Twice in the last week (30 July & 2 Aug) my recording service has stopped. Nothing shows in the Windows event log for the stops, only the starts. For the 2 Aug event, my available/failed recordings show

Recording error: Recording service was stopped during recording
[Video file is present and is about the right length. The metadata xml file is missing.]
Failed: Tues, Aug 02, 2016 6:59PM - 7:30PM Cry Wolfe S3E3
Recording Error: Recording service was not running at recording time
[No video file exists.]
The last entry in the NRecord.log is at 18:59:02.458
The NPVR.log continues on until I restarted the computer at 21:07:56.502
I don't see anything suspicious in the logs, although it seems to be looking for art for "Untold Stories of the E.R." over and over.
I've turned off all the art related options (I only use NPVR for recording) and added some restart options to the property page of the NPVR Recording Service. I started a task running every 5 min to check for the recording service and warn me if it's gone - so far no failure.
I archive my logs tagged with the time of the last entry. They are uploaded
-During a tv recording playback, pressing the Stop button will cause npvr to freeze to a blank (black) screen.
-The hard drive activity light will remain on for about 30 seconds then go out.
-It will stay in this state indefinitely.
-Double tapping the keyboard or trying to close the app will generate the windows "close program or wait" dialog box. Selecting close will successfully close the program.
-Observe same behavior using the MCE remote button, or npvr screen software button.
Not always consistent behavior. About one in two times it will do this
-Confirmed recording playback is not playing a recording currently being recorded.
-Same behavior observed on windows 10 and a windows 7 machine.
Latest updates installed.
Using NPVR 3.5.7 Logs for both PCs attached
With my recent upgrade to Windows 10 I had to search for a WMC replacement so thank you for having this great option available. I'm currently trying to setup NextPVR to record all my favorite shows but I've run into a few issues I can't find information on.
Since it's Summer here there are no episodes in the EPG (SchedulesDirect) for most of my shows so I have no way of using that guide data to create the 'NEW season' recordings. I've attempted to use 'MAN-REC' with the advanced option of " title LIKE '%name'%' " as described on the Wiki but nothing ever shows up in the recurring menu.
For the shows that have repeats in the current EPG data I have been able to try and set the recordings for 'NEW seasons' but again nothing ever shows up in any of the Recording windows.
Does the 'Recurring Recordings' window only show data when there is a matching episode in the current EPG data? If so would it be possible for it show all shows that it's watching for or is there anyway to see that information anywhere else? Since there's nothing showing up in that window or the 'Pending Recordings' window I have no way of knowing if what I'm entering is even being saved.
I recently installed windows 10, Had many issues with it on my PC and decided for now I prefer windows 7. I reverted back to 7 and now get a black screen with no audio. I even tried to play a recorded show and nothing. While in windows 10 nextpvr did update to 3.7.7
Neat GUI tool to make Linux type Symlinks on Windows.
I like to keep my folders organized. Space is an issue. For example:
TV
.....Classic TV
.....Drama
.....Sitcoms
.....Etc
News
.....Local
.....National
.....etc
Sports
.....Football
.....FC Soccer
.....Baseball
.....etc
I have been making Windows mklinks (Linux users know them as Symlinks) by hand. Drama's are on one hard drive while Sitcoms are on another. Yet in my TV Library all are organized together. It even works on network shares.
I came across a stand alone MKLINKS gui on Github and it has made my life easier.
In closing, I have stacks of hard drives from salvaging computers. The shows I know I will delete often and not archive (like local news) I keep on a separate hard drive in case of hard drive failure. No lost sleep if they go die suddenly.
As of today, it works perfectly on Windows 10 (version 1511). Hopefully they don't take mklinks away in the Windows 10 major Anniversary upgrade starting August 2, 2016.
Hi all,
I have had several recordings end 1-2 hours early since updating to this latest version (3.7.7). I first noticed that 2 weeks in a row, the I got 1 hour of a 2-hour episode of American Ninja Warrior. I also had a PGA tournament end 2 hours early. I unchecked the "auto extend sports, if required" checkbox, and made sure I had plenty of padding at end.
Today my recording ended 2 hours early, and the recording listing shows the correct length, including padding. It ended after 3 hours 2 minutes.
I am running Windows 10, and have zipped and attached the log files.
I like the promise of what NextPVR seems to offer. Unfortunately, I am having issues getting it going. I can't get Live TV to connect. I keep getting the error "Unable to communicate with recording service."
The firewall appears to be setup correctly, nothing else seems to be running on the port, but yet the Recording Service seems to not be running. Restarting the service goes through without a visible error and it shows started, but it still doesn't work. The log file seems to indicate an error and the process isn't running? I've even tried running NRecord.exe manually and Live TV still won't connect.
Any ideas what I need to tweak? I first installed the program yesterday and cleared everything out and tried installing again today. I first got an error during the initial installation. Log files are attached along with netstat partial output and a screenshot of an installation error (shown during the initial install and the reinstall). The computer is running Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit).
After I upgraded to Windows 10 last week, I installed NextPVR. I see that a newer version has been released since I installed and configured the program. Do I have to uninstall the older version, or can I simply download the new version and install it successfully on top of the current version I have installed? If I do have to uninstall and reinstall the program, what is the proper way of cleanly uninstalling the older version? Thank you for your kind assistance in advance.
