Linux install failed -- permission denied?
Posted by: FrogFan - 2025-03-25, 07:11 PM - Forum: Linux - Replies (4)

Hello,

I'm trying my hand at Linux, trying to salvage a perfectly good desktop PC that can't run Windows 11.  I've chosen Linux Mint, and I'd like to run NextPVR on it.  I believe I've followed sub's installation instructions correctly, as follows:

ed@lacrosse:~$ curl https://nextpvr.com/nextpvr-helper.deb -O
% Total    % Received % Xferd  Average Speed  Time    Time    Time  Current
Dload  Upload  Total  Spent    Left  Speed
100  4464  100  4464    0    0  34696      0 --:--:-- --:--:-- --:--:-- 34875

followed by:

ed@lacrosse:~$ sudo apt install ./nextpvr-helper.deb --install-recommends

After issuing the apt install command, the command line window filled up with output which I have not copied here to save space, but I can recreate it if necessary.  Of particular importance, though, it seems, is the last few lines of output:

Setting up libmediainfo-dev (24.01+dfsg-1build2) ...
Setting up nextpvr-helper (3.1) ...
HOME=/home/ed
Processing triggers for man-db (2.12.0-4build2) ...
Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.39-0ubuntu8.4) ...
N: Download is performed unsandboxed as root as file '/home/ed/nextpvr-helper.deb' couldn't be accessed by user '_apt'. - pkgAcquire::Run (13: Permission denied)

I'm basically a Linux idiot, so I have no idea what happened here.  Can anyone tell what I've done wrong, or do I need to send more information?

Edited to add: Well, I decided to go to localhost:8866 and I ended up in the right spot, so I'll try to configure NextPVR there. Meanwhile, I'm still wondering if I did something wrong to end up with the "permission denied" error.

Another edit: I just finished configuring NextPVR using localhost:8866 and all is well. I guess I didn't do anything wrong?

Thanks!

  Default playlist
Posted by: fkirungi - 2025-03-25, 06:20 PM - Forum: Docker amd64 - Replies (6)

Hello,
Does NextPVR come with a default playlist? If so, how do I get to it and what is its path? If not, what is the recommended path (with path format)?
I have NextPVR installed on an Asustor NAS. I need to import a playlist. Strangely, NextPVR claims the absolute path doesn't exist, although I can see it with ssh and my other apps can get to it.
NextPVR is installed under Docker but the playlist is outside Docker. My idea is simply to copy and paste over the default playlist if it exists. I guess I still have to provide its path.

Lightbulb More translations
Posted by: calande - 2025-03-24, 10:51 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (8)

Hello,

I think we, users, can come together and translate the platform into other languages. It's available in English and German. I'm sure some of us can take some time to contribute to translate the application(s) into other languages. I'd like to know the procedure, to have the language file and to translate each entry. I can contribute with French, I'll take my time to translate it properly. Feel free to reply with the required information to get started.

Thank you, keep up the great work

Use epgshare01 by default, as an EPG source
Posted by: calande - 2025-03-24, 10:45 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (2)

Hello,

I think it would be a good addition if there were a free EPG source already set as default, such as epgshare01. Personally, I use this one:

Code:
https://epgshare01.online/epgshare01/epg_ripper_FR1.xml.gz

Full list of EPG for many countries can be found here: https://epgshare01.online/epgshare01/
Maybe there are even better sources of EPG out there, that can be used by default when installing NextPVR.

Thank you for your great project.

  Custom Labels
Posted by: Sozzledspam - 2025-03-24, 06:26 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (2)

Hi there,

Is it possible to add custom labels to manage and identify multiple IPTV accounts?

The IPTV links are too long to see which account is in which position.

  Help with Desktop Gadget
Posted by: Bobbybear - 2025-03-24, 09:59 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (3)

I have just rebuilt my PC with new hardware and a fresh install of Windows 11 Pro 24H2.
I want to use the old Desktop NPVR Gadget, it's really useful to quickly see what is recording and about to record.
I can't seem to get it to work it will not connect to the NPVR server.
When I click on the NPVR logo it tries to open a webpage   https://http//localhost:8867/index.html:8867/index.html   not   http://localhost:8867/index.html
So what am I doing wrong I have all the same settings as my old gadget and have coped the NPVR data files and the NextPVR program files from my old machine onto the new one after the program install.
Do I need to install Java? or am I really missing something, last time I messed with this was in 2021
Many thanks Bob

Error getting EPG data with NextPVR
Posted by: juliescamilla - 2025-03-24, 07:00 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Hello,
I'm not sure whether this is a NextPVR issue or a Schedules Direct issue (never had problems with either over years of use). However, every time I try to get EPG data from SD for the last couple of weeks (that's how long I've been banging my head against this) I get some permutation of the error (from NextPVR nrecord.log) below:

I tend to think this is a problem with the data coming from SD, but I really don't know. I'm starting on the SD side because I've uninstalled/reinstalled NextPVR with a fresh database. Everything looks fine on the SD side as well, to me, but I can see less into SD than I can into NextPVR.

Any help would be appreciated, even if it's confirmation I need to pursue the NextPVR side of things.

Building a Linux box for NextPVR advice please
Posted by: bgowland - 2025-03-23, 07:36 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (21)

Hi all,

It's been a long while since I was here and I feel like a newbie again - things have changed quite a bit.

I'd like to build a compact Linux box to sit under my TV. I'm looking at a Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD board with a terrestrial TV aerial for UK Freeview (DVB-T2). I've found a nice compact case which takes microATX mobos.

So questions are...

What sort of processor and RAM do I need for good performance?
What flavour of Linux? I've been running Debian on my main desktop for 15 years, any good? Or should I use Ubuntu or something else?
The case I've seen has space for a 2.5" SSD plus a 3.5" HDD - recommendations for an ultra quiet HDD?

Any advice much appreciated.

Cheers.

  Cant watch live TV
Posted by: Bobbybear - 2025-03-23, 10:27 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (3)

I have searched the forum for an answer to this question.
After running NPVR v5 very successfully on a 6 year old PC I now have a problem
I rebuilt my PC with some new hardware CPU, motherboard, RAM, NvMe SSD and a clean install of Widows 11 Pro 24H2
To save absolutely all the trouble of tuning and setting up all the channels etc. I copied the NPVR Data folder and NextPVR programs folder into my new setup.
Great everything worked just fine and although I can record programs on Sat and Terrestrial tuners I cant watch any live TV I get a red message 'Streaming Failed (exiting transcoder).
Does anyone know how I can fix this please?

On a quick side issue I have a failed tuner card which I have removed from the PC but it still shows in the devices fist even if I 'rescan for devices', how can I remove them?
