have a Sony Andriod TV. So figured Id load up Kodi and trial the PVR addon. However, I have loaded the addon only to be greated with "Add-on couldnt be loaded. An unknown error has occured". Is there something I am missing? is this supported on Andriod TV?

An annoying blinking light on the PC when it sleeps (this is the stated behaviour of my new MB) can be solved by setting ErP to on in the BIOS (or by the less desirable yank-the-Motherboard-LED connector-altogether-method), but I am not sure if this will mean NPVR does not wake to record any more; what is the experience and or consenus here?

"ErP Support determines whether to let the system consume less than 1W of power in S5 (shutdown) state. When the setting is enabled, the following four functions will become unavailable: PME Event Wake Up, Power On By Mouse, Power On By Keyboard, and Wake On LAN."

Upgraded to NPVR 4.2.4. Now in Video Library there is no folder art only a white folder - the fanart still shows as the background image.
I use Media Companion to generate all the art for each show in box sets - Show poster in the Upper Folder, Season Poster in the Season Folder etc. all stored as folder.jpg - Worked well until today.

If you need logs I'll have to wait a few hours to get them.

The new update of 4.2.4 does not have a way to search for episodes. It is also missing the configuration settings to change the theme.
